Dr. Martin Luther's memorial in Aši, Karlovy Vary Region, dates back to 1883 and is the only such monument to this personality in the Czech Republic. It is located near the local town hall and Hus Square, making it an important symbol of Lutheran tradition in the region.

The object was revealed on November 11, 1883 during Lutherfest, celebrating the 400th anniversary of Martin Luther's birth. Its cost was 6,775 marks. The monument refers to the strong Lutheran tradition of Aš, where the local evangelical choir was among the largest in Austria-Hungary at the time of its creation.

The model of the statue was designed by Nuremberg sculptor Johann Wolfgang Rössner. Life-size cast was performed in Nuremberg Christoph Albrecht Lenz, whose family has been engaged in art foundry since 1829. Both artists share a memorial of Martin Behaim in Nuremberg. The base of polished syenite was made by the stonemason Wilhelm Wölfel from the Bavarian Selb.

On the statue Martin Luther holds the right hand on the heart and the left has an open Bible. The statue is known for its precision, which is evidenced by details such as the depiction of elevated veins. On the front side of the pedestal is the inscription Dr. MARTIN LUTHER and on the back the information about the discovery on 10 November 1883.

The monument is one of the last preserved historical objects of the original city centre. Since 2008, he's been in the current place. In its immediate surroundings, there was previously the Evangelical Church of the Holy Trinity, which burned down in 1960; its original bases were marked in 2003.

In 1999 the monument underwent renovation, financed by the city of Aš and Heimatverband des Kreises Asch. The inscription Restaurant im Jahre 1999 durch dem Heimatverband des Kreises Asch und die Stadt Asch recalls this correction. In 2013 the monument was damaged by a fallen branch, which cost a subsequent repair of approximately CZK 100,000.

V roce 2018 byl objekt vyhlášen kulturní památkou. Jeho unikátnost a spojení s náboženskou historií regionu činí z něj pro návštěvníky Aše významný bod zájmu.

This unique monument is an important witness to the cultural and religious history of the border. We recommend to visit it while walking through the city centre Aš.

Welcome to Aš. Right now, standing right in front of this important monument, you're in a place that carries deep traces of history. Feel the atmosphere surrounding you, and try to imagine what this place looked like decades ago. This statue is not just an ordinary work of art built in urban space, it is a silent and dignified witness to many events that this region has experienced during its long duration. Look at this object and try to find a connection between the past and the present.

In order to fully understand why this monument is here and why it is so important for the locals, we need to go back in time together. Imagine November 21st of the year a thousand eight hundred and eighty-three. That was the unique day this monument was first revealed to the general public. The whole event was not just an ordinary ceremony, but part of the great celebrations that took place for the four forty-year anniversary of the birth of one of the most important figures in history, which is Dr. Martin Luther. These celebrations were very important at the time and this monument became their main symbol. It was a period when history formed right in front of the people who gathered here to honor the legacy of this great man.

Now pay attention to how this whole was created. There were two sound creators behind his appearance and his creation who put their expertise and artistic vision into the work. It was Johann Wolfgang Rössner and also Christoph Albrecht Lenz. Even if you look at the finished, solid whole today, you can feel the effort for perfection and the weight that these authors put into their work. Feel the presence that this object emits and how it fits the overall appearance of this place. Every detail you see now is the result of their work and their view of how this important person should be preserved for future generations.

Now let's focus on the figure that is guarded by this monument. Dr. Martin Luther is a character whose influence has exceeded the borders of this city and this region. For this city and for the whole neighborhood, for this Aš, this monument is of profound importance. It is a powerful symbol of the Lutheran tradition, which has rooted here very deeply. The local evangelical congregation here formed a solid base and this monument serves as a constant reminder of these roots. When you look at this statue, you're not just looking at the statue of a man, but you're looking at a symbol of faith, tradition and history that shaped the character of this entire region.

And here comes something that should really interest you. You may not have realized it yet, but this object is absolutely extraordinary. In our entire country, from the highest mountains to the lowest valleys, you will find no such monument to this particular personality. So you're witnessing something unique in the entire state. In the year two thousand and seventeen, this uniqueness was officially recognized when this building was declared a cultural monument. This means that its value is not only in its appearance, but in what it represents for our common history. It's a treasure we have to protect together.

So imagine the weight this monument carries. It is a combination of the artwork of two authors, a deep religious tradition of the local people and an absolutely unique position throughout the country. Every year that this monument spends in its place adds another layer to its rich history.

I hope this short journey over time has helped you better understand what you're seeing right now. This monument is not just part of the street, it's part of the soul of this city. After this recording, however, you will expect not only historical questions, but also beautiful moments of the present. So continue to explore the city of Aš, look around you and perceive the beauty of this place, which just now pleasantly surprised you. We thank you for spending this moment with us, and we are passing you a beautiful and inspiring journey further.
