Rymická fortress is a two-storey Renaissance building close to the village Rymice in Kroměříž. The building is today owned by the Zlín Region and managed by the Kroměřízska Museum. The monument was created at the site of an older aristocratic residence and is historically linked to important personalities, including Albrecht of Valdštejn.

The first written mention of the predecessor of today's fort dates back to 1374. The original medieval mansion was destroyed during the Czech-Hungarian wars in the second half of the 15th century. Substati of Prusinovic decided to build a new fortress in the same place. It was designed not as a defensive fortress, but as a comfortable representative mansion. It is believed that Prokop Podstatský z Prusinovic could have stayed here, which bought Bouzov Chateau in 1546.

Architecturally, it is a two-storey Renaissance building, which is complemented by historical economic objects, including granary and administrative buildings. In the 19th century, the fort was used for industrial purposes. On the second floor they set up a Wrbne sugar factory, which however, because of the competition and resistance of local farmers to sugar beet cultivation in 1858, disappeared.

The history of possession of the fortress is varied and includes a number of important families. After Podstadt of Prusinovice, the residence went into the hands of Václav Nekesh of Landek. He, in his will, bequeathed the estate to the niece Lucricio Nekšová of Landek, wanting to preserve the integrity of the estate and provide for a friendly family of Víckovci. Lucrezia married Albrecht from Valdštejn in 1609, for whom Rymice became a popular Moravian residence. After Lucrecia's death, Albrecht's property fell, but later lost his property. During the 17th century several owners were replaced in possession of the fort, including Jakub of Bois, Zdeněk of Lobkovice, Alexander Haugvic or Olomouc Jesuits. Since 1811 it belonged to a fortress of the family of Wrbns, who were its last noble holders.

The history of the object is linked to several remarkable events. Václav Nekeš z Landeka, for example, has bequeathed its property to non-Catholics in violation of the period conventions. The marriage of Lucrezia Nekšová and Albrecht of Valdštejn is accompanied by only one written note, which Albrecht wrote into his horoscope composed by Jan Kepler. During the wars of Naples, the fort served as a branch of a military field hospital where French soldiers were treated. In the 20th century, the object gradually faded. It was used as a hoarder, family residence, seat of the National Committee or JZD. In addition, he was hit by an artillery grenade during World War II.

Currently, the fort is managed by the Museum of Kromerizska and represents an important document of Renaissance construction and noble life in Moravia. Visiting this place offers a unique insight into history, which is closely linked to the fate of influential Moravian families and key figures of Czech history. For those interested in the past, the ryme resort is a valuable testimony about the changes of noble mansions over the centuries.

Welcome to the historical memory of Rymice Chateau! You're standing in front of an impressionable two-story Renaissance object that boasts elegance and peace that tells you about its past. In front of you is a building with a facade full of history and beauty, whose canyon windows and square foundation declare comfortable living rather than defensive fortress. Notice how the sun is discouraged on its walls, adding a sense of peace and elegance.

Let's dive into the history of this place. The first record of the nobility on the site of the fort dates back to 1374. This area witnessed several major events and changes of owners that shaped her fate. In 1546 Prokop Podstatský z Prusinovic, then owner of the fortress, purchased the castle Bouzov, which was an important step in the world of nobility of that time. The following decade brought a new connection when Lukrécie Nekšová z Landeka married Albrecht of Valdštejn in 1609, an important event for the region.

The architecture of the fortress is a real business in the Renaissance industry. Look up at two floors and notice the symmetry and harmony that are characteristic of this architectural style. Although specific architects are not known, their work is visible in every detail - from elegant window frames to carefully formed ceilings.

Tvrz Rymice witnessed the life of many key personalities. Albrecht z Valdštejna, a famous warlord and nobleman, married Lucrecia Nekšova of Landek, which was a significant connection between two powerful families. Václav Nekeš z Landeka and Prokop Podstatský z Prusinovic also played an important role in the history of this place.

Now look at the interesting thing that may surprise someone: on the second floor of the fort, a sugar factory was set up in the nineteenth century. However, this enterprise soon disappeared when local farmers refused to grow sugar beet, indicating a complex relationship between innovation and traditional practices.

I recommend you examine this historical monument thoroughly. In the vicinity there are other economic buildings such as granary and administrative object that can provide further insight into the past of this place. Tvrz Rymice awaits you with thousands of stories and sounds of ancient days.

Thank you for your visit to Rymice Chateau! I hope you enjoyed this guide and that you will continue to discover the beauty of our history.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is in the morning during the working week when you avoid crowds and enjoy the quiet atmosphere of the Renaissance residence. The details of the building facade stand out in the morning light.

The village of Rymice is easier to reach by car.

We recommend to wear comfortable shoes suitable for movement in the premises and courtyard. If you plan to photograph, the best pictures will be taken from the courtyard, where the light beautifully depicts the historical wall and architectural elements of the fortress.

In the immediate vicinity of the fort, you can explore historical economic buildings, granary and administrative buildings that illustrate life in the rural estate in the past.

The area is ideal for families with children due to its open space. Children can discover the corners of economic buildings and learn what the background of a noble residence looked like, which is a lesson in history.
