Loupežný hrádek Other

Robbery, also known as Loupežný hrádek or Raubschloss in German, is a extinct building in the Erzgebirge Mountains, which lies on the hillside of the Loupežník in the southeast tip of the cadastral area of Cínovec, northeast of Dubí in the district of Teplice. Although it bears the name of the castles, its true function was quite different. It probably served as a supporting point for the protection of miners or for the storage of tin, which was intensively extracted in the surroundings in the second half of the 14th and early 15th century. The location is protected as a cultural monument.

There were no written sources of the construction itself. Historians rely only on archaeological findings and terrain remains. In the nineteenth century the places were known under the German name Raubschlosswall. It was systematically addressed by science only later: the first archaeological research was carried out in 1904 by R. R. von Weinzierl, the second in 1976 by František Gabriel. Their findings bring an interesting picture: probably no walled-up construction of the type of fortifications arose, but the findings of the tiles fragments prove the existence of a heated building.

The remains of the building reveal a simple but efficient construction. The site had an oval plan with dimensions approximately 28 times 22 meters. The area was delimited by a trench, before which it survived four metres wide and one metre high wall. In the middle there was probably a wooden above-ground building heated by tiled stove. Archaeologists found fragments of these tiles in the area, as well as arrows, casting form for tin bars, mining kahans and wedges. These findings show a truly productive activity: the protection and administration of mining or the storage of extracted metal.

Today the site is freely accessible, but lies outside the marked tourist routes. There is no marked path to the top of the Robber or to the remains of the castle. However, given the location in the Erzgebirge mountains, reaching is not impossible. East under the castle, traces of a large mining field are spread in the slope. Local communication leading from Pod Lysá mountain to the slopes of the Krusné Mountains to Títkov passes through here. The blue marked tourist route connecting the former front Cínovec to Krupka overloads this communication near the remains of the mine field. For a curious traveler, this place represents an opportunity to visit a hidden corner of Czech industrial history, which resembles the time of medieval prosperity of these mountains.
