Gloriet in Poděbrady is a classic sightseeing gazebo built on a terrace above the Elbe River, which boasts unique history and architectural value. This monument, located in the garden of the Evangelical rectory, is the only preserved building of its kind in Poděbrady and the wide surroundings. It is protected as a cultural monument due to its architectural and urban properties.

The gazebo was built in the first half of the 19th century, when Veronika Ulrychová, the wife of the master brewer Friedrich Ulhru, acquired part of the land of the former estate used to supply the castle after the Hussite wars. In 1818-1820, the gazebo was built as part of a garden with terraces and wine cellars which Fridrich Ulrych built for the pleasure of his wife Veronica. This romantic gesture reflects the time when nature and history were often idealized.

Architecturally, the glomeret is a two-storey building in a classical style with a regular eight-sided plan. The facade is decorated with moldings, champagne and arc windows. The upper floor is encapsulated with a flat and has a door leading to a small observation balcony with a forged lattice decorated with FWU initials. The roof is formed by an octave dome with a rudder, which carries a boulder with the year 1945. The lower floor contains a small room with a plastered brick vault and niche.

The ownership of the gloriet has undergone several changes. After the death of Fridrich Ultrik in 1832 the farm remained in the possession of his wife Veronica, who died in 1847. It was then taken over by their sons and daughters. Later, Thomas Mluh took over the yard, who committed suicide because of his debts. In 1875 the village of Podebrad Josef Jungle bought the estate and in 1901 it was taken over by the parish congregation of the Evangelical Church of Helvetian religion, which is still its owner.

Gloria's been through some key events. In 1965 he was declared a cultural monument, but already in 1968 it was found to be in such a bad condition that he threatened his demolition. Despite the lack of funding, the College managed to save him in the 1970s. In 2015, the overall static disruption was detected and the reconstruction funds that took place in the first stage from September to December 2017 were sought. This stage included the repair of the vault, the solution of the rainwater supply and the renovation of the facade.

Today, there is a gloriet in the parish garden next to a functionalist parish and church from the original Ulhryv residence. The gazebo is often accessible during various events such as the Night of Churches or the "GlorietFest" benefit festival held in 2017. Although the surroundings of the gazebo have been transformed and the Elbe River has been regulated, the gloriet remains a valuable monument that attracts visitors with its historical significance and architectural beauty.

Gloriet in Poděbrady is not only a monument to the past, but also a living space that reminds of the importance of protecting cultural heritage. Its history and architecture are a testament to the city's rich past and its population. For those who want to experience part of this history, visiting a gloriet is not only an opportunity to make a beautiful memory, but also an opportunity to appreciate the importance of protecting cultural monuments.

Welcome to the beautiful Podibrads. Right now, in this quiet and quiet moment, you are standing in a place that offers you a unique view of the surrounding landscape and at the same time immediately takes you to the depths of history. In front of your eyes, this elegant, classicist gazebo, called the gloriet, now stands. Look around you and feel that unique atmosphere. You are standing on a high terrace that is majestically floating right over the bank of the Elbe. Feel the fresh air that surrounds you, and the calm that exists here. This small but extremely important object is much more than just an ordinary building in the garden. He's a living witness to the ancient times who's now opening the door to this city's rich past.

In order to fully understand the importance of this place, we must go back deep into the past together. You might be surprised that this quiet and aesthetic corner of the garden has its roots in a much harsher and challenging time. Originally, this part of the land was part of a large estate, which played a very important role in the area. This farm did not only have an aesthetic function, but it was absolutely crucial to secure the needs of the local castle. After the years of the Hussite wars, this area served to supply the castle, making it a strategically important point throughout the region. Imagine the activity at the time, the constant work and the seriousness that this space had for the survival and functioning of the castle and the entire city. But from a place that was firmly linked to hard work and ensuring basic needs, over time, with the arrival of calmer periods, it became a place for relaxation, beauty and human pleasure.

Now pay attention to the very form of this building, which stands right in front of you. Although the name of the particular architect who designed this gloriet is not in the historical records, its style is very clear and expresses a certain period of human spirit and aesthetic ideals. It's a classic gazebo. Feel the harmony, order and balance that manifests itself in its form. This style seeks peace and cleanliness of shapes, which perfectly matches its strategic location on the terrace above the river. It is the only such preserved object of its kind in the whole of Poděbrady and in their wide surroundings. This makes him not only an architectural gem, but also an extremely valuable urban element. It is a building that makes up the unique character of this part of the city and which carries within it an elegance that you will not find anywhere else. Feel how this building floats over the landscape and how great the view of the surroundings is.

Let us now look together at people whose destinies are inherent in this place. This gazebo was not only built for the beauty of architecture itself, but had a deeper, very personal meaning. Between a thousand and eight hundred and eighteen to a thousand and eight hundred twenty, this space was part of a wider garden, which included terraces and a wine cellar. The whole was created for one particular, very human purpose - the pleasure and rest of Mrs Veronica Ulhre. Imagine her spending her free time here, enjoying the sight of the flowing Elbe and enjoying the peace in this beautiful garden. Next to it is the name Fridrich Ulhru, which reminds us of the family background and social world that existed at the time in Poděbrady. This space was designed as a place for joy, for private moments and for enjoying the beauty of life in the purest form.

You may now wonder how this fragile and beautiful object has lived to date. History wasn't always about joy, peace and pleasure. There were moments when this unique gazebo seemed to disappear from our eyes forever and remain a memory. We must return to the year one thousand nine hundred sixty-eight. At that time the state of this building was very bad and threatened to be completely removed. It was a real demolition threat that could erase this beauty from the Podebrad map and destroy this unique piece of history. Fortunately, something else has happened. This monument has been saved and thanks to that, it is you who can admire it today. It is a vivid reminder of how vital it is to protect our cultural heritage, even if it seems to be at risk. It's a story about survival and the value we have to acknowledge as a society all the time.

Now that you know the story of this place, its origin and its almost lost period, I suggest you stay in silence for a while and just watch. Feel the strange atmosphere where history, human destinies, and the constant movement of nature unite. Let yourself be inspired by what you see and continue walking through the garden or other ways of Poděbrad. You have many other secrets and beautiful looks waiting for you. Thank you for spending this moment with us at this unique gazebo. We wish you a beautiful rest of the day and a pleasant discovery of all the treasures this city offers you.
