Pavilon Františkova pramene is an empire building from 1832, designed by Josef Esch. Located on Peace Square in the heart of Františkova Lazne and hides the oldest used spring in the city. This object is one of the main symbols of the spa city and serves for traditional drinking treatment.

František's spring, the oldest known in Františkova Lazne, has been known since the Middle Ages. The water carriers carried the acidity here as a table drink to Cheb. According to the municipality of Slatina the spring was called Slatinna or Cheb acid. Around 1600 he had the reputation of the healthiest in Europe and exported in ceramic bottles to large cities. For a long time he remained exposed because it was believed that the sun was removing the bad smell and moisture from him. At the time of the pavilion (1832), there was a period of romanticism and early industrialism, which affected the development of spa centres in Bohemia.

The construction has a circular plan with a low dome. The architectural solution includes twelve caneled Doric columns that support the architecture and high friezes with a ledge. On it lies the dome roof. In the interior there is a circular well of the spring, the whole space is covered with dome.

The history of the source protection includes several phases. In 1789 Count Kolowrat built a wooden pavilion with a grate and water led to the eating tank. In 1791, however, the pavilion was cut and demolished, considering it a violation of their rights. The second wooden pavilion, octogonal structure with dome designed by engineer Rothhesel and Gruber in 1793 when establishing the spa; stood until 1832, when it was replaced by the contemporary walled classical jacket of Josef Esche.

The latest reconstruction was carried out in 2024 when the building was renovated. The spring is still for drinking treatment of visitors.

Pavilon Františkova pramene represents an important example of spa architecture and reminds of the beginnings of the organized spa in Františkova Lazne. Visiting this place offers a view of the historical heart of the city and the opportunity to try the oldest spring here.

Welcome to this beautiful place in the heart of Františkova Spa. You are standing in front of Pavilon Františkov's spring, one of the most famous symbols of the spa area. This Empire object with classical elements enchant you with its elegance and historical significance.

The pavilion was built according to the Josef Esche project in 1832, which is when Františkovy Lázně developed as a spa centre. Josef Esch, the architect of this beautiful building, wanted to create a place that not only served practical needs, but also increased the aesthetic impression of the city.

Look up and you'll see a circular floor plan of the pavilion. Its facade is decorated with Doric columns, which carry an archive and a ledge above the high surface. These elements add nobility and harmony to the building. The interior of the pavilion is equally engaging; You are located in front of a circular spring that was the center of a traditional drinking treatment.

Let's see the history of this place. Pavilon Františkova pramene hides the oldest used spring in the city, which has been known since the Middle Ages as Slatina or Cheb acid. The water carriers carried the acidity here as a table drink to Cheb, indicating the long-term popularity and importance of this spring.

Now pay attention to an interesting mystery. Although there are many history associated with this place, some personalities from past times remain unknown. It may be an opportunity to explore the archives and discover more about those who helped shape today's Františkovy Lázně.

Let's look at the near future. The reconstruction of the pavilion will take place in 2024, which means a new chapter in its long-term history. This renovation will bring new life and probably some modern elements that will respect the original architecture.

I suggest you explore other parts of Františkova Spa. Every corner of this city has its own story and beauty waiting to be discovered. Thank you for your attention and I hope you enjoyed this guide. When we meet again, be healthy!

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit the pavilion at Peace Square in Františkova Lazne is early in the morning or during the morning, when the surrounding spa centre is quiet and the sun lights up the Empire architecture of this historic building. Transportation to the centre of the spa is easy to walk from the spa parks or through local roads; Check the specific public transport links in the relevant connection search engine. Bring a bottle for tasting the local spring, comfortable shoes for walking around the colonnade and suitable clothes according to current weather. To take pictures, choose the morning clock where the sun creates fine shadows on the classicist elements of the pavilion, and capture the detailed column and general view from the Square of Peace. Since there are no specific places in the area within 30 minutes, focus your attention on discovering other historical buildings and landscaped parks in the centre of Františkova Lazne.

Seasonal recommendations

The spring months awaken the spa park around the healing stock into fresh green and the sun slowly gains strength, creating a fragile and fresh atmosphere of awakening nature. The morning fog rises above the modified beds and the morning light radiates the classical architecture of the building beautifully. I recommend that you wear a lighter windbreaker to protect you from the cold wind and firm shoes to walk on still moist roads. The best time for a peaceful visit without disturbing influences is in the morning when the day wakes up and the air smells after the first flowers.

The summer season brings fully blooming spa orchards with rich greenery of tree crowns that provide a pleasant shade and cool during hot noon days. The sun's rays penetrate through the foliage and create interesting light patterns on the walls, with the atmosphere very lively and the air smells of warm soil. Choose light breathable clothes from natural materials, headgear and sunglasses as suitable protection. For the tour of the exteriors, it is best to have a late evening time when the sun falls lower and temperatures fall to pleasant values.

Autumn time covers the whole area in colorful colors from yellow to dark red and falling leaves rustling under the feet, giving the place a deep calm and nostalgic mood. The sun's light is often dampened by a foggy mist, which gives the whole image a mysterious touch. In this period, dress in a warm coat, remember the scarf and waterproof shoes, because the ground is slippery from rain and fallen leaves. The best moments for admiring architecture occur around noon, when the fog retreats for a while and daylight is the most constant.

The winter season turns the park into a quiet snow landscape, where the white blanket dampens the sounds of the outside world and creates a noble, fairy tale atmosphere. Short days offer a specific gray light that soon passes into darkness, and white snow beautifully reflects the remaining sun rays. The need is a quality winter footwear with anti-slip sole, warm hat, gloves and strong winter jacket, which will protect you from the freezing wind. The ideal time for visiting is around noon, when the outside is warmer and the surrounding landscape is best lit with daylight.
