Venturka Villa

Venturka is a historical site located in the village of Nový Bydžov, within the Hradec Králové District of the Královéhradecký Region in the Czech Republic. Originally an orchard with a guardhouse built by Dorota Venturová in the late 19th century, it evolved into a villa and later served as a guest house. Situated on the slope of Chlum hill, about 2.9 km east of Nový Bydžov's center, it is now part of an educational trail that highlights local history through informational boards. Despite its disrepair, Venturka remains notable for its historical significance and connection to regional development during a period of cultural change.

The origins of Venturka trace back to the late 19th century when Dorota Venturová owned an orchard on this site. She constructed a guardhouse within her orchard, which later became the foundation for further developments by her son, Hynek Ventura. After Dorota's death in 1875, Hynek took over the property and built a villa there. However, his life was cut short when he died in 1888 before seeing much of its potential realized.

Architecturally, Venturka began as an orchard with a simple guardhouse but transformed into a more substantial structure under Hynek Ventura's vision. The villa represented a shift from utilitarian agricultural use to residential and eventually commercial purposes. In 1905, the city of Nový Bydžov acquired the property at a public auction and converted it into a guest house. This change marked an attempt by local authorities to capitalize on its potential as a site for visitors, aligning with broader trends in urbanization and infrastructure development during Austro-Hungarian rule.

Ownership and administration of Venturka saw significant changes over time. Initially under Dorota Venturová's ownership until her death in 1875, the property passed to her son Hynek Ventura, who constructed a villa there. After his untimely death in 1888, the city of Nový Bydžov purchased the villa in 1905 and established it as a guest house. However, following World War II, the building fell into private hands and began to deteriorate, leading to its current state.

In 1889, a local beautification society planted linden trees near the site for visitors' enjoyment, reflecting community efforts to enhance the area's appeal.
