Pivovar Lobeč, located in the village Lobeč in the district of Mělík in the Central Bohemian Region, is a historical building of a brewery with a Renaissance core from the beginning of the 17th century. This monument has since 2009 been registered as a cultural monument in the Central List of Real-Estate Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic and considered as an architectural and historical monument of fundamental importance. The brewery is part of the village monument zone Lobeč, announced on September 22, 1995, and is located in the territory of the Protected Landscape Region of Kokořín - Máchov region.

The first written mention of the brewery in Lobchi dates back to 1586. Originally, it was a craftsmanship brewery operated by the House of Towers, which gradually evolved and rebuilt. A key change for the brewery was presented by the engineer Josef Rosenberg for the investor JUDRA. Rudolf Cicvárek. This reconstruction brought new functional parts such as vaulted cellars and fridges, which increased the urban value of the complex.

During the 20th century, the brewery underwent several ownership changes. After 1927 he became part of the Social Brewery Podkován, known since 1434. During World War II, beer production was stopped and after 1948 the brewery was nationalized. After November 1989, the owner changed, but the new owners did not provide for the care of the memorial, which led to its further decaying.

The main milestone in the history of the brewery was 2007, when the RIOFRIO architectural platform launched its renewal. Two years later the site was declared a cultural monument and in 2013 it became part of the European Industrial Heritage Trail (ERIH). In 2014 the company Pivovar Lobeč, s. r. o., was awarded the Patrimonium Award for Futuro for the Rescue and Reconstruction of the Monument in 2015.

Architecturally, the brewery is characterized by its Renaissance core, which dates back to around 1600. The reconstruction into a parolee operation in the late 19th century brought new elements such as vaulted cellar spaces and granary over the original lobster. After renewal since 2007, the complex is again functional as a mini brewery.

Today, the Lobeč brewery is accessible to visitors who can discover not only the premises but also the brewery museum during the organized tours. The museum exhibits are focused on the most famous period of operation of the brewery and include the permanent construction of the "Selské gate to Mladoboloslav." The brewery also hosts various cultural events, making the visit interesting even for those interested in history and architecture.

Pivovar Lobeč is not only a monument with a rich history, but also a place that resembles the importance of protecting cultural heritage. Its renewal and current operation show how ancient buildings can be revived and made relevant for modern times. The visit to the brewery offers a unique opportunity to become acquainted with the history of the Czech brewery and appreciate the architectural importance of this place.

Welcome to the village Lobeč. You just stopped in front of one of the most important historical units in this part of our beautiful landscape. You are standing right in front of the building of the historic brewery, which is not only the heart of local history, but also an important symbol of the combination of tradition and tireless efforts to preserve our heritage. In front of you is a building that carries traces of centuries, and even though at first glance it may seem like one solid entity, it is actually a fascinating mix of different times and technological advances. Please feel the atmosphere of this place, which is part of the village monument zone and lies in the heart of the protected landscape area of Kokořín - Máchov region. This surrounding nature and calm that exists here create perfect sets for a monumental building that has been standing here for centuries.

Let us now return to the past together to understand how everything began. In order to really understand the importance of this place, we need to look at its roots, which go much further than it might seem. The first written mention of the existence of the brewery in Lobč dates back to 1586. Imagine that time, then the world was completely different, but the need to make a beer drink was already undeniable. From this early beginning, the Renaissance core of the building developed over time, which originated around 1600. This part forms the basic skeleton of the entire building and gives it its historical depth. The brewery was not just an ordinary boudoir, it was a living organism that shaped life around it.

Now pay attention to the architecture of the building itself, which is affecting you right now. When you look at its facade and its overall structure, try to realize that you don't see just one era but the layering of history. As I mentioned, the basis is the Renaissance core from the beginning of the seventeenth century. This is the oldest layer that gives the construction its characteristic stability and historical feel. However, what you see today is the result of a fundamental and very modern transformation that took place at the end of the nineteenth century. Between 1894 and 1897 the building underwent a major reconstruction designed by architect Josef Rosenberg. This transformation was absolutely revolutionary. The brewery was then transformed into a steam engine. What did it mean for the building? It meant the arrival of a new era, an era of machines and the power of steam, which enabled production to be made on a much larger scale. This reconstruction brought new elements into the building, such as vaulted cellars and fridges, which were the cutting edge of technical art at the time. So when you look at the mass and the extent of this building, see the combination of the ancient Renaissance spirit and industrial force of the late nineteenth century.

But behind every such important construction is people whose decisions and visions allowed the building to survive until our days. So let's talk about some of the personalities that were crucial to this brewery. In the late nineteenth century, namely between 1891 and 1902, JUDr. Rudolf Cicvárek worked here. It was an investor who put not only funds into this place but also faith in its future boom. It was his investment and courage at this time that made it possible to prepare the ground for the great technological transformation we talked about.

But the history of the brewery wasn't always about blossoming. We must realize that every monument goes through difficult times. There was a national nationalisation in 1948, which meant that the private owner had to give in to the administration. This era has been very difficult for many historical objects. Fortunately, however, the hope of saving this place has never gone out. The real break and new hope came only in 2007, when Jan and Pavel Prouz began to take care of the reconstruction of the complex. As new owners, they took on an incredible challenge. Thanks to their initiative and their cooperation with the RIOFRIO platform, it was possible to start a stunning restoration of the entire complex. It is because of their dedication and their professional approach that this object has become not only an empty vessel, but once again a living place. This work was so excellent that in 2009 the brewery was officially included in the list of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. And to confirm the profound importance of this renewal, in 2015, the company was awarded the prestigious Patrimonium Prize for saving and restoring this monument. This is proof that what you see before you is not just an ordinary building, but a victory of human effort over time and extinction.

If you're interested in something unusual, think about how this object has adapted to every new age. It's a fascinating mystery how Renaissance architecture from the beginning of the seventeenth century managed to connect so organically with the paratrophic technique of the late nineteenth century. These two totally different worlds - the world of old traditions and the world of modern industrial revolution - coexist here in one building. It's like you put ancient wisdom and modern energy together in one body. This ability to transform without losing its original essence is what makes this brewery so special.

Now that you've become familiar with his rich history, his architectural development, and the people who left their trail, I suggest you continue your search. Let yourself drift through the atmosphere of this place and try to find an echo in every detail of the building these past years. See the surroundings, feel the beauty of the protected landscape and enjoy the peace this place offers. Thank you for sharing this story with us. We wish you a pleasant continuation in discovering the beauty of Lobeče and other secrets waiting for you here. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

For the best experiences we recommend a visit on bright days, when the sun highlights the Renaissance elements of the building beautifully. Transport to the place is possible by car and by public transport; please check in advance the current transport connections and parking options in the maps or on the carrier's website.

It is ideal for families with children to walk around, which is part of the protected landscape area of Kokorovsko - Máchov region. During the visit we recommend to bring comfortable shoes and refreshments.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring brings fresh green colour and awakening nature around the Lobeč brewery. Soft sunlight beautifully highlights the details of historical architecture and creates a pleasant atmosphere for walks. We recommend wearing layered clothes because the weather can be variable. It is ideal to visit the morning hours when the air is purest and the surrounding area still quiet.

In the summer months the atmosphere around the building is very lively and the sun lights every brick in its full power. Days are long, which allows you to enjoy the memory until late evening. Due to the increased attendance in the main summer season, it is advisable to arrive as early as possible in the morning to avoid the largest crowds. Remember light summer clothes and plenty of fluids for a pleasant experience.

Autumn turns the surroundings into a varied palette of gold and brown shades, which gives the brewery a nostalgic and magical touch. The morning mist sometimes covers historical walls in mystery, which is ideal for lovers of photography. For comfortable movement we recommend shoes with good grip because the soil can be moist. It is convenient to plan a visit in the afternoon to capture warm sunsets.

Winter season offers a calm and quiet atmosphere where frost and possible snow emphasize the sobriety of historical buildings. Short days mean light is very low, which creates interesting shadows on the facade. It is essential to prepare for strong cold clothes and defend the wind. In advent time or during freezing days we recommend to watch opening times that are shorter in this period.
