Handless orchards in Vinohrady are a park with a rich history, which dates back to the turn of the 19th and 20th century, when the original orchards were gradually created here. In 1928 they were named after the Czech literary personality - poet Peter Bezruča. Long years represented a larger green space, which spread across the territory of two Prague parts, Prague 2 and Prague 10.

The fundamental change came in 2016 when the sets were shared. The upper, northerner part belonging to the administration of Prague 2 was separated and received a new name - thus became the set of Brothers of the Chapka. The remaining southern part remained as a separate set of Bezručová in the competence of Prague 10. This distribution significantly changed the appearance and extent of the original park. Today, the current Nezručová orchards are a long and elongated territory situated exactly where we see it - in a pleasant slope between Slovak street and more sharply bound French street.

As part of this historical development, the bronze bust of Petr Bezruč himself was originally located in the upper part of the park, created by sculptor Jaroslav Lukešová in 1967. This bust was located near U Vodárny Street, but since it was located in the part that separated, it is not now part of the Centre Handless Sets.

In today's form, the sets of live spaces are mainly designed for local surroundings. In the western part, visitors will find a workout of the playground and children's playground, making the park an attractive place for families with children and sports players. The Bohemian Sports Hall is situated in the northeast corner, which complements the offer of activities in this place. The sets serve as green lungs and a meeting place for ordinary walks and recreation in Vinohrady.

Bezručovy sady is a park in the Prague Vinohrady district, in the Prague 10 municipal area. It extends on a slope between Francouzská and Slovenská streets.

The current appearance of the park is relatively new. Until 2016, the grounds were more than twice as large and were located in two municipal areas, Prague 2 and Prague 10. The upper, northern part, which was managed by Prague 2, separated at that time and received the name Bratří Čapků sady. The part that belongs to Prague 10 retained its original name.

The grounds in these locations were created at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In 1928, they were named after the poet Petr Bezruč. In the upper part of the original park, near U Vodárny street, stood his bronze bust. It was created by sculptor Jaroslava Lukešová in 1967.

The current Bezručovy sady are therefore the southern, elongated part of the former park. The slope here descends between Slovenská street and Francouzská street, which drops more steeply. In the western corner of the park is an outdoor fitness area and a children's playground. In the northeastern corner lies the sports hall complex Bohemians.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit Handless orchards is in spring or autumn when the park is full of green and flowers, but it is not yet too busy. In summer there is a pleasant shade of trees and the possibility to relax on benches. In winter it offers a quiet environment and the possibility to observe the snow landscape. It is recommended to leave early in the morning or afternoon to avoid major activity.

It is recommended to use public transport such as trams or buses which stop nearby. The place is also well accessible by foot from the centre of Prague.

When visiting Handless Sets, take comfortable shoes because the park is located in the slope and some parts are uneven. It is also advisable to take a small bag with a drink and perhaps a light snack, because there are no refreshments stands in the park. It is also appropriate to take a map or mobile application with navigation to make it easier to navigate.

Photography in Handless Sets is very pleasant, especially in sunny weather. The best places for photos are areas overlooking the surrounding streets and buildings, for example from higher parks. It is recommended to photograph in the morning or afternoon light when the light is softer and more pleasant. It is also appropriate to use the natural shadows of trees for more interesting compositions.

In the vicinity of the Handless orchards, it is worth visiting the set of Brothers of the Chaps, which are located in the neighbourhood on the north side. These sets offer additional quiet spaces and the possibility of walking. In the northeast corner of the park there is a Sports Hall Bohemian, which can be interesting for visiting sports events or as a place for a short break. Both of these places are available on foot in a few minutes

For families with children, Toothless sets are the ideal place for active rest. Children can play on free areas and discover nature. It is convenient to bring toys for outdoor games or small ball. Children will also find interesting trees and plants in the park that can observe and learn about them. It is also recommended to take some small drawing or painting tools so that children can create their own sights from the visit.

For kids

Imagine going back to when Praha was still a small village in Šumava. The handless orchards, where you can relax and play today, were the woods and meadows where people used to feed on pasture.

At that time, there were many people around who lived for a living through agriculture and animal husbandry. The woods were filled with wild animals, such as deer, deer and storks. People here were also looking for wood to build houses and tools for their shops.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring The handless orchard in the spring months awakens to life with its green garment when the first leaves melt between the old trees and spring plants like apple tree or cherry tree blossom. The sun rises slowly here, but its rays illuminate the park with golden light, which attracts walking on narrow paths and sitting on benches under flowering bushes. The atmosphere is light, almost magical, as if time was running slower here. In this period the park is an ideal place for lovers of photography because the contrast between green grass and white flowers creates picturesque scenery. I recommend visiting the orchards early in the morning when it is still cold and the crowds are minimal. Light clothes are suitable, but don't forget a light sweater or coat because the morning wind can be cool. If you are going to stay longer, take an umbrella - spring weather is known for its sudden showers.

Summer In the summer months, Bezruč's orchards turn into a refreshing escape from city interference. The shady alleys and vast meadows offer escape from the heat, while the air is soiled by the scent of flower and green. The sun shines intensively, but thanks to the shady places under the trees, you can relax from the direct sun. The atmosphere is lively and full of sounds - the rustling of leaves, the singing of birds and the occasional rustling of children's voices from nearby playgrounds. In the main summer season, the park is often visited by families and picnic lovers, so it is worth coming before 10 o'clock to ensure a quiet place. Light, airy clothes are suitable, but don't forget your hat or sunglasses. Take plenty of water with you because it is not always easy to find shadows in the park.

Autumn Autumn without hand sets are like painted landscapes where leaves on trees change colors from yellow to orange and red. The sun sets here earlier, and that's why the park will turn into a place full of golden light, which attracts long walks. The atmosphere is calm and reflective, as if time stood still for a while. The air is colder, but pleasant, and on the road, the leaves that rustle under the shoes disperse. In this period the park is less visited, which allows a quiet visit. Warmer clothes are suitable, but don't forget the light sweater, because evenings can be cold. If you are going to visit in November, prepare for rainy days - autumn weather is variable.

Winter In the winter months, Bezručová's sets will turn into a quiet and quiet place where you can relax from the urban rush. The snow blanket that may appear here gives the park a magical atmosphere, while the trees stand like decorative statues. The sun shines weak here, but its rays reflect off the snow and create picturesque scenery. The atmosphere is calm and quiet, ideal for meditation or walking with family. Hot clothes, including warm shoes and gloves, are suitable because winter weather can be cold. If you are going to visit in December, prepare for short days - the sun is setting already around 15 hours.
