The Church of Saint Kunhuta in Kostelec is a historically significant religious structure located on a hill overlooking the Jihlava River. Originally constructed as a Romanesque church in the mid-13th century, it underwent Gothic modifications and was expanded with a classical addition to its nave at the beginning of the 19th century. The Church began as a Romanesque structure in the mid-13th century, featuring an oblong nave with a semi-circular apse. It replaced an earlier wooden chapel, reflecting the period's transition to more durable stone constructions. By the mid-15th century, Gothic influences led to significant modifications, including replacing the original apse with a larger polygonal chancel and adding a sacristy. The 17th century introduced barrel vaulting in the nave. A major renovation occurred in 1803 when architect Josef Dewez designed an expansion for 700 parishioners. This involved constructing a classical extension to the west, executed by Johann Zeißl and completed around 1805.

Architecturally, the Church of Saint Kunhuta blends Romanesque, Gothic, and Classical styles. The preserved Romanesque nave features an original entrance portal on its southern side, while the Gothic chancel boasts a five-sided design with latticed windows. The classical extension to the west includes a new main entrance and harmonizes with older structures through careful detailing. The church's facades are smooth, except for the western façade of the extension, which is adorned with pilasters and an attic. Inside, the chancel is topped with a star-ribbed vault, while both the nave and sacristy have barrel vaults with lunettes. A notable feature is the musical loft on the west side of the classical extension, supported by cross-vaulting.

Throughout its history, the Church has been maintained as an active place of worship and a cultural monument. Its interior houses significant artifacts such as a main altar from the late 18th century and a stone baptismal font dating back to 1623. Additionally, a bell in the tower, dated 1546, adds historical depth to the site. Near the southern portal, early 17th-century gravestones are embedded in the ground, while a relocated stone calvary from 1752 stands near the chancel.

Today, the Church of Saint Kunhuta remains an accessible and cherished landmark. It is situated on the western edge of Kostelec, surrounded by a cemetery enclosed with a wall, with the Jihlava River enhancing its scenic setting.
