Lipanská mohyla stands on the northern slope of Leipzig Mountain. It serves as a reminder of the brother-in-law battle at Lipan in 1434, during which the commander Prokop Holý fell. This important object was discovered in 1881. Today it is not only a historical symbol, but also a meeting place.

The formation of the mound is closely linked to the Hussite movement and its cultural heritage. The idea of construction was created on Leipzig Mountain during the camp on 29 May 1870, when the people tried to negotiate better conditions. This event inspired the establishment of the association Prokop, led by the great landowner Josef Škopek. The contract with the stonemason Karl Koutou was signed on 27 May 1881. A month later, on June 29th, there was a ceremonial laying of the base stone. The discovery of the monument followed on September 4, 1881, in front of the crowd about 20,000 people.

Architecturally, the mound is built from granite and sandstone bricks and reaches a height of 11 metres. The chalice was inserted into its structure as a symbol of Hussite, which resembles the Žižkov Mohla near Přyslav. The work of K. Corners with its appearance reflects the historical importance of the place.

Mohyla witnessed several key events. After World War I, there was a protest camp on 30 May 1918, during which the people expressed their hope of self-governance. In February 1939, 23 Czechoslovak generals swore allegiance, many of whom fell for their cause during the Nazi occupation.

Today Lipanská mohyla is the center of memorial events. The proximity of the Arboretum and variety of types of lip create a unique natural area around it. The site is worth visiting thanks to its historical value, its beautiful surroundings and the opportunity to explore the rich past of the Czech people.

Welcome! You are standing before one of the most important historical monuments of our region - the Lipan Mound. This monumental monument will strike you with its impressive character and the deep history associated with it.

Lipanská mohyla was built to commemorate the fratricidal battle of Lipan, which took place on 30 May 1434. This battle meant the death of the warlord Prokop Holý and brought a significant change in the Hussite movement. The monument in front of you was built on the northern slope of Leipzig Mountain in 1881 according to the design of architect Karel Koutka. Its structure consists of granite and sandstone bricks, which gives it strength and elegance.

Look up at this height of 11 meters and notice the chalice placed in the middle of the mound. This symbol is a direct reference to the Hussite movement, which was an essential element of Czech history. The architecture of the mound with its robust materials and distinctive chalice tells the story of courage and faith.

Let's move on to the key historical personalities associated with this room. Prokop Holý was the leader of the Hussites whose death at the Battle of Lipan meant the end of one era and the beginning of another. In addition, Josef Škopek and Emil Špatný are associated with this location, who have played a significant role in the history of this site.

The interesting thing is that Lipanská mohyla was not just a monument to the past. In 1918 there was a protest camp expressing self-government and in 1939 the Czechoslovak generals swore allegiance to the country. This mound is therefore witnessing not only historical but also important political events.

Now that you have learned of its origin and meaning, look for more details. Look at the facade of the mounds and feel the atmosphere of this place. Every part of this monument has a story.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring brings fresh air to the memory and the waking green nature. Light is soft and does not shine in this period, which creates a calm and hopeful mood. I recommend wearing layered clothes because morning temperatures can still be low. Due to the smaller number of people, the ideal time to visit the morning is when everything is the cleanest.

In the summer months, the surrounding area could be covered in thick leaves and the sun shines the strongest. The atmosphere is full of life, but high temperatures can be tiring. Don't forget the headgear and enough water to drink.

Autumn turns the surroundings into a colorful world of gold and red, which gives the memory a melancholy touch. Frequent fog creates mysterious scenery, but they can limit the view. It is necessary to wear a waterproof jacket and fixed shoes for walking in wet soil. The best is to visit a place in the afternoon when the low sun best highlights the colors of nature.

Winter brings silence and landscape often covering the snow cover. The day is short and light gray, which creates a sense of isolation. It is necessary to have very warm clothes and shoes with good grip for walking on snow or ice. The most appropriate is a visit on bright days when the sun can reflect light from snow.
