Burgberk in the Royal Poříčí is a preserved high settlement from the younger Bronze Age. It is located in the village Královské Poříčí in the district of Sokolov and is one of the protected cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. Its importance is underlined by the preserved moat and findings from approximately 1600- 700 years before AD.

Research from the 1980s revealed a residential building and stone tools from mesolite, which proves the long-term settlement of the site. The strategic location at the elevated location suggests that it may have served as a residential centre with a defensive function. Archaeological findings, including pottery from the high to late Middle Ages, confirm that the site was probably used in other periods.

The ditch that surrounded the estate protected against adverse weather or attacks. The mesolithic instruments show that the settlement extends far beyond the Bronze Age. The precise information about the landlord is missing, but its importance for the study of settlement is obvious.

Today Burgberk is protected as a cultural monument, which ensures its preservation. Access to the site is possible, but visitors should check the current conditions at the National Heritage Institute. The monument offers a view of the past and is an interesting example of how people used natural conditions for permanent residences.

Welcome to the Royal Order. You're standing right where the history of this region touches deep time. There is a landscape in front of you that, at first glance, seems calm and unreal, but that actually hides a secret that is several millennia old. This place is not a common monument with stone walls that you can explore and touch. It's an archaeological site called Burgberk, which is a high-rise settlement whose tracks have been preserved in the field. Look around you. Notice how the earth rises slightly as if it formed a natural defense. Right here, in this high place, in ancient times, people gathered to live, work and protect themselves from danger. The atmosphere of this place is quiet, but full of stories waiting to be heard. Now that your headphones are on, let me show you what happened here and help you see what's now hidden under a layer of time and vegetation. Let's focus first on who actually lived here and when. Burgberk is proof of the existence of a settlement from the younger Bronze Age. This era, which lasted from around the thirteenth to the ninth century BC, was a time of great change for Europe. People no longer used only stone and bone, but discovered and began processing metal, namely bronze. This allowed them to produce better weapons, tools and dishes. They were people who were no longer just hunters and gatherers, but settled in more permanent places, growing crops and breeding cattle. The choice of this particular location on Burgberk was not random. The high estate offered natural defence. The increased location allowed you to see enemies from a distance while providing better access to water and pastures in the valley. It was a place where they felt safer than in the lowlands, where they were exposed to greater risks. Now pay attention to what you can see around you. Even though there are no stone walls around you, the terrain itself tells its story. A moat is the key element that has survived here. This moat is not just a simple incision in the ground. It was an important defense element that protected the settlement. Imagine what this ditch would look like in full operation. It would be deep and wide, perhaps filled with water, or at least so difficult to overcome that the enemy would need a long time to reach the walls. Today, you can see his outlines in the field, gently blaming himself around the estate. It's some sort of invisible circle that used to separate the world inside the settlement from the outside world. When you look at this ditch, you can imagine how people lived here who realized the value of safety and stability. The archaeological research that took place in 1985 brought to light further evidence of life in this place. During this research, the location of the residential building was revealed. Even if today you see only the ground and maybe some evidence of a dig, imagine that there was a building where people slept, ate and spent their free time. It was probably a simple building, built from available materials like wood, dirt and grass, which had fallen apart over time and returned to the ground. But her tracks remained. In addition to the residential building were also found mesolitic stone tools. That's a very interesting fact, because the mesolite is a period older than the Bronze Age. This means that this place was inhabited or visited much earlier, even when people lived as hunters and collectors and used only stone tools. In this way, a picture of a place that had a long tradition of human settlement opens up. People have been coming back here for centuries, maybe even thousands of years, because they found what they needed to survive here. An interesting feature of this site is also the presence of ceramic fragments from the high to late Middle Ages. This suggests that the site was not abandoned after the bronze age. On the contrary, there could be further use, perhaps as pastures, or as a place for short stays. Ceramics is an important indicator of human presence because it is durable and can survive thousands of years in the country. Finding these fragments tells us that Burgberk's history is much richer and more complex than it would seem at first glance. It is not just one bronze-age settlement, but a place with a long and smooth tradition that dates from ancient times to the Middle Ages. This makes this place a unique historical pedestal, where different times of human development overlap. If you look around you, try to imagine what this space would look like at different times. In the mesolite, there might be simple shelters where hunters rested after a day in the forest. At the time of bronze, there would be a settlement with a moat where bronze was forged and crops were grown. In the Middle Ages, there might be herds or farmers coming here to harvest crops. Each of these eels has contributed to the creation of what you see here today. Even though there doesn't seem to be anything here, there's actually a lot of clues waiting to be deciphered. This place is a protected cultural monument of the Czech Republic, which means that it is protected by the state and cannot be destroyed or changed for no reason. It's proof of how important it is to preserve our history and remember those who lived here before us. When you walk past a ditch, consider the strength that whoever dug it must have had. It was a job that required a lot of time and effort, but that was necessary to survive the settlement. Today, when we live in a time when security is often given by technology and state institutions, it is hard to imagine how important physical defense for survival was. When you walk around this place you can see how light and shadows change. In the morning and evening, Burgberk may look very different from noon. Try to find a place where you feel most at ease, and stop there. Listen to the sounds of nature, birds, wind blowing over the top of the hill. Try to imagine what it would sound like to talk about people, to hear the sound of a hammer beating into metal, to hear the chattering of children. Even though these people are long gone, their presence here still resonates. It's like the air itself is carrying their stories. There is no particular historical personality that is directly associated with this place, and that is also its charm. It's not the palace of a king or the house of a famous artist, but the place where ordinary people lived, who formed the basis of our civilization. Their names don't go
