Egermannův dům in the village Kadaň is originally a Gothic townhouse from the 14th century, which now serves as a tourist information centre. The building is dominated by Jan Šverma Street and stands out with a rich architectural layer from Gothic to Baroque to Empire.

The core of the building dates back to the 14th century. In town papers, the house is first mentioned in 1637, when it was purchased by Kadani citizen Hans Höfer along with a barn building in New Town at the Holy Gate. During the Thirty Years' War, the object was damaged several times.

The building development of the house reflects various historical periods. The original Gothic character was gradually supplemented by Renaissance and Baroque reconstruction. Around 1750, the owner Kajetan Egermann had a large reconstruction carried out in the late Baroque and rococo styles. An important element is the stucco facade, the manuscript of architect Johann Christoph Kosch. After the great fire of the city in 1811, the first floor was supplemented by an empirical painting with imaginary landscapes and figures in rich decor. The shield of the house is decorated with a triangular tympan with three antikising female busts and another female head at the top of the facade, which represents the transition from rococo to classicism. The shield has vertical sun clock. Above the main portal is a stylized number seven, probably from after 1811, which serves as a rare proof of early numbering of houses in Kadani.

After Hans Höfer's house between 1679 and 1695 was owned by Johann Christoph Patzelt, who made the necessary repairs. The 1719 report describes the house as Klier's and describes it as a legal house with field, vineyard and kit accessories. From 1750 to 1873 he was held by the Egermann family, hence the current name. In 1873 Anton Schubert bought it, which ran a colonial goods store and in 1899 he had made wooden interpretations which are preserved to this day. Other repairs took place in 1902 and 1915. The last businessman in the house was Svet Materna, who after World War II carried his shoe factory from Vienna to Kadana. After a communist coup in 1948, he lost his business and worked here as a monster for the rest of his life.

The house also performed public functions. In 1760, there was a collection of letters, a post office, whose messenger was subject to office in Žatec. In February 1990, namely February 12, the building was visited by Václav Havel during his presidential trip. Since the 1960s, the house has been dilapidated and there was a fishing and fish shop at some time.

In 2002 the house was purchased by the city of Kadaň. After extensive repairs there is now a tourist information centre and Gallery Karl Havlíček. The premises are also used by the Department of Education, Culture and Sport of the Municipal Office in Kadani.

Egermannův dům presents a unique architectural record of the development of the Kadani township. It's a place where the history of crafts, shops, and the government blends. The visit to this building offers a deeper insight into the historical identity of the city.

Welcome to the historic heart of Kadaň. You are standing in front of one of the most important and beautiful building buildings in this part of town, right in the street of Jan Šverma. In front of your eyes is Egermannův dům, a building that is much more than a set of walls and roofs. He is a living witness to history that carries traces of centuries and countless human destinies that have taken place in these walls here. The first impression left by this building is undoubtedly its dignity and richness, which dominates the whole area with its presence. Although at first glance it may seem like a single whole, it is in fact an old book whose pages have been gradually rewritten for centuries, each new chapter adding new meaning and new appearance to the building.

Let us now go back together deep into the past to understand where this house originated from and how it formed. Its roots go back to the 14th century. At that time, this object was originally a Gothic townhouse. Imagine life then, the Middle Ages, when cities were built with a different rhythm and a different face. This house has since its beginnings been intended for trade and housing, which was typical of the rich people of the time. Although time was changing relentlessly, the house remained here and resisted all the pitfalls. But he also had to face very difficult and dark times. One of the biggest tests for this building was a 30-year war that brought destruction and damage to many buildings throughout the region. This house was also hit at the time and had to go through repairs to continue to serve its owners and the urban community. This resistance you feel in his stones is proof of his resilience.

Now, when we think about the people who shaped this house and who imprinted it today's character, we come across fascinating characters. In 16 hundred and 37, the house became the property of a man named Hans Höfer. He was a prominent Kadan townsman who at that time perceived the value of this place and its strategic location. The house was a symbol of stability and success for him. But the story never stopped. Another key name you need to know is Kajetan Egermann. He was a very important kadani businessman who decided, around seven hundred and fifty, that the house would give a whole new form. It is thanks to his decision and extensive reconstruction that the construction has acquired the bright and rich look that you are now observing. Egermann was a man of great imagination, and that is clearly reflected on the house.

Now please look carefully at the facade of the house. What you're seeing right now is the result of masterful work and artistic feeling. During this extensive reconstruction the house became part of a new era that brought a whole new style to the city. The architect Johann Christoph Kosche, who took care of this reconstruction, inserted an enormous amount of artistic feeling into the building in the style of the late Baroque and rococo styles. Notice the richly decorated stucco facade. These decorative elements, which are made of fine materials, are not just ordinary decoration. These are detailed shapes that tell the artistic sense of the time. If you look very close, you can see something in these decorative elements that could be called the handwriting of the architect himself. It's like the signature of a master who left his soul right on the walls of this house so that every visitor could perceive his art.

But this house was not just a beautiful building for housing or business. He also had a very important social function. Since the year seven hundred and sixty, there has been a post office. Imagine the constant activity, the hundreds of letters, messages and newspapers that were going through it at the time. The house became a central point of communication, a place where information spread throughout the area. This feature added another layer of importance and importance to the building for every citizen and every traveler who came to town.

Today Egermannův dům is no longer a postal service, but its role for the city of Kadaň is still as important and important. At present you will find a tourist information centre where you can learn all about the surroundings and other sights that stand in this beautiful city. It is also a place where the Karel Havlíček Gallery is based, which gives the building a new cultural dimension. The house became a bridge between history and the present, where old walls and historical details create space for new art and for people seeking information.

When you continue your tour of the city, stop and feel the atmosphere of this place. Egermannův dům is not just a static object, it is a living organism that has changed along with the city of Kadaň. Each layer of his architecture, every change of style from the original Gothic to the Baroque to today's use, is proof of the constant movement of time and human efforts for beauty and functionality.

I hope this brief insight into the past inspired you to explore again. Kadaň has many other hidden treasures waiting for you in every alley. I wish you a beautiful tour of history and enjoy every moment you spend in this wonderful city. Goodbye.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring: In the spring there is a pleasant freshness in Kadani and the surrounding green begins to bloom again. The light is delicate and less sharp at this time, which is ideal for observing tiny elements of the construction. I recommend wearing layered clothes because the wounds can still be cold while the afternoon is already pleasantly warm. The rounds are rather quiet these months, so you will enjoy the memory in a more comfortable way.

Summer: Summer months bring bright sun to the city and very long days that illuminate the house beautifully. The mood is alive and full of energy, but because of the high temperatures, it can get a little stuffy inside. The best thing to do is to come right after the opening so you can avoid the biggest crowds of visitors and avoid the worst heat. Dress easy and don't forget enough water.

Autumn: Autumn season offers wonderful golden colors and often foggy morning hours, which give the historic place a mysterious mood. The light is low and very interesting for taking pictures, especially in the afternoon. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes for walks and warmer top layer, because the air is getting much colder.

Winter: In winter the house is very cozy, especially if snow falls outside. The days are short, and the shadows start early, which creates a calm and serious mood. It is necessary to prepare for the frost and wear as warm as possible.
