Jezeřské arboretum Park
The very large English park Jezeřské arboretum lay between the castle Jezeří and the extinct village of Albrechtice in the district of Most in the Ústí Region. It was characterised by an extensive area and thousands of trees and shrubs that combined elements of the English and French garden style.
The park began to emerge at the end of the 17th century on the hill of Castle Hill and gradually spread towards Albrechtice. In 1823, a central ornamental garden of five hectares was built, which was surrounded by the park over the next 15 years on an area of fifty hectares. The arboretum thus consisted of two clearly different parts: the lower part with a natural character, lined with three ponds with old lime and oak following the adjacent field, and the central part in French style with hedges, swimming pools, greenhouses and electorate.
Thousands of trees and bushes - both domestic and non-indigenous - were planted according to the nature of the site. The most common species were oaks (summer and winter), beech, habr, forest pine and oatmeal, low blue, various types of lime, Canadian fir, spruce spiny silver, birch, ash, chestnut edible, platinum, acacia and magnolia. The park also included several botanical rarities of extraordinary age, such as Albrechtic oak - one of the most powerful oak trees in our territory, which grew on the edge of the arboretum.
In 1978, the mining company requested the abolition of the protection of the lower part of the arboretum. The 1980 Inventarization recorded nearly 5,000 trees worth of CZK 378 million on 33 hectares; the total value of the park was estimated at half a billion crowns. Although they hadn't cared for the park in years, the lower part was destroyed by mining in the 1980s. The top part was to be harvested in 1989, but it was spared thanks to the 1991 rescue campaign.
Long-term neglect has led to overgrown air strikes and the death of many indigenous trees. Today, the last remains of the arboretum are hardly visible along the road from Cernik to the castle. On 23 November 2022 the area of the preserved part of the arboretum was declared - together with the castle Jezeří - a national cultural monument. Jezeřské arboretum thus remains a reminder of an ambitious gardening enterprise with an incalculable historical and ecological value.

Architectural development
The park was built gradually from the end of the 17th century, combining natural English style with French elements in the central part. There were hedges, pools, greenhouses, aviaries and three ponds. After the attenuation of maintenance in the second half of the 20th century, the complex lost its original composition and grew in flight.
Historical events
In 1823 a central ornamental garden was built. In the 1980s, the lower part of the park was wound up for coal mining. In 1991, a successful campaign took place to save the remaining upper part of the arboretum.
Owners
The ownership of the arboretum is linked to the history of the castle Jezeří, which in the past was the property of various noble families. The exact data on ownership changes are not available, but it can be assumed that the park was part of the castle complex and its management was entrusted to the managers or owners of the castle. Over the years, ownership has probably changed, as has the fate of the arboretum itself.

The Jezeřské arboretum, formerly also known as the Eisenberg Park, was a very extensive English park located between the Jezeří Castle and the now-disappeared settlement of Albrechtice in the Mostecko region. It contained several thousand trees, many of which were of exotic origin or unusual age.
The park began to develop at the end of the seventeenth century on the slope of Zámecký vrch and gradually expanded toward Albrechtice. In the year eighteen twenty-three, a central ornamental garden covering five hectares was created. Over the next fifteen years, the entire park expanded to fifty hectares. It adjoined a game reserve and to a large extent had a natural character, which was emphasized by a trio of ponds lined with linden and oak trees. The central part, by contrast, was designed in the French style, with hedgerows, small pools, greenhouses, and aviaries.
Trees were planted both native and non-native, always according to the nature of the location. There were oaks, beeches including red-leaved varieties, linden trees, pines, larches, Canadian fir, silver blue spruce, Turkish hazel, horse chestnuts, plane trees, and magnolias.
The fate of the park was sealed by the neighboring brown coal mine. In the year nineteen seventy-eight, the mining company requested the removal of protection from the lower part of the park. An inventory then counted forty-nine hundred and ten trees on thirty-three hectares. Their value was estimated at more than three hundred and seventy-eight million crowns, with the entire park valued at half a billion. However, the historical and ecological value could not be calculated. In the nineteen-eighties, mining destroyed the lower part.
Some rare specimens were successfully saved. A three-hundred-year-old lilac, older than the beginning of lilac cultivation in our country, was excavated in nineteen eighty-four and transported to the castle park in Krásný Dvůr. A year later, old magnolias were also taken there. Much more demanding was the transplanting of a roughly one-hundred-year-old coast redwood, standing nineteen point one meters high and weighing fifteen tons. According to the information available at the time, no one in the world had ever attempted such a thing before. The actual transplanting began on March eleventh, nineteen eighty-seven and was complicated by frozen soil, roots of unequal length, and soft bark prone to damage. One of the possible new locations considered was the recreational area of Benedikt near Most.
The Albrechtický Oak, called the Albrechtický grandfather, one of the oldest and mightiest oaks in the country, was less fortunate. It was destroyed after repeated arson, allegedly because it was in the way of mining operations.
The upper part of the park was also supposed to be mined. It was saved only by a campaign in nineteen ninety-one. However, without care, it became overgrown with self-sown vegetation, and today the last remains are scarcely visible along the road from Černice to the castle. On November twenty-third, twenty twenty-two, the preserved part of the arboretum, together with Jezeří Castle, was declared a national cultural monument.
Tips for visitors
The best time to visit is spring or autumn when vegetation in the arboretum is most visible and the weather in the Krušné Mountains is more stable for field walks. Due to the poor state of the park, we recommend a visit in dry weather, when the roads are better viable. The place is available by car, park near the castle Jezeří; Always check public transport in the current connection search engine. Take your fixed shoes to the field, plenty of fluids and snacks, because there is no service in the arboretum itself. It is ideal for photographers to have soft light during the morning or late afternoon, when the remains of historical trees and melancholy atmosphere of the place stand out. In the surrounding area you can visit the castle Jezeří, explore the nature of the Erzgebirge Mountains or remember the history of the remains of the extinct village of Albrechtice. We recommend caution to families with children because of poor conditions of travel and terrain, so it is advisable to choose a stretcher rather than a pram.

For kids
Imagine going back to before there was no city or village. It was just a woodland landscape full of wild animals and plants. At that time, the first people who sought food and shelter in nature lived here.
It was like being on a big adventure trip! The first people had to learn how to survive in this inhospitable landscape and how to use nature's resources to survive them. They were real hunters and gatherers who knew every plant and every animal that lives here.

Seasonal recommendations
Spring brings the awakening of vegetation and the first flowers of rare trees. The atmosphere is full of hope, although a neglected state of travel can be problematic due to snow melting. I recommend waterproof shoes for mud and a visit in the morning when the air is the cleanest.
In the summer months, rich green and deep shade of old trees dominate, which provides a relief from heat. Expect more visitors in the main season, so come early in the morning to avoid clusters. Dress light, breathable clothes and do not forget enough fluids.
Autumn is a period of colorful leaves and fog that underscore the melancholy character of this abandoned place. The best thing to do is to hit the gold clock before sunset, when the light is softest. Due to moisture and fallen leaves, select fixed footwear with anti-slip sole.
Winter reveals the skeleton of the park and offers peace and quiet in the snowy landscape. The lighting is shady and cold, which highlights the timeliness and decay of the monument. It is necessary to have warm laminated clothing and to count on shorter daylight hours.
