It is a place that once served as a symbol of power and security, and even though its function has changed radically over the years, its presence here still dominates.

Now let's move further into the past together and understand how this object came into being. To understand the meaning of this place, we have to go back to the 14th century. The first mention of the property associated with the name Vrchotice appeared in our sources in 1370. At that time, this territory belonged to the Vrchotic family of Vrchotic, a significant noble family whose name was closely linked to the region. Over time, however, the owners of this mansion changed, and so did the fate of the building itself. In 1457, a reference to the fortress itself appeared in the historical records, which was already the property of Adam from the Vrchotic family of Lutkov. Imagine that time when the fort was primarily a defensive point, a place that had to provide shelter and protection.

But now pay attention to what you see right now, because the appearance of the building does not correspond to its original medieval form. Although the fortress grew from its Gothic roots, its current character is the result of a fundamental transformation. One of the most important events in the history of this place occurred around 1603. The original Gothic object was then rebuilt into Renaissance style. This era brought a new order to architecture, an effort for harmony and greater comfort, which the ancient, barren medieval fortresses did not offer. Notice now the architecture of the building right in front of you. The main building has a rectangular plan and is single storey. Her face is connected to a massive, prismatic tower that acts as the unwavering guardian of the entire complex. This tower provides its characteristic silhouette profile, which can be seen from a distance and close by. Part of the whole is also a fenced wall and economic buildings, which together form one integrated whole. Even though the object is now used by a private company, its historical feel remains intact.

Looking at these walls, one cannot stop at the question of who lived in these areas and decided on the fate of the surroundings. History doesn't spare us the names of these people. We can remember Adam here from the Vrchotic family of Loutkov, who was one of the first to mention the fort in the written records. They also left a trail of other prominent personalities like Maxmilián Velemyský z Velemyšlevsi or Vilém Jindřich Mitrovský z Nemyšle. Each of these men saw this place differently, each of them put its own chapter in its history, whether in the form of asset management or building and expanding the mansion. Their lives were closely linked to the rhythm of this place and how the political and social situation in the kingdom at that time changed.

However, history is not just a story of growth and bloom. It's also a story about loss and how things change in time. Here is one of the most interesting and perhaps even a little sad chapters of this place. Imagine 1629. In the then springs, Vrchotice's fortress is referred to as a desolate place. What happened? Why did they stop living in these rooms? It was a time of uncertainty and unrest that struck many settlements across the country. But this state of the wasteland was not permanent, but followed by another major break. In 1700, there was some demolition of the fortress. What was once the proud seat of the nobles was partially destroyed during this period and the sailing yard was created in its place. This transformation from a military-occupied headquarters into purely economic traffic is a fascinating proof of how humanity's priorities change depending on the economic and political situation. The fort became part of agricultural traffic, a fate that could not escape many old buildings at that time.

Yet this monument persisted and was not forgotten because of its importance. Although it went through a period of decline and conversion into an economic court, its historical value was officially recognised in 1965 by being declared a cultural monument. That was the moment when it began to think about protecting it and how to preserve this piece of history for future generations. Today, when you're standing here, you see the result of a long process - a mixture of Gothic foundations, Renaissance elegance and subsequent economic adjustments.

Look at the line of that massive tower against the sky and try to imagine what this fortress looked like 400 years ago when it was in the greatest Renaissance glory. Feel the contrast between its fixed, prismatic structure and the calm that today rules this section of Sedlce-Prèice. Every stone here has its weight and every building in this complex is a witness of ancient times.
