Villa Jan and Jaroslav Nováková in the village Černošice (district Praha- west) is an important example of Czech functionalism from the beginning of the 20th century. This cultural monument occupies its architectural solution and historical value, in which Le Corbusiera's influence on architect Karl Stadnik is evident. The building excels with a white functionalist style with original interior, while the garden of Pavel Smetana gives it another artistic dimension.

The foundation of the villa is closely related to the context of the 1920s, when the intensive search for new architectural forms took place. Karel Stádník, a pupil of Josef Gočár, designed in 1929 a summer villa project for high bank officials, brothers Jan and Jaroslav Novak. The inspiration was the Paris Cook house Le Corbusiera, which is evident in the composition of the building. The seat was originally summer, but after World War II the reconstruction adapted it to year-round use.

Architectural dominates white functionalism. The most distinctive part is the garden facade with terrace, which served to relax in the fresh air. The interior of the first floor preserved its original shape with a dominant hall and an iron staircase. The colour walls in these spaces reflect the influence of Le Corbusiera. Originally, the house was equipped with Thonet furniture, but after the war it replaced changes.

The owners, brothers Jan and Jaroslav Novák were among the modern art circle around Josef Gočár. They supported many modern painters, such as Alois Wachsmann or Emil Fill. After World War II the Novak family moved to the villa from Prague and since then the building is in the property of their descendants.

The garden designed by architect Pavel Smetana is also interesting. It was modified by artistic friends of owners. It contains a unique rock from Vincent Makovsky, Bedřich Stefan and Pavel Smetana, supplemented by a wide range of blooming plants all year round.

Today Jana and Jaroslav Nováková are one of the most important buildings in Chernošice. As a protected cultural monument, it retains its original form with minimal modifications. Visitors are attracted not only by the architecture of the villa, but also by its garden and artistic details.

The construction shows how modern architectural trends can be integrated into the Czech environment. Its history and design make it a valuable cultural heritage and inspiration for the people interested in the art of the 20th century. It's really worth exploring this important memory.

Welcome to the Blackies. You're standing in front of a building that's so much more than just a house for living. In front of your eyes, Villa number two hundred and fifteen, the real jewel of Czech architecture, will immediately welcome you with its purity and uncompromising expression of a new era. Notice the white color, the geometric accuracy and the incredible lightness this object emits. Even though this house is firmly anchored in the ground, it acts as if it were formed by pure light and air. It is this first impression, a sense of order and harmony, that is exactly what the creator was supposed to produce in 1929.

Let us now return in time to the moment this project was born. Imagine 1929. The world around us is going through huge changes, people are looking for new ways to live, to think and to see the space around them. For two brothers, John and Jaroslav Novak, this villa was a dream of modern, light and functional life. They wanted a summer mansion that wasn't just a decorative box, but it would fit their image of modern times. A man named Karel Stádník was behind all this. He was a talented architect who, at the time, was the ultimate generation of creators. As a pupil of the famous Josef Gočár, he carried a deep understanding of shape and space, but was not afraid to look far beyond the borders of our country.

Now pay attention to what you see right in front of you. This building is not the result of a random connection of walls and roofs. It is the triumph of Czech functionalism. If you look at the overall form of the villa, you will notice the absence of unnecessary ornaments. In this style, beauty is not based on carved ornaments or decorative realms, but on a clean line, on relationships between surfaces and how the building responds to light. Karel Stádník was deeply inspired by the ideas of the world's great architect Le Corbusier. It is the influence of his Paris home that is evident in this villa. Notice how the architect tried to create a space that is logical, clear and, above all, useful. Every element, every edge, and every area has a clear purpose here. This architecture doesn't play games, she just is. She's honest in her form and in the materials she uses.

When you look at this facade, try to imagine what lives were taking place inside this villa. This villa was not just a private sanctuary for the Novak brothers. It became part of a wider cultural and intellectual stream, which was strongly active in the Czech Republic at that time. It's fascinating to realize that there was probably the very tip of the art world in these areas. Imagine the discussions that could have taken place here, or the views of the art that surrounded its guests. Names like Alois Wachsmann, Adolf Hoffmeister, Emil Filla, František Muzika, František Tichý or Rudolf Kremlička are not just names in history textbooks. These are the people who shaped the soul of our culture, and this villa was an ideal environment for them. It's a place where art, architecture and modern lifestyle clash.

And that is where one of the greatest attractions of this place lies. This villa is not just a static monument to the past. It is a living proof of how much Czech architecture could have been in contact with world trends in the early twentieth century and yet retain its own unique identity. It is a fascinating bridge between Czech genius teaching and Paris avant-garde. The farmer was able to take the world idea and turn it into something that fit perfectly into the Czech landscape. And although time was changing, this villa kept its original form. Even its inner spaces, which are now protected as a cultural monument, have preserved their original face, which is absolutely exceptional in today's world. It's like a time machine that takes you right to the golden age of modern architecture.

Now, please, don't just end up looking at this one wall or one corner of the building. Continue walking and feel the atmosphere of the whole place. Watch how light changes depending on the angle you're looking at on the white wall. Feel the calm that radiates this place. This villa invites you to stop, relax and be inspired by its purity. Thank you for taking the time to explore this important place. We hope that this view of history and architecture has brought you new ideas. We will brighten up a pleasant continuing trip around and look forward to meeting you again at the next historical monument. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is morning or late afternoon hours. Soft light in these times best highlights clean lines and white areas of functionalist architecture that are typical of this building.

You can reach the villa by car or public transport; We recommend checking the actual connections and parking possibilities in the surrounding area in the current maps or search engines to make the journey as smooth as possible.

We recommend taking a photo machine and comfortable shoes with us. Since this is an architectural unique, you will appreciate the opportunity to document in detail the geometric shapes of the building and its original elements.

For the best pictures, focus on the contrast between the straight lines of the house and the surrounding greenery. The most striking light hits the facade depending on the position of the sun, allowing you to capture the shadow game on smooth walls.

Families with children can use a visit to an interactive game to find various geometrical shapes in architecture, which the children enjoy while secretly familiarizing them with the principles of modern construction.

Themed route

Villa No. 215 - historical villa The main destination of the route, an impressive villa from the late 19th century with rich architecture and preserved interior. The tour offers a view of the original facade, ornamental windows and historical details that reveal the life of the then nobles.

Tanks - open space After entering the villa you will find yourself in a spacious courtyard surrounded by columns and stone staircases. An ideal place to relax and soak up the atmosphere, where you can observe shadow games of light on historic stones.

Tower - architectural element From the courtyard there is a short path to a small tower that once served as an observation point. From the top you can see the surrounding gardens and part of the village Černošice, which provides a unique view of the historical environment.

Garden - park area Behind the tower is a carefully maintained garden with flower beds, ancient statues and shady alleys. Walk through the garden offers a quiet atmosphere and the possibility of admiring historical plants that complement the overall character of the villa.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring: Spring visit offers a view of the awakening nature around the villa. The light is fine in this period and highlights the details of the construction in the background of fresh leaves. We recommend arriving early in the morning when the air is the cleanest and garden the most lively. Prepare a lighter jacket because the morning cold can still smell.

Summer: In the summer months the villa is surrounded by dense greenery, which provides a pleasant shade. The sun shines most intensely, creating strong contrasts on the facade of the building. Due to the increased interest of visitors, we recommend arriving immediately after opening to avoid the largest groups of people. Dress lightly and don't forget enough fluids.

Autumn: Autumn brings a calm atmosphere and wonderful colours of gold and brown. The morning fog adds mystery to the surroundings of the villa and creates ideal conditions for photography. It is advisable to take warmer clothes and solid shoes for walking in leaves. There are fewer people in this period at the monument than in the main summer season.

Winter: Winter time turns the look of the villa into a rough picture with bare trees and quiet landscape. The atmosphere is relaxing, which allows you to perceive the construction without disturbing elements of vegetation. Since the days are short, plan to visit around noon so you have enough daylight left. Quality winter clothes and more layers are necessary.
