The Městská spořitelna a muzeum in Železný Brod is a notable functionalist building serving as both a savings bank and museum. Situated on the northeast part of the square, it was constructed between 1934 and 1936. Its significance lies in its dual function, historical context, and artistic elements, reflecting Czechoslovakia's early 20th-century modernization efforts.

The site's origins trace back to the early 19th century when the first museum on the square was established in 1860, though at a different location. By the early 20th century, plans emerged to build a new savings bank where three historic wooden structures known as Klemencovsko stood since 1792. The Železný Brod Savings Bank acquired the land in 1924 with intentions of constructing this modern institution. However, efforts to preserve these older buildings faced opposition from cultural preservation groups. An architectural competition held in 1931 was won by architects Jindřich Freiwald and Jaroslav Böhm, whose design replaced the wooden structures with a contemporary brick building.

The architecture is characterized by its functionalist style. The non-rectangular corner building features a two-story cubic form clad in brick from the first floor upwards. A distinctive element is the protruding section on the western facade, while the eastern entrance is marked by a terrace dominated by sculptures: "Práce" (Work) by Jaroslav Brychta and "Spořivost" (Savings) by Ladislav Přenosil. The western facade incorporates elements from the original Klemencovsko structure, including its wooden gable.

The interior has been largely preserved, showcasing contributions from students and professors of the local glassmaking school. Noteworthy features include engraved glass with inscriptions like "KDO ŠETŘÍ MÁ ZA TŘI" in the vaulted area, a glass fountain by Alois Metelák in the courtyard, and a mosaic depicting a glassmaker designed by Jan Tumpach based on Oldřich Žáka's concept. These artistic elements highlight the region's cultural heritage.

Ownership and administration have evolved over time. The building initially served as a savings bank upon its completion in 1936 but also began functioning as a municipal museum shortly thereafter. Following the Velvet Revolution, the museum expanded within the premises, which now also houses an information center and a branch of Česká spořitelna.

Today, Městská spořitelna a muzeum stands as a testament to both architectural innovation and cultural preservation in Železný Brod.
