Dům Jiráskovo náměstí 1 Tenement house

The rental house No. 2014 at Jiráskov Square 1 in Prague is a neobarical building from 1906, which forms a unified architectural complex with the neighbouring house No. 2013. His address is also indicated as Masaryk's waterfront 2 and the object is important with its rich facade and solution that reflects the aesthetic directions at the time.

The building was built according to the design of architect František Siskra as part of the reconstruction of the waterfront. At the time of its construction, intensive modernization and industrialization took place in the Czech Republic, which was reflected in the architecture, which responded to history in new directions such as Art Nouveau.

It is a six-storey underpanded building with a saddle roof and rounded corners. The most significant element is the corner risalite with a tower with onion beating. The facade is decorated with storey windows, balconies with metal railing and columns with composite headers. Decorative elements include Atlantic sculptures inspired by the Vaennese palaces. The original shields of the attic buildings are connected to the Czech Dientzenhofer Baroque. The original arched corridors and two-arm staircases with decorative metal railing and door frames were preserved in the interior.

The likely first owner of the house was František Jiskra. During the 20th century, the building underwent several building modifications in 1908-1909, 1913, 1917, 1929, 1935, 1959, 1963 and 1967, when the attic was built, and also in the 1990s.

The house was listed as a cultural monument in 2000. The whole building is part of the Prague Heritage Reservation, which is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

This rental house represents an important example of architecture from the beginning of the 20th century within the historical centre of Prague and is an interesting goal for anyone who wants to get to know details of the neobarical style and historical development of the waterfront.
