This location gives him a special character as if he were a key link in the chain of historical stories that this square tells.

To understand why this house looks like this, we have to go back to the end of the nineteenth century. Imagine Prague in 1896 and 1897. The city was going through huge blossoms and ambitions. At that time, a very important person, publisher Alexander Štorch, decided to create something special in this place. However, the whole process did not start with construction, but rather with preparation. Already in 1896 an older house had to be demolished in this place to make room for a new, magnificent vision. Alexander Štorch didn't just want an ordinary mansion, it wanted a building that reflected its position and the spirit of the times that Prague experienced.

Now pay attention to the architecture itself, which you see right in front of you. The whole project was prepared by architect Friedrich Ohmann. His task was to create a building that was modern for its time, but also deeply rooted in tradition. That's why he chose a demanding and very specific style - Vladislav Gothic. If you look at the facade now, maybe in that style you'll start looking for certain features that resemble medieval beauty, but in a newer, richly decorated concept.

Notice the details that can be caught in your eyes immediately. Look up, right above the entrance to the building. Do you see the statue of the Madonna? It's one of those elements that gives the house its spiritual and noble touch. If you then move the view to the window of the type of bay, you can see the statues of the evangelist. These statues are not just an ornament; They are the guardians of this house who, with the weight of time, follow every visitor to the square.

Now get ready for the most amazing thing this house has to offer. If you look at the facade, your eyes will hit rich frescoes. These paintings are not the work of a random artist, but the result of close cooperation between two great personalities. The designs for these paintings were prepared by Mikoláš Aleš, one of the largest Czech painters, and the frescoes itself made by Ladislav Novák. It is fascinating to imagine the cooperation here - how the vision of the legendary Ales has turned into the colors and shapes that still charm the passers-by today. Among the motifs you can see on the facade, for example, you will find the character of Jan Amos, which adds another layer of cultural importance to the building.

But the history of this house was not just a desire for beauty and art. It's also a story about resistance and rebirth. We have to go back in time again, this time until 1945. The Prague uprising was a period of incredible tension, heroism and tragedy. During these stormy days, there was a devastating fire that also struck this house. The fire tried to destroy this beauty, leaving traces of destruction and damage. Many people may have thought that Štorchův dům would never return to its original glory.

But history has other plans. As early as 1948, the building started to rebuild. People believed in her value at the time so much that they decided to rebuild her after the fire damage and preserve her face. This recovery was a triumph over destruction, and today, thanks to it, we can look at these frescoes and statues that could otherwise have died long ago. It is a reminder that even though the buildings are made of stone and paint, their true strength lies in human efforts to preserve them.

So when you look at Štorchův dům, you realize that you don't just see the facade with the decorations. You see the result of the ambition of one publisher, architect Ohmann's championship, the visionary art of Ales and Novak. You see the fight between fire and renewal. And you see a place that stands firmly in the middle of a changing world in the Old Town Square.
