Bezno Castle stands on the edge of the village of Bezno in the Mladá Boleslav district. Since 1967 it has been protected as a cultural monument.
The village is first mentioned in writing in the years 1050 and 1088. However, a noble residence does not appear until 1369, in the title of Bohuněk from Libiš and Bezno. Two years later, Bohuněk is recorded as the owner of a stronghold called Velký dvůr. Property relations in the fourteenth century were very complicated in Bezno. Besides the nobles of Bezno, landowners from Libiš, Kováň and Haček and the lords from Zvířetice also had estates there. In the village there were apparently several noble courts and some of them may have had fortifications.
The Bzenští z Prorubě family is most frequently connected with Bezno, especially from the mid-fifteenth century until 1694. Written sources from this period mention at least three fortifications in the village, including Velkodvorská. By 1694 they mention two poorly documented fortifications and three courts. Not much else is known about the oldest form of the residence.
In 1724, Jan Jáchym Pachta from Rájov purchased the estate. His son František Josef had a castle built between 1742 and 1750 in place of the Velkodvorská stronghold. The fortification was demolished and today it is only recalled by a cellar with pillars beneath the main castle building. In 1770, side wings were added to this building according to plans designed by Heger. After a fire in 1817, the castle was restored to its original appearance.
