Zámek Rudník, now known as Pivovar Rudník, is a historical monument located in the village of Rudník within Královéhradecký kraj. Originally constructed as a Renaissance castle by Hanibal von Wallenstein and his wife Kateřina Berka of Dubá at the turn of the 17th century, it was later transformed into a brewery in the early 19th century. This site is notable for its architectural evolution from a noble residence to an industrial facility, reflecting broader historical shifts in land use and ownership.

The origins of Zámek Rudník trace back to the late Renaissance period when Hanibal von Wallenstein, serving as the highest mint master of the Czech Kingdom, commissioned the construction of this castle. The structure was first documented in 1615, marking its significance during a time when Bohemia was part of the Habsburg Monarchy. This era was characterized by political and cultural developments that influenced architectural styles across Europe.

Architecturally, Zámek Rudník began as a Renaissance castle, showcasing elements typical of the period before being converted into a brewery around 1813/1815/1816 under Josef Karl von Silberstein. The transformation included modern facilities for its time, such as reinforced concrete fermentation tanks and an electric-powered cooperage. Further modernization occurred in 1888 when Josef Kluge took ownership, enhancing production capabilities significantly.

Ownership of the site has seen several notable changes. After its conversion into a brewery, it was modernized under Josef Kluge's leadership, increasing production to around 10,000 hectoliters annually by the early 20th century. Following World War I, production peaked at approximately 20,000 hectoliters before declining during the war and stabilizing post-war. Post-1945, the brewery was nationalized and integrated into Hradecké pivovary, with operations ceasing in 1951. It remained under state control until 1989.

Throughout its history, Pivovar Rudník has witnessed significant events that underscore its transformation from a noble residence to an industrial site. The conversion into a brewery marked a shift towards modernization and increased production capacity, reflecting broader economic trends of the time. Despite these changes, the site retains valuable Renaissance vaults and sgraffito decorations, along with four boundary markers/foundation plaques embedded in the walls of its economic building.

Today, Pivovar Rudník stands as a cultural monument, declared as such on January 20, 1992. Although it is privately owned and currently unused, leading to deterioration, efforts have been made towards its preservation. In 2013, an initiative emerged for its rescue, culminating in partial emergency repairs to the roof of the cooling house building in 2019. Plans by architect Josef Smutný and Ilex Architects aim to transform the site into a Czech Centre for Architecture while converting other buildings into apartments and shops.

Pivovar Rudník offers visitors a glimpse into the architectural and industrial history of the region, set against the picturesque backdrop of Bolkovský potok and its tributary near the Church of St. Wenceslas.
