The set of water structures near Bohemian and Pertoltic in the district of Česká Lípa in the Liberec region consists primarily of Art Nouveau water from the beginning of the 20th century, together with spring, pit, shaft and pipe. The whole system was built for the water supply of the city of Záká and since 2014 it has been registered in the Central List of Real-Estate Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic.

The preparations for the construction of the water pipeline took place in the early 20th century. The final discussion took place in 1912 and on 23 May 1913 the political exhibition in Mimoni issued a water law permit. Project documentation was processed by L. Bill & Comp. from Decin-Podmokel. The investor of the construction was the town of Záká, which at the time belonged to the Habsburg Poverty. The water work was completed in 1913 with a total cost of CZK 124 499 and 77 pennies.

The water, built in late Art Nouveau style, is located at the north foot of the Bird Hill at an altitude of 293 meters. The core of the building consists of a reinforced concrete structure of the ground water tower, while the above-ground part is made of burnt bricks plastered with hard lime cement plaster. The entrance facade of the building is divided and decorated with decorative pilasters with Tuscan heads and ledge. On the corners of the object there are oblique pillars with geometric decoration at the top.

The interior includes an entrance communication room under which there is a reinforced concrete drain chamber with a shaft and iron steps on the wall. The floor is covered by square tiles with mosaic motifs, while the remains of geometric stucco decoration are preserved on the walls and ceiling. In the underground, the entrance room is connected to two valenas-sealed collection tank with a total volume of 250 m ³ water.

An integral part of the ensemble is a spring in the forest location of Čihadla in the territory of the village Pertoltice pod Ralskem, away from the water tower approximately 400 meters east. Under the terrain there is a steel concrete pit with access shaft and metal steps. The water is drawn from several meters of deep incisions through a steel pipe into a pit, which is divided by oblique bulkheads into four chambers. The water flows from the chambers into the pipeline leading to the water tower. The water distribution from the water tower to the Purge is only gravitational due to the position of the object.

In 1936 the construction was modified and the pipeline leading from the water tower to the city was reinforced. At the end of the 1980s, the tap water network was connected to the water catchment area of Lasvice. The existing water pipeline was then transferred back to the administration of the city of Záká by the North Bohemian Water and Sewerage. Around 2012, original metal valves and parts of pipes were stolen in the building, which had to be replaced by new plastic products.

The system remains fully functional and serves to supply water to the swimming pool in Pops. At the same time, it is maintained as a reserve for the failure of the main source of water from Lasvice. The water at the border of the forest and private pastures is freely accessible, but its interior is not secured. There is no public road to the building because local communication is interrupted in several places by bays or private land. In the vicinity there are three stops to the Educational Path of Bird's Hill - Bohatice with information boards, benches and tables.

Vodní stavby u Bohatic a Pertoltic is a unique testament to technical infrastructure in Art Nouveau style from the early 20th century. This monument offers an interesting view of historical water management and is a suitable goal for interested people in industrial architecture.

Welcome to a place where technical precision meets the calm of nature and history becomes a living part of everyday life. You are standing in front of a unique set of water structures near Bohemian and Pertoltic. You may not see monumental palaces or high towers at first sight, but what you see before you is a real engineering championship that has served people for centuries. Feel this atmosphere, feel the calm of the surroundings, and realize that right here, at this point, the path of water that feeds the surrounding communities begins.

Let us return together to the time when the world was changing and modern technology began to determine the quality of human life. Imagine 1913. The world was on the verge of great change then, and the need to ensure clean, reliable water for growing cities was absolutely essential. Just then, over a hundred years ago, this building was completed. The whole project of the water works required a considerable investment at the time, namely an hundred and twenty-four thousand four hundred ninety-nine crowns. This was a significant amount for the company at the time, reflecting the importance of the project for the city of Zákáká. Behind this ambitious plan were architects from L. Bill and their associates who were able to combine practical needs with aesthetic perception of the time.

Now pay attention to what you see right in front of you. This building is not just a simple technical object, but an example of Art Nouveau style, which at the time controlled architecture and sought beauty in organic lines and harmonization of materials. Although these are not decorative facades full of floral patterns, the overall character of the structures reflects the spirit of this era. Notice how different materials are connected here. The above-ground parts you can observe are built from burnt bricks, which adds total warmth and tradition. At the same time, however, beneath the surface, in the very heart of this system, the modern power of the time - the iron concrete construction of the terrestrial water tower is hidden. This combination of traditional brick craft and revolutionary concrete was a symbol of progress in 1913.

This whole file is not just one building but a complex, interconnected organism. Imagine the invisible net that stretches under your feet and around you. This system includes a spring, where water begins its journey, a sink, a shaft and a large pipe that connects everything. It's like one big, mechanical organism that's constantly pulsing through life. It was all designed to be safely guided and ready for immediate use.

Let's look at how this object changed over the years. History is not static and neither was this water system. In 1936 there was an important modification of the construction. At that time, engineers decided to strengthen the pipeline leading directly to the city to ensure even greater reliability and resilience of the system to increasing demands. This adjustment shows that the construction was initially thought to be a long-term, stable element of infrastructure. It is this stability and historical value that was recognised at the highest level in 2014. The set of water structures was included in the central list of real cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. That means we're not just protecting a simple technique, we're protecting a piece of our national heritage.

You might now wonder if this system is just a historical monument that people admire while they're walking. But the answer will surprise you. This water system is not a dead museum. It is a living, functional whole, which is still fully used. The water that flows through these ancient pipelines and is stored in these structures still serves to supply the local swimming pool in Zakopy. Imagine the continuity - every summer, when people come to the swimming pool, they use the invisible work of engineers from 1913. It is a fascinating combination of the past and the present, which is directly affecting the human joyous moment.

There is also a little mystery that you can imagine looking at these structures. Although we know the names of the architects who designed the work, the characters who participated in its daily operation throughout the century remain unknown in history. We don't know the faces of the workers who put down the first pipes at the time, nor the names of the maintenance workers who have been careful for decades to keep the water flowing continuously and without disturbances. It is this anonymity that gives the place some mysticism. It's thousands of unknown hands that kept this system going so it could serve you and your neighbors today.

Now that you know the story of this place, I suggest you stop and observe the surroundings for a while. Look at the details of the brick works, try to imagine how the water moves in the depths below you and how powerful this structure must be to last over a hundred years in such good condition. Feel the connection between human striving for progress and the natural power of water, which is the source of all life.

Thank you for sharing this story with us. We hope that this view of the water work at Bohemian and Pertoltic brought you new views and that you enjoyed the walk in this beautiful location. Please continue to explore the surroundings and enjoy the beauty of this place. Goodbye.
