Závojského vila Museum

Závojského vila, also known as Koldova Villa, is a cultural monument located in the village of Doubravník in the Brno district. This Art Nouveau building built in 1912 represents an architectural rarity in the region and has been officially protected as a cultural monument since 2020. The villa is not only a historical monument, but also a place with a rich past that deserves the attention of visitors.

The creation of the Zavoy villa dates back to 1912 when Felix Závojský built it. The construction company was the company of Mr Hykrda from Tišnov and the construction was carried out in Art Nouveau style, making it unique in Doubravník and surrounding areas. After Felix Zavoya's death in 1921, he transferred the property to Karl Zofka and was then purchased by Jan Kolda, who lived in the villa for more than 20 years. After his death in 1958, he referred the villa to the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, which did not care about maintaining it and the building fell through the state. In 1959 it was handed over to the municipality of Doubravník.

Architecture Zavoy villas are characteristic of Art Nouveau style, which makes it significant not only in terms of history, but also in terms of architecture. The construction was designed to harmonically fit into the surrounding landscape and attract attention with its elegant forms and details.

The history of ownership and management of the villa is rich in change. It was followed by Karel Žofka, Jan Kolda and finally the Academy of Agricultural Sciences. In 1959, the administration switched to the municipality of Doubravník, which placed various institutions in the building as a kindergarten, archive and doctor's practice. These changes led to several modifications in the interior, but in 2006 the new building was separated from the villa.

The key moment in the history of the villa is the opening of the monument of the academic Kolda in 1968. This monument, located in the attic of the building, together with the petrographic collection Stanislav Vosyka and the gifts of František Jelínek, attracts special attention to visitors. The reconstruction of the roof in 2007 and the transfer of the municipal library to the building in 2009 further strengthened its historical value.

Today, Zavoy Villa is a place where history and the present meet. The villa serves as a monument to the academic Kolda and the municipal library, which makes it an important cultural centre for locals and visitors. Its protection as a cultural monument since 2020 ensures its historical and architectural importance for future generations.
