Bečvářův dvůr Homestead

Bečvářův dvůr at Starostrický 16 / 25 in Prague 10-Strašnice is a three-wing homestead of classical style. It was created together with no longer existing Bečvářová villa and represents the only preserved example of the economic architecture of old Strašnice.

The farmhouse grew up in the place of the medieval sailing yard with a fortress. He acquired his present form around 1830 when the owner Josef Popelář built it in the classical style. However, the estate retained its name after Thomas Bečvář, who became its owner in 1862. The Bečvář was one of the largest operators of the Strašnic period - he owned half of the local fields and his property spread across the territory of today's Strašnic, Žizkov, Malešic and Vršovice.

The property was inherited by Bečvář's son Julius, who in 1926 decided to divide it among his three descendants. Daughter Anne was to receive a court and a house in Old Town as dowry, which was also confirmed in Julia Bečvář's will in 1945. After 1948, however, all family property was expropriated. The farm buildings went to the administration of the state farm Praha, the yard was set up with flats and the estate was built on the grounds of Solidarity.

Anna Bečvářová lived here for 39 years. After her death in 1987, she bequeathed the property to the friends of her late husband - the local teacher František Činčera and builder Stephen Forman, who she met through the local garden club. In the 1990s, these men were legally restituted.

The construction is storey with sealed rooms on the ground floor. The characteristic element is the late-classicist facade on the east side, dominated by a low central risalite with a triangular shield. The interesting thing is that the building was originally under the dam of the pond, which was later buried. Today, Gutovka is in his place.

Since 1964, the Court has been protected as a cultural monument. It remains a testament to the economic past of Strašnice and also a symbol of the complex fate of property during the 20th century.
