The Boskovice Men's Court is a monument-protected four-wing complex of originally economic buildings from the second half of the 17th century. Over the centuries it has undergone significant structural changes and is now used for commercial and cultural purposes after partial revitalization. This object represents an important example of the historical background of noble great estates.

Originally Baroque four-wing ground floor yard was built in the second half of the 17th century for economic purposes by the owners Boskovice, Ditrichštejnové. The creation dates back to the period when Czech countries recovered after the 30-year war. There was an intensive baroque construction activity in the nobility, during which nobles built not only representative mansions, but also extensive facilities for the management of large estates.

The construction is characterized by a number of specific architectural elements. There are two entrances to the area on the east and west side. The original Baroque form was modified after the fire in 1823, when the saddle roof was broken towards the yard by the Empire skylights. The central area has glazed and partially decorated arcades. There is a stone coat of arms in the western front. The interiors of the building are encapsulated with vaulted vaults, mostly with triangular sections.

During its existence, the object alternated between different owners and users. The main owners were the Ditrichstein family from the 17th to the 19th century. Since 1955, the building has served Boskovice's single agricultural cooperative, later belonged to the city of Boskovice and is currently in the private hands of Pražská 5.

The history of the court is linked to several important events. In 1823, the site was damaged by a fire and subsequently rebuilt, which appeared on the facades and in the inner courtyard. The year 1833 was set up in front of the postal collection centre, which since 1 May 1836 collected mail daily. In the 1970s, the construction narrowly escaped demolition. In 1983, the Object was set up by Otakara Kubín Memorial. His permanent exhibition in 1995 was cancelled and replaced by the Otakara Kubín Gallery in the town hall, with the right wing used for exhibitions and city library.

Currently in 2026, the building is in the private hands of Pražská 5, which works on its revitalization and plans to use it for commercial purposes. In one of the reconstructed parts is located cafe Space. The Boskovice Court represents a valuable example of historical construction, which has successfully found new applications in modern times. Visit this remarkable place and explore the transformations of Boskovice history with your own eyes.

Welcome to Boskovice. Right now, you are standing right in front of the Pansy Court, a large and monument-protected building complex that extends from your eyes into the shape of four wings. Take some time, take a breath and let yourself breathe the atmosphere of this place, which has been remembered for centuries by human destinies, labor and transformations. When you look around you, you see a vast historical site that was originally built for economic purposes. Let's go back in time together and look at the story of this remarkable corner of our city.

The creation of this court is linked to the second half of the seventeenth century. The then owners of Boskovice, the noble Ditrichstein family, built this originally baroque four-wing ground floor yard to serve the needs of the local economy. Ditrichštejnové was one of the great personalities of their time and their influence on the form and development of the entire estate was huge. The whole complex of buildings was designed to serve its purpose effectively, and therefore we will find a generously conceived arrangement in four wings that close the inner court.

Now pay attention to the architecture itself before you. Look closely at the facades and shapes of buildings. In the west front of the building you can see the stone coat of arms of Ditrichstein, which is a silent witness to the ancient times and power of the original builders. When you enter or look into the interior, notice that the interiors are encapsulated by the vaults. These vaults provide an incredible strength and stability for the entire space, which could not be disrupted by years to come, nor by stormy historical events. But the shape of the buildings, as you see today, is not entirely from the seventeenth century. Over the centuries, the campus had to face various tests. The biggest one was a big fire that broke out in 18,000. This unfortunate fire damaged the entire complex and required extensive reconstruction, which significantly affected both the exterior facades and the inner courtyard. The building thus bears traces of baroque beginnings, but also later building modifications, which gave it a new face.

But the story of the Pansky Court is also extremely rich in events from much more recent times. When we look at the chronology of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, we find that this complex gradually changed its functions according to the way the company needed it. In the year eighteen hundred thirty-third, ten years after the Great Fire, a postal collection was set up in front of the building. People used to come here to send letters and handle their affairs, making the economic court an important place to meet and communicate. Decades later, in nineteen hundred and fifty-five, the building began to serve Boskovice's single agricultural cooperative. The economic spirit of the place was thus restored for a time in the modern spirit of the twentieth century. Later, in nineteen hundred eighty-three, another significant change took place in the building, when Otakara Kubín Memorial was established here. The famous painter Otakar Kubín is another key person associated with this place whose artistic legacy has added a new cultural dimension to the old walls.

So, in summing up the changes in this place, over the centuries, the Manor Court has really served various purposes. From the original government economic background to the postal collection, the agricultural cooperative to the cultural and social spaces and the monument of the artist. It is fascinating to see how one building could absorb so many different human activities while retaining its historical charm.

The interesting thing to mention is the constant ability to transform and adapt to new times without losing its identity instead. The stone coat of arms of the Ditrichstein on the western front is firmly linked to the beginnings and reminds us of the founder, while the rolled vaults in the interior have kept arched ceilings above the visitors' heads for hundreds of years.

I strongly believe you like the Lord's Court tour. Now I invite you to explore this area again, take a walk around, see the historical atmosphere of Boskovice and discover more pieces of our rich past. Thank you for your attention and goodbye.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring brings awakening nature around the Pansky Court in Boskovice, when the surrounding trees begin to green, and the sun's rays pleasantly warm up the ancient walls that are undergoing construction renewal. Lighting is bright and fresh, ideal for observing outdoor details of historical architecture. For a spring visit, choose fixed shoes for muddy terrain and waterproof jacket because spring weather is usually variable and morning fog can hold on for a long time. The right time for arrival is in the morning when the outdoor area is quiet and the air is the cleanest.

Summer offers long days of warm sun, which penetrates deep into the outdoor areas of this historical area in Boskovice and creates strong shadows on decaying plaster and scaffolding. The surrounding green is in full bloom and provides shady places in the immediate surroundings. In this warm season, light breathable clothes, headgear against the sun and plenty of drinking water are recommended, as the shade of construction work can be limited. The best time for a tour of the exteriors is late afternoon, when the sun is weakening and the temperature is dropping.

Autumn covers the Boskovice Mansion into colorful leaves, which covers the surrounding area and adds melancholic features to the ongoing building modifications. Light is muffled, often accompanied by low sun and occasional rain, creating a specific atmosphere for the discovery of exteriors. The autumn walk includes warm laminated clothing, wind-resistant coat and waterproof shoes due to wet fallen leaves. The best hours for visiting are around noon, when there is the best chance of warm rays between the clouds.

Winter turns Boskovice into a quiet landscape, where the snow cover covers the roofs of the Pansky Court and reduces the excitement around construction works. The lighting is sharp but very short, while the low sun creates long shadows on snow and amplifies the cold beauty of old buildings. For winter movement outside it is necessary to have quality winter clothes, warm gloves, hat and fixed shoes with anti-slip sole in case of frozen roads. The ideal time for a winter walk is early in the afternoon when there is maximum daylight and temperatures reach their daily maximum.
