Stará vodárna v Mladé Boleslavi is a technical construction from 1723. It is located on Vodkov Street and is a protected cultural monument of the Czech Republic. This Baroque water work attracts attention to its historical significance and architecture, which reflects the technological progress of the time. Part of the monument is also a Neo-Classicist house with a 19th-century service facility in Ptácké Street.

The history of the water plant dates back to 1496, when páni z Cimburka built it. In 1510 the first well-known water machine was mentioned, drawing water from the Underground spring to the city. The system was part of the Podstěen mill and its miller served as a city vodka. In 1554- 1555 páni z Krajku built a new building, but it collapsed in 1721. In 1723, Pavel Ignác Bayer's current stone tower was established. It was realized by a small-town builder Mikuláš Rossi. In 1761, the tower was repaired after the fire.

Architecturally, it is a four-storey stone building with brick trimmings in the shape of a chamallow needle on a square plan. The facade is decorated with smooth plaster and three narrow roms, the windows are rectangular in shape. There are four skylights on the tent roof with circular holes. On the top floor, there was an earlier water facility that was used to draw water into the city.

The ownership and administration of the Old Waterworks have undergone several changes. After its construction, it was taken over by the masters of Cimburk by páni z Krajku, who built a new water plant on the site of the original building. After its collapse, the current stone tower was established in 1723.

Key events include its construction by its masters from Cimburk in 1496, the collapse of the previous building in 1721 and the subsequent position of the new tower in 1723. In 1761 there was a repair after the fire and in 1874 a new classicist house was built with pumping equipment.

Today Stará vodárna v Mladé Boleslavi is open to visitors as a cultural monument. Historical and architectural importance makes it an interesting destination for tourists and locals who want to learn more about the technique of past times. The visit offers an opportunity to appreciate the history and architecture of the Czech cultural heritage.

The construction is not only a technical evidence of the past, but also evidence of the innovative nature of the builders at the time. Her tour brings knowledge of the history of Young Bloslav and offers a view of the technological development that shaped the lives of people in this area. Welcome to one of the most important technical monuments of our city. You're standing right in front of an old water house, a building that's been watching over Mlada Boslaví and her life for centuries. Now, if you look at this massive four-story stone structure, you're likely to be immediately affected by its impressive presence and the sense of stability that radiates from it. This building is not just an ordinary house, it is a monumental witness to the changes the city has undergone, from medieval beginnings to modern times. Feel the atmosphere of a place where the need for human life is combined with technical progress and architectural art.

However, in order to understand why this building is standing right here and why it is so important to us, we must go back deep into the past together until the city was formed. The whole history of this place, the history of water supply, dates back to the year of the thousand and four hundred ninety-six. This year, the first waterworks were built by the men of Cimburk. Even then it was clear that without a reliable water source, the city could not prosper. Historical records then tell us about the fascinating development of technology. For example, already in the year of the most thousand pięć set ten was mentioned in our documents the first known water machine. This machine had an incredible role because it drew water directly from the Underground spring and transported it to the very heart of the city. Imagine the effort and joy at the time that the city gains access to clean water through machines.

However, the path of this building has not always been a linear process of success. History is full of trials that have had to overcome this water unit. In the year one thousand seven hundred twenty-one, a tragic event occurred when the previous water building collapsed. It was a period of uncertainty, but also an opportunity for a fresh start. Just two years later, in the year one thousand seven hundred twenty-three, a new stone tower that you see before you began to emerge. This reconstruction was the pinnacle of the then engineering art. Later, in the year one thousand seven hundred sixty-one, the building had to face another test when it was hit by a fire that required expensive repairs to the tower. And finally, already in the period of the new industrial age, namely in the year of the year no more than eight hundred seventy-four, a new classicist house with modern pumping equipment was added to the whole, which had completed the construction by then.

Now, I beg you, pay full attention to what you see right in front of you. Look at the structure of the building itself. It's a four-story object whose foundation is a solid square plan. This geometry gives the construction balance and strength. Note how the building's stone material is supplemented with interesting details. On the facade, you can see brick linings that are shaped like a chamber needle. This element gives the walls depth and interesting visual rhythm. The whole appearance of the building is supplemented by smooth plaster, which looks elegant and clean. If you move your eyes after the height of the facade, you will see three narrow moldings that horizontally divide the floors and provide the construction with an appropriate order. The rectangular windows that are located here are indicative of the functionality of this space.

Now raise your sight even higher, to the very crown of this building. Look at the tent roof. It's very easy to see four skylights. These roof elements have an interesting look thanks to their circular holes, which bring a fine, geometric element into the roof. It's important to know that the most technical thing happened on the top floor. It was there that the most important water facility that kept this whole piece going. This entire building is today protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic, which confirms to us how valuable this place is for our history and identity.

There are really big names behind this construction. Speaking of architecture and planning, we can't forget the characters that gave this stone tower life. The current form of construction, as you see it, was created according to Pavel Ignác Bayer's precise plan. He was a man who could turn technical need into an architectural entity. He then entrusted the implementation of this plan to Nicholas Rossi, who, with his expertise and craftsmanship, was able to materialise these visions in stone and bricks. These two men, Bayer and Rossi, worked together to create a work that would resist the trials of time, which, as you can see, they did. In the history of this place, however, the actions of noble families such as páni z Cimburka, who laid the first stones, or páni z Krajku, who were part of the wider historical context of the region, were constantly reflected.

Now I want to tell you one thing that may surprise you, which gives this place both mystery and depth. Even though you're looking at a beautiful, stable building today, you have to realize that everything you see here was built around an invisible but constantly flowing source. The entire existence of this water plant was dependent on the invisible movement of water from the Underground spring. Imagine the constant work, the constant mechanical effort that took place in these walls to get water into every house. This building was basically a huge, stone heart that pumped life force into the whole city. Every stone and brick here was part of this great technological organism.

Now that you've been through the basic history and details of this construction, I suggest you continue your walk around. The old water plant is just one of many points that make up the story of Young Bloslav. Feel the atmosphere of this city that is constantly changing, but still retains its historical roots. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to do this important water work. We hope that this view of the past has helped you better understand the beauty and importance of the places we walk around every day. We're telling you another pleasant part of your journey.

Tips for visitors

The most suitable period for the tour is a period with clear weather, when sunlight best highlights the details of brick linings and rims on the facade of the building.

During the visit we recommend to have drinking water and comfortable shoes for possible walks around.

For lovers of photography are the best angles directly from the streets of Vodkov or Ptácká, especially in the morning or afternoon, when light best underlines the texture of stone and rectangular windows.

Families with children can use a quieter atmosphere of nearby streets to observe interesting architecture without a great rush.

Seasonal recommendations

In spring, the surrounding green flourishes and the monument gains a fresh look. The soft spring light highlights the details of the water work and the atmosphere is full of optimism. I suggest you dress in layered clothes because the weather is variable. It is best to visit the place in the morning when crowds of visitors are still small.

The summer season brings sharp sun and rich green trees that provide a pleasant shade. The air is hot and the space is live. Due to the high season, it is advisable to come right at the opening to avoid the biggest groups of people. Choose light, breathable clothes and don't forget enough fluids.

In the autumn, the surroundings of the waterworks are colored in golden and brown tones, creating a nostalgic mood. Common morning fog gives the whole area a mysterious touch. It's practical to carry a waterproof jacket or umbrella. I recommend a visit in the afternoon when the light is warmer and tourists significantly less.

In winter, the construction works mechanically and minimally, especially if snow covers it. The atmosphere is calm and quiet, typical of the rest period of nature. It is necessary to choose very warm clothes and fixed shoes. Before travelling, check opening times that are shorter at this time and take advantage of the rest of the advent period.
