Poštovní štola Other
Poštovní štola, located 6 km south of Zlaté Hor in the district of Jeseník, is a historic mining monument declared by the cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 1994. This wall is a testament to the history of metal mining, especially copper ores and pyrite, which has taken place since the 16th century. It is part of the Zlatohora Mining Educational Path and offers visitors a view of underground mining techniques of past times.
The first written mention of the Postal Stol dates back to 1513. The biggest development of mining activity took place in the second half of the 17th century, when cyclic copper ores and later pyrite were extracted. The mining took place through terraced depth, in which the rock was disturbed by planting fire and then chopping off by means of a beating and handcuffs. In 1650-1653 the mines were inspected and the water extraction for the production of vitriol and copper ore was recorded.
Kupferzeche, later known as the Holy Trinity and now Poštovní štola, was conquered in 1653-1678. In 1754- 1756 she opened a new mine and in 1870 Count Larisch began with the mining of pyrite which lasted until 1878. In the second half of the 20th century, the estuary was part of the Zlaté Hory- East, and in the period from 1988- 1992 there was production of polymetallic Pb-Zn ores, which ended in 1993.
Underground space Postal stalls are rich in historical elements. Parts of hand-cut corridors and chimneys from the oldest periods are preserved, as well as mining chambers with remains of 18th century equipment, including original wooden watertight equipment, pipes and gutters. Some parts of this facility were transported to a museum in Bruntal. Blue allophane decoration is one of the attractions of the underground, along with stone bases reaching up to 5 metres and a wood store, inlaid with mineral solutions.
In 2012, the city of Zlaté Hory bought the land from the State Company Diamo for CZK 300,000. The total range of corridors is about 180 km, partly available to the public on 16 June 2015 about 250 m of corridors (500m of circuit). Further archaeological surveys and work on accessing other parts of the underground followed. In 2016, a replica of the waterproof equipment was produced and the tour was extended to 500 m corridors lasting approximately 2.5 hours.
Today Poštovní štola is not only a monument to the past, but also an educational centre for visitors. Its historical significance and preserved elements offer a unique insight into the techniques and life of miners from the past centuries. For those who want to understand the heritage of mining in the Jeseníky region, Poštovní štola is an unmistakable destination.
Visiting this monument brings the opportunity to become familiar with the history of mining and to understand the importance of metal mining for the economic and technological development of the region. Poštovní štola is not only a monument, but also a living witness to history worth discovering.

Welcome to the Golden Mountains, a place where history touches the earth and where every stone carries the echo of ancient events. You're standing in front of one of the most important witnesses to the past of this county - the Post Office. Before you go any further, stop for a moment and see what surrounds you right now. Before your eyes is the entrance to a world that has been hidden deep beneath your feet for centuries. Do you feel a strange, serious atmosphere? It is a combination of the calm of the surrounding nature and the invisible force of human effort that has been going on here for many generations. This well is not just a simple hole in the rock or corridor in the ground. It is a living gateway to a time when mining was the fundamental pillar of existence and when people with great courage fought the darkness and hardness of the country to get what they needed for their lives and the blooming of the entire region.
In order to truly understand the importance of this place, we have to let the flow of time drift into the past. The history of this well is incredibly long and rich, its roots extend deep into the dark centuries. The first clues that tell us about this place are in the form of written references, which date back to 15:13. Imagine that time - the world was completely different at the time, much slower and people were just learning to control the secrets of the earth. But the real boom, the moment when this place became the real center of action and human labor, came only in the second half of the seventeenth century. This was the era when mining became a highly organized and important activity. In the years sixteen hundred and fifty-three to sixteen hundred and seventy-eight, this stol was in the greatest activity. It's very interesting that at that time they didn't call her as we know her today. In the first period, it was mentioned under the German name Kupferzeche, which refers directly to the copper wealth that was sought here. Later, in the period of its greatest bloom, this place began to be called the Holy Trinity. This change of name may reflect not only the changes in the people who worked here, but also the spiritual atmosphere, which was so important to miners in difficult and dangerous conditions underground. Later, in seventeen hundred and fifty-four, a new mine opened up, which shows that the interest in underground treasures never went out.
Now pay attention to what's right in front of you. Although you will not find monumental buildings with high towers or richly decorated facades, its true beauty lies in its raw and genuine form. Feel this structure, which is directly expelled from the surrounding landscape and which is firmly linked to what lies inside. This historic mining monument was declared a cultural monument of the Czech Republic in nineteen hundred ninety-four, which gives it a completely different dimension and reminds us how valuable this place is for our history. When you look at this input, feel the weight of time and the stability that this space emits. Although we do not know the names of the particular architects who designed this shaft or who shaped it with their instruments, their genius and their work are in every piece of rock left behind. Their work is not in ornaments, but in the very ability to create a path to the depths that resisted the test of time.
To understand why this place is so special, we need to talk about what was really wanted here. This mantle witnessed a constant search and tireless effort. For centuries, people have sought not only gold, but mainly copper ores and pyrite. These metals were extremely valuable in the world at that time, and their mining was the foundation of the economy of the whole region. Imagine the hard days, the dust-stained human faces, and the constant effort to pull out the most valuable thing in the world. Although the names of many ordinary miners from the oldest years have been lost in the fog of time, history still reminds us of those who have influenced the fate of this place. In the year one thousand eight hundred seventy, Count Larisch became part of history. He decided to look down again and focus on the mining of pyrite. This was proof that even after long years this place was still able to redefine and bring new opportunities. Larisch's contribution shows how mining changed from simple mining to organized business in an industrial era, when science and technology began to associate with hard work underground.
But there is also something that can really interest you and that you can think about long after you leave. It's the constant transformation of the identity of this place. From the first mention in the sixteenth century, to the period when the stol was known as the Holy Trinity, to today's status as a significant cultural monument. There's something fascinating about it - how this place has adapted to every time it visits. Every era gave him a new name, a new purpose, and new values. It's like looking at a very old tree that has many layers in it and each layer tells a different story about survival and growth. Poštovní štola is exactly the kind of tree of history that still stands and teaches us how the world was changing around us and how people sought the way to wealth hidden within the earth.
Now that you have learned the basic story of this place and perceive its meaning, we invite you to the next path. Don't rush. Poštovní štola is just one of the many stops on the Zlatohora miners' trail. This path can guide you through this rich world of mining and show you other wonders and secrets that are hidden in this beautiful region. See the surrounding landscape, feel the atmosphere of the Golden Mountains and let their history consume you. Thank you for spending this moment with us and for being interested in our history together. We wish you a beautiful and inspiring journey further in discovering everything this country has to offer you.
