Hodkov is located on the south-east of the Záslavice district of Kutná Hora in the Central Bohemian Region. It is a castle with an adjacent park which is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The area includes not only the castle building itself, but also a gate with a doorman's house, a border wall with its own gate and park. In addition, the remains of the former Court of Commerce were preserved in the premises, among which there is an excellent Baroque granary.

The origin and beginnings of the Hodkov Castle are not entirely clear. According to historian Tomáš Šimk, the castle on the northern edge of the old economic court was built by Otto von Wächter after buying the estate from the Royal Chamber in 1850. Another source - Memorial catalogue - suggests more complex genesis. According to the catalogue, the building's core dates back to the eighteenth century and comes from the Baroque. In the middle of the nineteenth century, only the southern wing was added to this historic core.

More marked changes to the castle came from the beginning of the twentieth century. The extensive reconstruction was carried out between 1912 and 1913 according to the design of architect F. Woretsche. Its initiator was Alfréd Šebek, whose castle belonged until 1945. In this reconstruction, a number of historical styles were applied, which gave the castle its present appearance - the translation element between the Baroque past and the modern taste of the time.

In the second half of the twentieth century, the fate of Hodkovs developed particularly. The chateau was taken over by the District National Committee in Kutna Hora, which adapted the building to its new purpose. He became the home of a children's home, thus losing his existing resignation function and gaining a social mission. Even so, the building remained part of a protected area, which retains both architectural integrity and landscape status in the landscape.

Hodkov thus represents an interesting case of Czech construction, which is rooted in the Baroque, but whose present form is the work of modern reconstruction. The visitor can observe here how the historical layers - from the Baroque core to the nineteenth century, to the richly ornaments from 1912-1913 - are composed into one organic whole. The castle is thus a testament to the long Czech traditions of ownership and transformation of the purpose of the buildings in our territory.
