Dům čp. 28 (Kadaň) House
The House of Lazebník (No. 28) in the Old Town of Kadani is one of the oldest preserved urban buildings in the city. It is located in the street of the Czechoslovak Army. It is important in its long history, architectural elements and in a unique way to show the number of descriptive right on the facade.
The building is first mentioned in the town papers in 1565. Since the foundations and surrounding buildings are originally Gothic, the history of the building is probably two to three centuries further. The street where the house is used to be called Bakery. It formed the main centre of the bakery guild, whose existence in Kadani is documented from the mid-15th century.
Over the centuries, the building has undergone many reconstructions that were necessary after several devastating fires. Nevertheless, due to considerate reconstruction, it retains a number of historical elements. There is a descriptive number 28 directly on the facade above the entrance portal. This method of marking probably comes from the late 18th century and represents a unique proof of the oldest history of house numbering in this area. According to the legend, Empress Marie Theresa decided to have a number system after her carriage in Vienna had wandered unsuccessfully in an attempt to find a house marked only by an ancient home sign.
Dějiny majitelů jsou spjaty s různými řemesly a společenským postavením. V roce 1597 zde provozoval lazebnictví Johann Milch a o dva roky později zde působil Friedrich Gross, který v domě i zemřel. V druhé polovině 17. století patřil objekt městskému radnímu Matesovi Falckovi, jenž jej v roce 1688 prodal Johannu Andreasovi Grimmichovi. Následně dům vlastnili lazebník Johann Ernst Schuldes a krejčovský mistr Johann Christoph Sander, představený zdejšího krejčovského cechu. V roce 1770 jej zakoupil soukenický mistr Ignaz Kautzner. Později se v budově zřídil pivovar; v roce 1788 jej i s pivovarnickým náčiním koupil mistr cechu soukenického Josef Reichel. Dalším vlastníkem byl tkalcovský mistr Anton Wollmann. Na konci 19. století byli spolumajiteli Isak Löwi a Isak Löbl. V roce 1911 dům přebrali Anna Kadaniková a její manžel Josef. Po roce 1945 byl objekt konfiskován obnoveným československým státem, neboť Anna a její dcera byly vyvedeny ze země jako Němky. Jako správkyně jej v roce 1946 převzala Františka Krčmářová.
The building faced many fire tests that were typical of the then urban development. In 1498 and 1537, almost the entire Bakery Street burned down. In 1635, the building was damaged by a large fire during the Thirty Years' War. Another devastating fire hit the house in 1786 and 1811. The other was the biggest in the history of the city; within five hours, approximately 500 buildings, including city hall, castle and monastery burned down.
Today, the Lazebník House is protected as a cultural monument. He is a rare witness to urban life who has preserved his historical face despite the tragic events of the past. It is worth a visit as proof of the continuity of Kadan history.
