Zámek Mcely stands as a testament to both historical grandeur and modern luxury, located in the village of Mcely within Nymburk District, Středočeský kraj. Originally constructed in 1698 by Count Oktavián Ladislav z Valdštejna as a Baroque hunting lodge, it has evolved into Château Mcely, a five-star hotel renowned for its commitment to sustainability and elegance. The origins of Zámek Mcely date back to the late 17th century when Count Oktavián Ladislav z Valdštejna commissioned its construction. Situated on a hill known as Vinice above the village of Mcely, it was built over what was once a Celtic settlement. Initially serving as a hunting lodge surrounded by an extensive garden and animal park spanning approximately five hectares, this period marked the flourishing of Baroque architecture in Europe, characterized by grandeur and elaborate detail reflected in the chateau’s design.

Architecturally, Zámek Mcely began as a single-story structure but underwent significant transformations over the centuries. In 1840, it expanded into a more complex building, and by 1863, two three-story side wings were added to enhance its grandeur. Despite periods of neglect in the early 20th century leading to partial destruction, the chateau has been meticulously restored since 2001 under the ownership of James A. Cusumano and his wife Inez.

Ownership of Zámek Mcely has seen several notable transitions. Initially belonging to Count Oktavián Ladislav z Valdštejna until 1945, it was then held by the Thurn-Taxis family. From 1939 to 1945, Italian Prince Luigi della Torre e Tasso and his wife Fanny Goodyear resided there. Following World War II and the rise of communism in Czechoslovakia, they were forced to leave, leading to a period where the chateau was nationalized and fell into disrepair. In 2001, it was acquired by Cusumano and Inez, who transformed it into the luxury hotel known today.

Throughout its history, Zámek Mcely has been a site of significant events and curiosities. The chateau's park features a notable large-leaved oak (Quercus macranthera), adding to its natural charm. In 2008, Château Mcely was awarded the World Travel Awards for 'Green Hotels,' recognizing its commitment to environmental sustainability.
