Nový zámek Batelov Chateau
Nový zámek Batelov stands in the city Batelov in the immediate vicinity of the Old Chateau and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Here we are located in places with deep historical roots, whose foundations reach into the Middle Ages.
The beginnings of the Batelova settlement were tied to the old fortress of the masters of Batelova, which stood on the high above the creek, southwest of today's church. Around 1400, a new fortress was built at the left bank of the Jihlava River, which was probably intended to guard the transition through this water flow. Due to the proximity of the two buildings, it is now not quite clear where the original fort stood, although it is assumed that it was rebuilt in the Old Chateau. The fortress gradually changed its owners - owned by the people of Lipé, then Pacovský, Batelov from Plato and Mikuláš Radkovec z Mirovic. From the mid-16th century to the beginning of the 17th century, the manor belonged to the Chekov Manor of Chekov.
The fundamental twist occurred in 1586, when Jiří Čížovský z Čížova chemiл fortress was rebuilt into Renaissance chateau - today's Old Chateau. There was a new building next to it, which was so innovative for the time that the estate was given a new name - New Batelov. After 1626, when the Krabics of Weitmile took the estate, the buildings gradually went through further reconstructions. Around 1681, under Odkolky from Újezce, the chateau receives Baroque form with the creation of a new, longer wing. A number of years later, in 1731, he buys the manor Jan Kryštof Burkhardt de Klee, which after 1755 will start building a large church and in the same year he will reconstruct and expand the chateau in a classical style - the resemblance has been preserved to its essence. In 1806, the chateau was sold at auction to Count Jan Swéerts- Sporck, under which it undergoes minor building modifications. Since 1839 it was owned by Blankensteinové, under which the chateau was remodernised in 1893. The latest modifications are from the second half of the 20th century, when insensitive reconstruction occurred. In the 1980s, a vocational training centre was established in the chateau.
The building is a two-storey two-wing building around which the remains of the chateau park created in the 19th century were preserved. From the Renaissance era, a ground-floor arched hall with a Renaissance portal was preserved, the coats of arms of Jiří Čežovský from Čežov with the year 1586 and Wilhelm Oldřich Odkolka from Úříce are placed at the entrance. On the ground floor are visible rolled vaults. The original fort was supposed to be at the site of today's west wing.
The chateau is only accessible from the outside - it is not open to the public for tours. There is a road II / 134 around the building, which is not far from road II / 639. The area can be reached on a green marked tourist path from the Batelov Square of Peace to the Tesenov or the Greenway Crafts Cycling and Confessions leading from Bezdečín to Lovetín.

The New Castle in Batelov in the Vysočina region stands right next to the Old Castle. Both buildings are so close to each other that today it is not entirely clear on the site of which one a medieval fortified tower once stood. It is protected as a cultural monument.
Both castles were preceded by a fortified tower belonging to the lords of Batelov. It stood on a rise above a stream, southwest of the present-day church. Another fortified tower was built around the year 1400 on the left bank of the Jihlava river and probably served to guard the crossing over the river. It is assumed that this was the one that was later rebuilt into the Old Castle.
The fortified tower changed hands many times over the centuries. It belonged to the lords of Lipá, from whom the Pacovskis acquired it in the middle of the 14th century. At the end of the Hussite Wars, it passed to the Batelovs of Prostné and then to Mikuláš Radkovce of Mirovic. From 1546 to 1626, the Batelov territory was held by the Čížovskis of Čížov.
In 1586, Jiří Čížovský of Čížov had the fortified tower rebuilt as a Renaissance castle, today's Old Castle. A new building was erected opposite it. The seat then received the name New Batelov to distinguish it from the older tower. From 1626, the estate belonged to the Krabices of Weitmile. Around 1681, under the Odkolks of Újezdce, the castle underwent Baroque modifications and a new, longer wing was added.
In 1731, Jan Kryštof Burkhardt de Klee purchased the estate. He rebuilt and expanded the castle in the Classical style in 1755 and began building a large church in Batelov. In 1806, the castle was sold at auction due to debts to Count Jan Swéerts-Sporck. From 1839, it was owned by the Blankensteinov family, under whom it was renovated again in 1893. In the second half of the 20th century, it was insensitively rebuilt and in the 1980s, it housed a vocational school.
Today's castle is a two-storey building with two wings. The original fortified tower probably stood in the place of the western wing. From the Renaissance building, a vaulted hall has been preserved on the ground floor with a Renaissance portal. On the ground floor there are also barrel-vaulted ceilings. At the entrance are embedded coats of arms of Jiří Čížovský of Čížov with the date 1586 and Vilém Oldřich Odkolka of Újezdce. Around the castle, remains of a park from the 19th century have been preserved.

The best time to visit is during late spring or early autumn, when the surrounding area of the chateau and adjacent pond is the most photogenic. Since it is a historical object in a satisfactory condition, we recommend planning a trip in daylight, which best stands out on the classical facade.
If you prefer public transport, use the search engine for the connection to the village; for cyclists, the chateau is easily accessible thanks to the Greenway trade and religion route.
When visiting, remember to wear comfortable shoes suitable for movement around the chateau yard and pond. If you plan to photograph, the best lighting conditions for capturing a two-story building are in the morning when the sun lights up the main facade.
In the immediate vicinity of the chateau you can visit The old chateau with the farm yard, see the chateau pond or local church. These places form a comprehensive historical whole, which is ideal for a short walk in a quiet Highlands environment.
The location is suitable for families with children due to the undemanding terrain around the pond and the historic atmosphere, which can be an interesting specialization of the trip.
