Raise your head and look around you. What you see is an exemplary baroque structure designed for walking, which takes the form of one elegant arch supplemented by massive pillars. When you look more closely at the structure itself, notice that the entire building is honestly built from local building material, which is quarry slate. The edges of this bridge are firmly secured by an honest stone railing and the total height of this whole structure ranges up to a respectable six and a half meters to the upper parapet.

Now let's move forward in time and look at how this building came into being and what history writes. The year is seventeen hundred twenty-four and in this place a stone bridge grows for purely practical reasons. It was not built to cross a wild river or connect busy commercial cities, but to serve as a link and bridge a deep moat that then divided the old and new evangelical cemetery. People have walked through here for generations with their deceased, in silence and contemplation, and this journey has been a solid part of their daily life and the running of the entire community.

Now pay attention to the architecture itself and the details that are right in front of your eyes. Although we do not know the names of the builders or architects who inhaled this stone, their work speaks for them. The single-arc structure is fixed and stable. The massive pillars have been carrying the weight of the bridge for centuries, and the quarry shale has supplied the whole piece with a rough but harmonious texture that fits perfectly into the Karlovy Vary region. Try to imagine what it was like to walk on this bridge at the time of its greatest glory, when the wind in the trench shouted beneath it, and there were people running up between the two sacred places.

This bridge has an incredibly long story of loyal service. He has performed his original and primary functions for an incredibly long time, over two hundred and fifty years. He served his purpose continuously until the 1970s. But then the outside world changed. The old cemetery was abolished and instead of drinking silence it turned into a space where tennis courts grew up. The bridge suddenly lost its original meaning, its old partners in the form of cemetery gates and remained a lonely witness to the past, but it refused to leave.

If we look closely at the modern history of this place, we will find that its value has not gone unnoticed. In nineteen hundred and eighty-seven, the bridge was quite well-deserved to be a monument-protected object, which officially recognised its historical and architectural uniqueness. However, time does not cuddle with the stone, and therefore in twenty-one here the necessary reconstruction work started to take place, which aims to preserve this precious building for the next generation, so that it continues to tell its story about how Aš looked in earlier times.
