Studna ze Střížovic Fountain
The Baroque well from Srožovice, now located in Zubrnice, is a historical monument from 1695. Originally built by Jan František Krakovský of Kolovrat and Chlumce as part of the development of the village of Srožovice, which suffered from water scarcity, this fountain represents an important element of Baroque architecture and local cultural heritage. Its depth is 26,5 metres and the shaft is lined with sandstone blocks.
Architecturally, it is an eight-sided brick construction with a six-sided stone arm, which has a simple ledge and a circular opening in the middle. On the southwest side there is a medallion with the inscription AMOR DEI ET PROIMI CAUSA FONTIS 1695 ("Love for God and neighbor built this well 1695"). The well is protected by an octave wooden structure with columns and arches, which has a small tower on top of the roof with a bell.
After the end of World War II, there were changes in the composition of the local population and the well was last repaired in the second half of the 1950s, but after that it was only decaying. In 1977, it was moved to Zubrnice due to a threat to coal mining. The former wooden rumpal and gear transmission system did not partially retain.
In Zubrnice, the well was later reconstructed in the original form with a turret on the roof. Since 2015, there have been two identical cutting wells - an original, repaired object in a dental scan and a new replica in Sížovice. The Replica was built by a local association of Levil with the support of the Ústí community foundation and the town of Chlumce, its construction was completed by the ceremonial suspension of the bell on 7 November 2015.
Today the well in Zubrnice is part of a national and architectural exhibition that attracts many visitors interested in the history and culture of the region. Its importance lies not only in its architectural heritage, but also in its symbolising the historical transformation of the area and commemorating the importance of water resources for the development of villages. The well is not only a monument to the past, but also a living testimony about the history and culture of the North Bohemian region.
Visiting this Baroque well offers a unique view of the historical heritage of the Czech Republic and reminds us how important it is to preserve and appreciate the monuments of the past. It is not only for historians and architects, but also for any quitter who is interested in the rich history of our region.

Let's go into history. This fountain was built in 1695 by Jan František Krakovski of Kolovrat and Chlumce, a famous figure of his time. Built as part of the development of the village of Sřežovice, which had a water shortage, the fountain was necessary for the inhabitants of this site. Its construction represented an important investment in infrastructure and improved living conditions.
Now pay attention to the architecture of the fountain, which is a truly admirable work. Its eight-sided brick structure and six-sided stone arms create a harmonious balance. The depth of the fountain reaches 26,5 metres and its shaft is fitted with sandstone blocks, which gives the whole structure strength and elegance.
