The railway station Martinice v Krkonoších is a technical monument from 1871. It serves as a node point of the line from Chlumce nad Cidlinou to Trutnova and to Rokytina nad Jizerou. The object is remarkable by a unique set of preserved buildings, technical facilities and fully functional technologies from the period of history.

The station was opened in 1871 under the original name Jilemnice. Later another station was built in the town of Jilemnice, so on May 1, 1907 it was renamed Jilemnice. The definitive name Martinice v Krkonoších was obtained on June 1, 1921. The creation of the building fits into the period of massive unrolling of the railway network in Bohemia. This network was crucial for the industrial development of regions in the second half of the 19th century.

From the point of view of technical equipment, the station is a valuable example of the safety of the train path. There is a system of electromechanical signalling equipment with mechanical signals. It remained in the original operational assembly and is still fully operational. The assembly of buildings and equipment also includes elements necessary for the operation of steam locomotives, namely water cranes for water replenishment and an ash pit intended for the maintenance of boilers and boilers.

Thanks to the preservation of period form and technical background, the station serves as a set for making historical films. The Winton Train event photographed steam locomotives 498.022 Albatros and 486.007 Green Anton.

Since 3 December 2015 the railway station has been registered as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Its value lies in a combination of functional technology and architecture from the boom of steam transport. Visiting this place offers a direct insight into the history of railway traffic in its original form.

Welcome to the village Martinice v Krkonoších. You are standing right in front of a place that is a real treasure for anyone who loves technology, history and the atmosphere of the old ways. There is a railway station in front of you, which at first sight can act as an ordinary stop, but in fact it is a unique technical monument that has survived for more than a century. Feel her calm and at the same time the strange feeling that time has stopped here. It's a place where a practical purpose meets the beauty of an old craft. Now let's go deep back in time, to the year one thousand eight hundred seventy one. It was this year that this station was operational. Imagine what a coup must have been for the locals when the first locomotive entered their country. At the time, it was modern transport that brought together people and goods. The station was intended from the beginning as an important node point. Its main task was to connect the paths from Chlumce to Cidlina to Trutnova and to Rokytina to Jizerou. It was a strategic crossroads that allowed the entire region to develop. Now, when you look around, pay attention to the entire building. Although we do not know the specific names of the architects who designed these structures, it is clear that they went their way in the spirit of the times of history. Note how harmonically the individual parts of the station area fit together. I suggest you now slowly go through the space around the buildings and perceive their appearance. It is not just the masonry itself, but the whole complex that has been preserved in a form that brings us back to the alien century. An interesting story related to this place is a change in his identity, which we can see in the name of the station itself. It's a fascinating example of how the perception of this place changed in space. Originally, in the year one thousand eight hundred seventy one, the station was simply called Jilemnice. A few decades later, in the year one thousand nine hundred and seven, there was a first change and the station was called Jilemnie- Martinique. It is likely that the location of the stop wanted to be more precise. Only in the year one thousand nine hundred twenty one was the word Jilemnice completely omitted and since then we have been reading Martinice v Krkonoších. It's a small detail, but it shows us how the railway administration has evolved over time and how the identity of this community has been strengthened. Now we come to what is really the rarest in this place and what you should not miss. Look at the security system. What you see here is not just a museum exhibit, but a fully functional technology. It is a set of mechanical signals and electromechanical security. Today, digital systems and computer management are absolutely unbelievable that a mechanical-based system still works here. All these elements are fully functional, which makes this station unique throughout our state. Imagine all the levers, wires, and gears that have to work exactly to keep the trains running safely. It's basically a giant, precision-designed machine that still performs its task. It was this extraordinary fact that in the year two thousand fifteen the station was officially registered as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. This is not only a formal recognition, but a commitment that this technical beauty will be preserved for generations to come. It is a recognition of the fact that Martinice v Krkonoších keeps a piece of technical history that has long since disappeared elsewhere or been replaced by modern but less mental solutions. Now, if you're going to continue the tour, let's think about how many thousands of people have passed through here, how many tickets have been ripped out, and how many goodbyes and reunions have taken place here. Every element you see here tells its own story about the people who worked here and the passengers who were looking for a way to or from the mountains to the valley. I suggest you now walk quietly around the entire area and try to imagine what the station looked like at the time of its flowering, when the smoke from the locomotives was a normal part of the landscape. Feel the silence that is now interrupted only by the occasional sound of the tracks, and think about the role that this fascinating mechanics is playing in all of this. I hope you enjoyed this short trip to history and that it fascinates you as much as it fascinates us. Martinice v Krkonoších is proof that even in technical objects you can find deep beauty and value if you look at them with attention. You are now being left to explore this unique place. We wish you a pleasant rest of the day and beautiful experiences in our beautiful Giant Mountains. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is late spring or autumn when the landscape around this technical building looks best and is pleasant weather for walks. Transport to the village is possible by car or public connections, check the specific path in maps.

To visit we recommend to wear comfortable shoes suitable for field and camera. Since this is a railway junction point, the views of the construction itself and the surrounding tracks are interesting.

For the best photos we recommend to come in the morning or late afternoon light, which will highlight the details of historical architecture from 1871. The most interesting angles are from around the building, where you can see the connection of different lines.

Seasonal recommendations

In spring, the surroundings of the buildings awaken to life, and the landscape around them gets a rich green color. The air is fresh and light is fine, which is ideal for observing architecture from the outside. We recommend shoes suitable for humid terrain and visit in the morning when nature is most lively.

Summer brings bright sun and high temperatures, making the facade details very visible. In the high season there are more people around, therefore it is best to leave early in the morning or at dusk to make it more pleasant. Remember light clothes and sun protection.

In autumn, the surrounding trees are dyed into gold and red tones, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. Light is soft and golden in this period, making SLC tickets a beautiful destination for walks. Suitable are layered clothes and solid shoes for colder days.

In winter the monument can be covered with snow, which gives it a calm and dreamy look. The atmosphere is quiet and clean, typical of mountain areas. It is necessary to wear warm winter clothes, waterproof shoes and plan the journey in daylight because darkness comes very soon.
