Okresní soud v Kladně is located in the historical historical building of the former regional brotherly treasury in Edvard Beneš Square. This three-story three-story three-story building was created between 1923 and 1924 and represents an example of decorative architecture with a distinctive central risalite and thematic stucco decoration. During its history, the building served not only for its original purpose but also as a German office during the occupation, later as a seat of the secretariat of the District Committee of the Communist Party and since 1987 as a court.

This house grew in the first republic when the development of urban infrastructure and administrative buildings took place. The construction of the regional brotherly treasury began in 1923 and was completed in the following year.

The architectural solution was designed by Alois Dryák. The construction took place between 1923 and 1924 in the style of decorativism. It is a three-wing two-story building with a valb roof and a characteristic central risalite. The main facade is decorated with thematic stucco decoration. At present, this building is protected as a cultural monument.

During its existence, the building has undergone a number of changes in use. In the years of the occupation, it served as the seat of a German office called oberlandrat. After 1960, the secretariat of the Communist Party District Committee was in office here. The District Court took over his premises in 1987. The main building of the court is located in Edvard Beneš Square. The secondary building intended for matters of inheritance, execution, custody and payment orders are placed there. The Regional Court in Prague is the appeal body for this instance. The Kladno Court shall act as the first chair in all criminal and civil matters, with the exception of the specialised agenda entrusted to the Regional Court, which includes the most serious crimes, insolvency proceedings, disputes concerning commercial corporations, competition or intellectual property.

The District Court District Court in Kladno does not include only Kladno itself, but covers a total of ninety-four surrounding municipalities, such as Bustlouhrad, Salty, Lidice, Velvary or Zlonice.

A tour of Edvard Beneš Square and the historical centre of Kladna offers an introduction to this architectural valuable monument of decorativism. The visit draws closer not only to the construction of interwar administrative architecture, but also to the agitated history of the twentieth century associated with the fate of this building.

Welcome to the town square of Edvard Benes. Right now, you are facing an impressive and historically valuable building, which today serves as a district court, but whose roots go deep into the past, full of twists and transformations. Give this first impression a moment. In front of you, a monumental two-storey building, spread out into three wings, immediately captures your attention with its solid structure and order. Feel the atmosphere of power, justice, but also the building elegance that this building radiates in the square. Let's dive together into the story of this place, which has gone through many different roles before it became what it is today.

The creation of this remarkable building dates back to nineteen hundred twenty-three to nineteen hundred twenty-four. It was not originally built for judicial purposes. It was built as a so-called regional brotherly treasury. What did it mean at the time? It was an institution associated with the mining environment, with the care of people who worked hard underground, with their social security and mutual assistance in difficult life situations. Kladno was a city of coal, labor and workers, and this building was meant to symbolize strength and security for those who formed the economic basis of the entire region. It was built with great ambitions in the young Czechoslovakia, at a time when the new face of the modern state was sought.

Now let's take a closer look at the architecture that is so special about this house. The author of this magnificent design was no less than the famous architect Alois Dryák. This master of his profession designed an object in the style of decorativism. If you look directly at the facade, your attention will certainly not escape the characteristic central risalite, the exiting part of the facade, which gives the whole building dignity and strength. On this central section, notice the rich stucco decoration. The stucco elements and thematic decoration reflect the time of their creation and carry the manuscript of the top art craft. The whole two-storey building is very balanced and harmonious thanks to its three-wing plan, each part of the building fulfilling its aesthetic and utility tasks.

Let's move forward in time and look at the other chapters this building has been through. History is not always gentle with us, and houses often change their fate, along with how political conditions change in the country. The year nineteen hundred and sixty brought radical change into the life of this building. The original social and financial mission took hold and the house became the seat of the District Committee Secretariat of the Communist Party. Imagine the transformation. The place that was supposed to serve the brotherly treasury and help the people came to the very epicenter of the political power of the then regime. There were decisions about the fate of the whole region, directives were written, meetings were held and the building served ideology, which affected the lives of many generations.

This condition lasted for decades, until nineteen hundred and eighty-seven. There was another crucial moment in the chronology of this monument. The building was taken over by the Okresní soud v Kladně and thus returned to it a completely new but dignified social importance. The power of justice and the law has become the power of the political party. The court still resides here today, and the building thus rightly fulfils the role of a place where human disputes are decided and where state authority resides. Currently, this building is well-deserved to be protected as a cultural monument, which underlines its unique architectural and historical importance for the whole city.

When you look at the rich stucco decoration on the central risality, remember how many different human destinies have passed through this building in the last hundred years. From the mining register to the Communist secretaries to the judges and defendants. It is fascinating how one building can absorb so many different historical images while retaining its architectural face, which was printed by Alois Dryák.

I believe the view of this building has enriched you with new knowledge. Edvard Beneš Square offers other interesting places, so I invite you to explore the streets and their secrets. Thank you for your attention, I bid you farewell and wish you a beautiful rest of the day to discover other monuments.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring brings to the building of the Kladen District Court the awakening greenery in the surrounding streets and the rays of the sun that pleasantly irradiate the machine's interwar architecture. The atmosphere is at work here during this period, as the working week runs in normal rhythm and the office hours attract to deal with matters without the summer rush. For a visit, choose fixed shoes, because sidewalks can be wet after spring rains, and a light coat. The best time for admiring exteriors and photography is around 10:00 in the morning, when the sun is ideally facing the main facade and the crowds of people are not yet as numerous.

During the summer, the surroundings of the office are wrapped in thick leaves of grown trees that provide a welcome shade before the afternoon heat, while the light is sharp and bright for most of the day. The atmosphere is more sleepy because of the holiday season, which means fewer people in waiting rooms and quieter streets. The practical board commands you to take a bottle of drinking, sunglasses and air clothes with you, because indoor spaces without modern air conditioning can be hot. The best time for arrival is early in the morning after opening the offices, avoiding the biggest daily temperatures and possible morning waiting at the counter.

Autumn turns city parks around into a colourful spectacle with falling leaves, which gives the building a melancholy character, underlined by often cloudy sky and morning fog. The atmosphere is increasingly busy with the onset of the autumn working pace of citizens and institutions. During this period the necessary equipment becomes a waterproof coat, a warm scarf and an umbrella, as the weather is very variable and windy. The best time for a peaceful visit without unnecessary delay is on Tuesday or Thursday in the afternoon, when traffic in the building is smoother and there is already half-shadow outside.

Winter covers the Kladno into a snow blanket if it attacks snow, and early dimming creates a mysterious atmosphere behind the office windows, which is drawn by artificial street lighting reflected on icy pavement. The atmosphere is quiet, sometimes interrupted by snow removal and the rush of people running from freezing to warm homes. For an outdoor walk around this judicial building you absolutely need a winter coat, hat, gloves and non-slip shoes due to the frozen terrain. The most suitable time for handling the necessities is around noon, when the outside is warmer and daylight allows safe movement around the surrounding urban area.
