The Church of the Holy Trinity is a one-ship building in the puristic neo-gothic style, which was established in the early twentieth century. Since 2004, the church has been protected as a cultural monument - both as a characteristic example of the neo-gothic architecture of its time, and as evidence of the activity of the important architect Arnošt Živný in the region on the border of Pilsen districts.

Mešno had a long history of church reaching into the 14th century. The oldest preserved mention of the parish church dates back to 1352, when Bohuslav of Švamberg exercised patronage law. In the following centuries the church belonged to various local flags. During the Hussite wars, the parish was orphaned without its own priest. Since 1550, Meshna has fallen to the Miroshov estate administered by the knight of Gryspek. After the post-white mountain confiscation of 1623, Miroshov's goods were sold to Adam Wroclaw of Mitrovice and the parish was linked to the burnt-up.

In the second half of the eighteenth century, the original Gothic church was fundamentally rebuilt. The Baroque reconstruction was completed in 1737 or 1738, the new rectory was built in 1710. The church became the center of the newly set parish including Mešno, Kakejcov, Kornatice, Nevid, Děkosice and part of Lipnice. In 1749 the church with the rectory went into the property of the St. Matthew's capital. In 1898 the Baroque building burned down and was demolished. The Capitula immediately built a new church.

The foundation stone of the new church was laid on the 15th of September 1901 by the sanctification of Bishop Franz Krásl. The construction was designed by architect Arnošt Živný (1841-1913), known as the director of the completion of the St. Vitus temple. On the ninth of November 1902 the finished church was consecrated by the Archbishop of Prague, Cardinal Lvo Skrubenski. The construction is a single boat with a rectangular plan and a presbytery in the east ended by three sides of the octagonal. The presbytery is sealed with a rib arch, the ship has a cassette wooden ceiling. The square tower on five floors is located on the west facade. The whole building is built from white bricks in a puristic neo-gothic style.

The interior deserves special attention. The church is decorated with three stained windows, which Jan Zacharias Quast painted in 1863. The windows were originally designed for the Imperial Chapel of St. Vitus Cathedral and depict the emperor Charles IV and his wife, Elisabeth Pomeranian. In 1901, windows from the St. Matthew's Cathedral were transferred to a newly built church in Meshen. The clock from Halcknecht has been on the tower since 1902. In 1989, they were inexpertly modified for electric propulsion and replaced in 1999 by new electric clocks from Moulis.

In 2015, the municipality of Mešno acquired the church into its property by transferring from the church property. Today, the church is a unique representation of the purist neo-gothic style of the early twentieth century, linked by the name of one of the most important Czech architects of his time.

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Mešno is a Roman Catholic church that has been a cultural monument since 2004. It is protected as an example of pure pseudo-style from the early twentieth century and also as evidence of the work of architect Arnošt Živný on the border between the Rokycany district and Plzeň-jih district.

A church already stood here in the fourteenth century. It was Gothic and its patrons were the local lords. The first mention of the parish church dates from 1352, when patronage rights were exercised by Bohuslav of Švamberka. Later, the lords of Hamberka are mentioned as patrons. During the Hussite wars, the church had no priest and fell under the Rožmitál parish. From 1550, Mešno belonged to the Mirošov estate of the knights of Gryspek. After the Battle of White Mountain, the estate was confiscated in 1623 and sold to Adam Vratislav of Mitrovice and the parish was joined with Spálené Poříčí.

In 1737 or 1738, the church underwent a fundamental Baroque reconstruction. Together with the rectory from 1710, it became the center of a new parish, which included Mešno, Kakejcov, Kornatice, Nevid, Příkosice and part of Lipnice. In 1749, the Prague Saint Vitus chapter purchased Mešno together with the church. In 1898, the Baroque church burned down and was demolished.

In its place, the chapter had a new church built. The cornerstone was blessed on fifteenth September 1901 by bishop František Krásl. The completed church was consecrated on ninth November 1902 by Prague's archbishop cardinal Lev Skrbenský. The project was prepared by Arnošt Živný, known as the director of the completion of the Saint Vitus cathedral. In 2015, the church passed from church ownership to the municipality.

The building is single-nave, made of white bricks, in a purist neo-Gothic style. A rectangular nave with a wooden coffered ceiling is followed on the east by a narrower presbytery with a ribbed vault. On the west rises a four-sided tower five storeys high. The church stands at the northwestern edge of the village on the site of the former cemetery. Of the boundary wall, only a piece remains on the south side, and in it a sandstone reconciliation cross, which is also a protected monument.

The most precious part of the furnishings are three stained glass windows. They were painted in 1863 by Jan Zachariáš Quast for the Imperial Chapel of Saint Vitus Cathedral. They depict Emperor Charles the Fourth and his wife Elisabeth of Pomerania. In 1901, they were removed from the cathedral and transported to the newly built church in Mešno.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit the Church of the Holy Trinity is during the morning hours when the sun is on the west side of the tower and illuminates its detailed Gothic elements. In the morning there are also fewer crowds, which allows a more peaceful tour of the interior. If you want to experience the church with a special light effect, visit it at sunset when light penetrates the windows and creates interesting shadows on the walls.

Transport by public transport is also possible, but the current connection needs to be verified in the traffic search engine. It is recommended to come by foot from the centre of Meshna, where a stop is located, which is just minutes away from the monument.

When visiting, wear comfortable shoes because the church and its surroundings offer several stairs and uneven terrain. The interior is cold, so bring a light sweater or sweater. For convenience, you can also take a small laptop or mobile phone to record the interesting things that will happen to you during the tour.

Photography is allowed in the church, but it is appropriate to take care to respect other visitors. The best places for photos are the west tower in the morning light and presbytery with its octagonal ending. In the interior it is worth focusing on stained glass and baroque decoration, which are the most beautiful in the right lighting.

In the vicinity of the church in Měšna you can see Mirošov Chateau, located about five kilometres away. This Baroque chateau with a rich history associated with local knights and the Mitrovic family is a great choice for another tour. Another interesting thing is the church of St. Jacob the Greater in Mirošov, which is also Baroque and offers beautiful architecture and interior.

For families with children a visit to the Church of the Holy Trinity in Mošna is a great opportunity to learn about history and architecture. Children can look at the detailed decoration and explain what the construction looked like in the past. It is also possible to play in the surrounding fields or visit Mirošov Chateau where children often find interesting details and stories associated with its history.
