The new chateau is located near the old chateau and fortress in the центре city Golčův Jeníkov as the youngest part of the chateau complex. It is a property protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

The chateau was built in 1768-1769 in the spirit of the late Baroque. His builder was Count Filip Krakovský z Kolovrat, owner of the estate here. At the beginning of its existence, however, the building had not long known a single function. Already in the next two years, namely 1774- 1775, it underwent extensive reconstruction. Its aim was to adapt the premises to the needs of the tobacco factory. Filip Krakovský himself or his son Leopold Krakovský z Kolovrat, who took over the estate after Philip's death in 1773, is considered founder of the company. After Leopold's departure, a succession dispute broke out between family members, and the estate was governed by the state administration during this period. When the factory later moved to Sedlce, the chateau changed its function again - it served as a military hospital.

In 1817 the complex was purchased by Countess Louisa Herbersteinová z Kolovrat, who was Leopold's daughter. Decades later, in 1827-1828, the owner of Count Otta z Herbersteinu made an ambitious reconstruction of the entire building. He chose for her the language of the Empire, which at that time represented a modern and prestigious choice. Otto was still a minor at the time, which is why his guardian Hugo von Eger took care of the chateau. At this very moment, the picturesque chateau parterre, which still characterises the area, was allegedly founded. The chateau then served as the administrative center of the estate.

However, ownership rights continued to change. In 1830 the new owner became Countess Terezie z Trautmannsdorfu. In the first half of the 20th century, the Milner family had a complex. A fundamental turning point has brought about a change in the political regime - in 1951 the chateau was transferred as a result of the communist takeover of power into the ownership of the local national committee.

Modern times brought with them a new rescue attempt. In 2011, Josef Merhout purchased the property. Unfortunately, he didn't take care of the chateau with the required care, which put the building into serious property. Due to insufficient maintenance and financial difficulties, the subject ended in a judicial execution. Since 2020, even with the adjacent park, the chateau has been offered for sale, waiting for a new owner to return it to its original glory. The complex is now getting the attention of those who believe in saving this valuable example of the development of Czech noble architecture from Baroque to Empire to modern times.

Welcome to the heart of Vysočina Region, in the historical center of Golčův Jeníkov. Right now, when you put your headphones on and you stopped in front of this building, you're in a place where you meet various epoch and unusual life fates. You're standing right in front of New Chateau. If you look around now, you can also see other historical monuments, such as the old chateau or the fortress that forms nearby. Please feel the strange atmosphere that exists here. This chateau is not just another building object in the urban landscape; It is the youngest part of the entire local chateau complex, which by its presence complements the older parts of this local venue. Before your eyes, there is a building that carries traces of many different periods, and its appearance is the result of a long and fascinating history that goes back to the eighteenth century.

Now let's go back to the past together to understand how this chateau came into being and why it stands here. The whole story of this place in this form began in 1768 and 1769. At that time, Count Filip Krakovský z Kolovrat decided to build a new residence here. The aim was to create a representative space that would fit the needs of the then nobles. The chateau was built in the spirit of the late Baroque. This era, which in architecture brought certain curves and richness, laid the cornerstones of this building. However, as history often shows, the life of locks rarely takes place in complete peace and without change. Soon after its creation, namely in 1774 and 1775, the building had to undergo a large reconstruction. But it was not a deliberate aesthetic interest, but a practical necessity. The chateau had to begin to serve a completely different purpose than as a noble residence - it became a home for a tobacco factory. Imagine the huge contrast between the original intention to create luxury housing and the reality of industrial operations, which began here shortly after completion.

Now pay attention to what you're seeing right now when you're looking at the actual body of the building and its facade. Although at first sight it may seem that the chateau has a uniform face, its architecture is actually a complex story of transformation. As I mentioned, the original Baroque sketch has been significantly modified over the years. We have to look at 1827, which is another crucial date in the chronology of this place. This year there was a major reconstruction initiated by Count Otto of Herberstein. It's because of him that the lock has turned into an empir-style. If you look at the overall structure of the object now, you can see in its lines the effort for a more rigorous, more calm and more stringent aesthetic that is typical of this style. This reconstruction in the spirit of the Empire has changed the character of the building and given it the look that you are currently seeing. It is fascinating to see the elements of the late Baroque and subsequent Empire intertwine in one building, creating a unique architectural dialogue between these two ages.

However, in order to fully understand the importance of this place, we need to think about the people who left their mark. The history of this chateau is closely linked to several important personalities. We can name Filip Krakovsky from Kolovrat, who was the founder of this new mansion, or Leopold Krakovsky from Kolovrat. Louisa Herbersteinová z Kolovrat and, of course, Count Otto of Herberstein, whose vision was the fundamental reconstruction of the Empire style, also entered the history of the site. Let us not forget the name Terezie z Trautmannsdorfu, which was part of this noble world. Each of these names represents a chapter in the life of the chateau, each of which brought to this place other energy and other needs. These people weren't just owners, they were creators of the environment you're exploring today.

You may now be interested in one very unusual thing that may seem almost mysterious. It's the incredible ability of this chateau to adapt to any period of challenge. This building was not just a beautiful residence for noble families. His fate was much more dynamic and often far less spectacular than it might seem. The chateau has passed through a path that includes everything from the luxury nobility to the working environment of the tobacco factory to a completely different purpose - it also served as a hospital hospital hospital. Imagine the changes: the place where the nobility took place became the place where the workers worked in tobacco processing, and then the place where people were treated at the time of illness. This constant transformation of functions, from representation to industry to helping people in need, is one of the biggest attractions this chateau has to offer. Even in modern history, we can watch another major turning point - in 1951 the chateau became the property of the local national committee, which meant another chapter of his public service.

Now that you've got a basic idea of what's in front of your eyes, I want to invite you to further explore. The new chateau in Golčov Jeníkov is a living witness to the changing time and its history is still unfolding in every detail of its walls. I hope that this short introduction helped you to better perceive the beauty and importance of this cultural monument of the Czech Republic. I wish you a pleasant walk around and other interesting discoveries in the heart of this beautiful city. Goodbye.

For kids

Hi! Here's the New Chateau - and the name "new" is a little misleading because he's over 350 years old! But at that time he was really "new" because he was standing in a place where there was no lock before. Who built it? A nobleman named Slavata. One of them was called William Slavata and he had a very dramatic moment: he was thrown out the window of Prague Chateau! This happened in 1618 and triggered a great war. But William survived and then he was a very powerful nobleman. Try counting the windows on the chateau front.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring: In spring, the surrounding area of the chateau is painted in fresh green and the blooming vegetation creates pleasant sets. Light is soft in this period and ideal for shooting details of architecture. I recommend visiting the morning hours when the air is the cleanest. Due to the changing weather and the uneven terrain, prepare for layered clothing to protect you from morning cold.

Summer: The summer months bring the most sun clock and dense, rich green landscape. The atmosphere is alive, but due to high temperatures, movement around the monument can be difficult. It is best to arrive at the beginning of the operation to avoid the largest groups of visitors and use the colder part of the day. Don't forget enough drinking water and a protective headgear.

Autumn: Autumn season is characterized by golden shades of leaves and occasional morning fog, which gives the chateau a melancholy touch. It's the quietest time to observe history in silence. Due to the poor state of the building and the increased humidity, I recommend that you wear solid, waterproof shoes to protect you from mud. Also, prepare a quality waterproof jacket.

Winter: In winter, the chateau operates in rough beauty and silence, especially if snow or frost cover the surroundings. The day is very short, so check in advance the current opening hours, which are usually limited during this period. It is necessary to dress thoroughly in heat clothing and to take care of slippery surfaces that may be risky around the sight.
