Poštovní dvůr Building complex

Poštovní dvůr in Karlovy Vary is a historic building built in 1781 in the style of classicism and later converted into an empire in 1810. It is located on the edge of the spa part of the town by the road leading to Mariánské Spa and Pilsen. This building is a cultural monument declared since 1958, known for its historical value and architectural design.

The creation of the Postal Court was related to the development of the spa city Karlovy Vary in the Enlightenment period when the spa became popular. Originally, the building was built as a postal yard with a lifting station for horse sledding in 1791 by Karlovy Vary postmaster Josefov Korb, serving as an important stop point on the conversion route of spa guests.

Architectural is Poštovní dvůr a representative of Classicism and later the Empire. The original building had stables for horses, shelters for stagecoach and other equipment needed for postal services. In 1810, the building was rebuilt by Gotthelf Friedrich Pfitzmeier in empirical style, which included the extension of the hall and other modifications. The oldest iron spa building monument in the Czech Republic - cast iron veranda built in 1867 according to the design of Vienna's architects Fellner and Helmer.

The history of the Postal Court is rich in changes in owners. After Karlova Korb, who sold the building to the Imperial Era in 1801, the building was rented out by Filip Valentine Keil and later donated to a hospital for poor spa guests. In 1809 it was purchased by Gotthelf Friedrich Pfitzmeier, which converted it into a coffee shop Caffé Posthof. Later, the building went into the hands of the Unger family and the Kiffls who gave it its present form.

After World War II, Poštovní dvůr was nationalized and after years of abandonment in 1992, CIMEX purchased the site, which had made overhauls. Today's owner is Poštovní dvůr s. r. o., which has an execution order to sell the property.

Today Poštovní dvůr stands as a witness to the rich history of spa towns and architecture of the 18th and 19th centuries. Its representative hall, decorated with fresco Josef Kramolín, and cast iron veranda attracts visitors from all over the world. Poštovní dvůr is not only a monument to architecture, but also a place where history and the present meet.
