Výšinné neopevněné halštatské sídliště Archaeological site
The archaeological site of the Halštat court near Štítar is located in the cadastral territory of Štátara nad Radbuzou near Hostěn in the district of Domažlice. It is a fortified high settlement from the iron age, important for traces of intense settlement and rich archaeological find.
The place was already inhabited in eneolithic, late Bronze and early Middle Ages. It was mostly inhabited here in the older iron age, namely in the 6th century B.C., when the Halštat court was created here.
The settlement was located on the island over the Mělnický creek northwest of the village Hostětice. The central part of the yard, bounded by the palisade, occupied an area of 40 × 47 metres in the western part of the island hall. The external defence consisted of two pairs of palliative belts with rectangular ground plan and rounded corners whose dimensions were 70 × 75 metres and 85 × 95 metres. East of this fortified courtyard, there was another settlement protected by a palisade crossing the island's neck in the north-south direction. In the vicinity of the south-eastern part of the complex were examined remains of ceramic kiln and several waste pits with fragments of large containers.
In the years 1988- 1992, rescue archaeological research was carried out on the site by Miroslav Chytráček. Research revealed the remains of shed buildings, fortifications and a series of artifacts. Among the objects found were ceramics from various periods, including late Stone Age, late Bronze Age and late Hallatite Age. In addition, animal bones, charred wood with pieces of lubricant, fragments of late-stone axe, needles and overcoat were found.
Since 2000, this archaeological site has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Only archaeological evidence is preserved from the original estate today.
This site represents an important evidence of the development of ancient settlements in the region. It is a place that allows you to see the history of the Halštat culture through documented building and craft tracks.

Let's go into history. This place was inhabited already in the age of eneolithic and later in the older iron age, namely the 6th century BC. Let's take a closer look at the housing situation. It was located on an island over the Málnický creek, which gave it a strategic advantage for the population. This natural flow of water was important both for everyday life and for the protection of the settlement.
This place is really full of secrets and stories. Although we are not all aware of the details of how people lived on this estate, every piece of the artifact is an important witness to their lives and skills.

The sun rays are shorter, but their warm lighting gives the ruins a romantic character. It is advisable to visit the place at noon where the sun is brightest and you can enjoy the beauty of colored leaves. We recommend wearing warmer clothes such as jackets and blankets, and getting ready for morning cold drapes.
