The statue of St. John Nepomucký, located in the Říkovice district of Přerov, is a Baroque work carved from a fine-grained Malatinese sandstone. Created in 1719 on behalf of owners of the manor by the brothers Jan Václav and Jan Vilem Říkovský of Dobrčice, he represents a saint in Canovnik robes with a biret. Since 1958 it has been a protected cultural monument and has been reconstructed several times.

This work comes from the Baroque period, which brought the boom of artistic and architectural development in Bohemia. The Baroque manifested itself by centralization of power and religious conflicts, which also affected the creative processes of that time.

The architecture of the statue is an example of baroque art. Carved from a fine-grained Maletian sandstone, the statue measures approximately 4 meters with a base. The saint stands on a four-sided decorated pedestal located on two staircase steps. The front side of the pedestal is decorated with floral motifs and oval cartouche with Anna 1719. The saint has a biret on his head, he lacks most of his left hand, including crucifix, while his right hand's fingers are partially damaged. Before the reconstruction in 2016 the statue was missing also the nose.

After its creation, the statue was placed in the fields between the old lipas, approximately 700 metres north of Říkovice. This site is now known as St. John's. Eighty years later, the renovation was carried out by Jan Felix Ležatka, who was a kromeriz sculptor and stonemason. Renovation was financed by the Greek bream Jan Samohrd, as the Latin inscription on the back says: "Renovatum Ao Di 1797 ex voto Ioannis Samold rzikowicensis praxatoris. Ioann Felix Lezatka lap Crem renovated." Since 1958, the statue has been protected as a cultural monument and was moved to a built part of the village in places of the former cemetery during restoration in 2000.

The statue of St. John Nepomuk today is more than just an artistic monument. It is a symbol of the history and traditions of Říkovice, which attracts visitors from all around. Although it has undergone several reconstructions, it still retains its original beauty and meaning. Her presence in the city is not only a monument to the past, but also a part of the life of the present community.

The statue of St. John Nepomuk is worth visiting not only for its historical and cultural importance. It is a reminder of the rich past of the Greek and an opportunity to appreciate the artistic skill of the Baroque era. Visitors can not only see a beautiful work, but also immerse themselves in the history of this small village and its importance to the region.

Welcome to the picturesque village Říkovice, where you are just in front of one of the most famous places in this location - the statue of St. John Nepomuk. This Baroque statue has been waiting for you before to have its historical and artistic value. Take a look up at this important work carved from a fine-grained Malatine sandstone, which stands as a testament to the past and traditions.

Let's move on to the beginnings of this statue. In 1719 it was created to order owners of the manor, brothers Jan Václav and Jan Vilém Říkovský from Dobrčice. These nobles wished to have a statue in their mansion that would not only decorate space but also symbolize faith and protection. Saint John Nepomucký, known for his piety and courage, was an ideal patron for the local noble family.

Now pay attention to the statue itself. Note the details of the canoeing robes and birettes on the head of a saint who are carved with great care and artistic affection. The statue is built to welcome and impress you with its elegance and historical value. Since 1958, it has been protected as a cultural monument, indicating its importance for the region.

The key personalities associated with this monument include Jan Felix Ležatka, who renovated the statue in the 18th century. His work helped preserve this statue for future generations and ensures its preservation as an important cultural heritage.

Interestingly enough, despite several renovations, the statue of St. John Nepomuk has remained in its original form and still occupies a key position in the local cultural panorama. It's a real example of how art and history can celebrate together.

By inviting you to further explore, we will leave you with this moved impression. Whether you are looking at other sights or talking about historical stories, Říkovice offers many attractions that await being discovered. Thank you for your visit and we hope you enjoyed this piece of our history here.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is spring or autumn, when the weather is pleasant for walking outside. We recommend to come in the morning or late afternoon, when the sun gently illuminates the details of baroque sculpture.

The location is available by car and by public transport; Check the current connection in the search engine.

For comfortable movement in the area of the village we recommend shoes suitable for the field. If you're interested in history, bring a guide to the Baroque arts.

For the best pictures, focus your lens on fine wrinkles and details of the Maletian sandstone. The ideal light for capturing the sculpture of St. John Nepomuk in the canoe is shortly before sunset.

With children, you can use the statue to play for details. Try to find with them all the elements of the saint's clothing or observe the texture of the stone from which the work is carved.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring: In spring nature awakens around the monument and the surrounding trees begin to green. The light is gentle and pleasant for the eyes in this period. It is advisable to take layered clothes because the morning cold can be accompanied by sudden heat. The best time to visit is in the morning when the air is the cleanest.

Summer: During the summer months, the surroundings are very green and the sun shines intensively. In the prime of summer, there are more people in the outdoors. The days are long, which offers enough time to walk. I suggest you carry a sun cap and drinking water. For the best experience, choose a late afternoon when the light is less sharp.

Autumn: Autumn season offers beautiful leaf colors and often a fog wound that gives the monument a mysterious mood. The weather is variable and wet. It's important to wear a waterproof jacket and warmer clothes. The best thing to do is to come in the morning, when the fog is mostly brought down.

Winter: In winter the surroundings are rather rough because of the bare branches, but the snow can highlight the memory beautifully. The light is weak in this period and the days are short. It is necessary to have very warm clothes and quality shoes for walking on a cold surface. The most suitable visit is around noon, when the light is the most.
