zámek Nové Zámky (Nové Zámky) Chateau

Nové Zámky, also called Nový zámek, is located near Dolní Olešnice in the Trutnov district. It stands on a hilltop above the right bank of the Labe River near the settlement of Vestřev. The castle complex with its English park is protected as a cultural monument.

The Renaissance castle began to be built by Jindřich z Valdštejna after 1590. He did not live to see its completion, dying in 1600. The estate was managed for his widow Magdaléna z Donína and her children by Hanibal z Valdštejna. The construction ended probably in 1607 and 1608. At that time, Hanibal began using the phrase "at the new castle" in reference to his residence. In 1611, the name Nové Zámky appears for the first time, until then the seat was called the Olešnice castle. It was a single-storey building with two wings.

Zdeněk z Valdštejna took over the property after 1615. Due to his participation in the Estates' Rebellion, he lost half his wealth and with it the castle. The confiscated property was purchased by Albrecht z Valdštejna and attached to the Frýdlant principality. In 1624, he sold it back to Zdeněk as a manor. However, after Zdeněk's death, he seized it again and in 1633 gave it as a fief to Vilém Lamboy z Desenersu. It was payment for his military service. Lamboy later managed to have the estate transferred to hereditary ownership and combined it with Hostinné into one estate. After his death, the property was cared for by widows and guardians of his minor heirs, and the line soon died out. Disputes over the dowry were finally settled by the court in 1684, which awarded Olešnice to Anna Františka z Martinic.

After that, the owners changed frequently, among them were the Kinský family. In 1799, Count František Deym ze Stříteže purchased the estate. It belonged to his family until the twentieth century, and the Deym family rebuilt the castle into its present form. They themselves occupied only a smaller part of the building, with officials residing in the rest. In the second half of the twentieth century, an eye clinic operated here.

In 2007, the castle was purchased by Russian businessman Alexej Zacharov, who began acquiring surrounding plots of land. His dispute with the owner of the neighboring market garden culminated in an attack on the gardener by Zacharov's security staff. Based on this story, director Jiří Havelka made the film Zahradníkův rok with Oldřich Kaiser in the leading role. The film premiered in 2024. In May 2025, the castle complex along with adjoining plots appeared on the market for sale.
