The parish church of St. Peter and Paul in the Upper Strait serves as a centre of the parish including in addition to the Upper Strait also the village of Kojetice, Mikulovice and Vyčapy. The church is located approximately eight kilometres southwest of Třebíče and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Traditionally, it's part of the cemetery. The parish also includes two filial chapels: the Chapel of St. Wenceslas in Kojetics and the Chapel of Saint Cyril and Methodius in Prizes.

The building has a rich building history. Its oldest part - Romanesque core - was created in the 13th century. Later, the church was modified in a Gothic style. At the beginning of the 16th century there was another important adjustment: a four-sided tower was added to the church. In the same year 1509 a bell was installed in the tower, which is still there today. In the 18th and 19th centuries further reconstruction of the building took place.

The second half of the 20th century brought more damage to the church. In the 1970s, important internal elements - altar, pulpit and side altars - were removed. Moreover, the interior was inappropriately modified with concrete, which was the soil of the floor. Over time, however, a path to repair has been found. In 2005, the old altar was partially restored when its original statue of St. Methodius was found in Austria. The biggest restoration took place in 2013 when a complex reconstruction took place: the facade was repaired, the clock clock dial was restored and the interior was repainted.

It is an architecturally oriented building with a polygonal conclusion of the priestry. The four-sided tower is located on the south side of the church. Four half-rounded windows are visible on the side side. The tower has a rectangular entrance on the ground floor in the niche. The character of the tower changes upwards: the lower part to the first floor is tilted, while the second floor has rectangular shape with windows. The upper floor with bell tower is equipped with windows and closed with a ledge.

The church is in good shape today thanks to recent renovation. It represents an interesting example of the connection of different styles of Czech sacral architecture - from medieval romance to goth. Visitors interested in the Czech architectural history and characteristics of the region around Třebíče will find a remarkable witness to the long-term development.

The Church of Saint Peter and Paul in Horní Újezd is the parish church of the Horní Újezd parish near Třebíč. The village is located approximately eight kilometers southwest of Třebíč. The church is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and stands next to a cemetery.

The parish includes, in addition to Horní Újezd, the villages of Kojetice, Mikulovice, and Výčapy. Besides the parish church, the parish has two more branch chapels. In Kojetice there is the chapel of Saint Václav, and in Výčapy there is the chapel of Saint Cyril and Methodius.

The oldest part of the church is Romanesque and dates from the thirteenth century. Later the building was modified in the Gothic style. At the beginning of the sixteenth century a tower was added to it. In fifteen hundred and nine a bell was hung in it, and that bell hangs in the tower to this day. Further reconstructions came in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The church went through difficult times in the nineteen seventies. At that time the main altar was destroyed, as were the pulpit and side altars, and the floor was covered with concrete. A partial restoration of the old altar took place in two thousand five. The impetus was an original statue of Saint Methodius, which was found in Austria. In two thousand thirteen the church underwent a complete reconstruction. The facade was restored, the clock face was repaired, and the interior received a new coat of paint.

The church is single-naved and oriented, meaning that the choir faces east. The choir is concluded by a many-sided apse. On the side of the nave there are four windows arched in a semicircle.

On the southern side stands a four-sided tower. In its ground floor there is a rectangular entrance in a niche. As it rises to the first floor, the tower tapers. The second floor is rectangular and has windows. The highest floor with the bell chamber is also pierced by windows and is surrounded by a cornice.

The best time to visit the church of St. Peter and Paul is during the morning hours after opening when the interior is pleasant light and fewer visitors. The church is easily accessible by car because Horní Újezd lies on well-available communication. The current connection and transport options can be found in the transport search engine.

When visiting take on comfortable clothes and shoes as the church and its surroundings are often visited even in bad weather. The interior is cold, so bring a light sweater or sweater. If you are planning a longer stay, you can also take a small bag of water and refreshments because there are no shops around the church.

Photography is allowed in the church, but it is necessary to respect sensitive areas and do not touch walls or equipment. The best places for photography are the main ship with polygonal priesthood and a tower with Baroque superstructure. Natural light is ideal for quality images during morning or afternoon hours. In the interior it is advisable to use the tripod for longer exposure times.

It was like a game where heroes wait for another story. And that was the beginning of another chapter in the history of our church. The church was built around 1300 and soon became the heart of the village. People used to come here for prayers, weddings and funerals.

Seasonal recommendations

In the spring nature awakens around the church and the surrounding landscape gets fresh green color. The lighting is delicate and pleasant during this period, which greatly highlights the architecture of the building. We recommend wearing layered clothes because the weather in mountain areas Highlands can be variable. The best is to visit the place in the morning when the air is purest and the visitors are minimal.

The summer months bring intense sunshine to the Upper Escape and long days that allow for full walks. The atmosphere is alive and the surrounding vegetation is in full bloom. Due to the increased number of people in the main summer season, it is advisable to arrive early in the morning to enjoy peace. Remember light summer clothes and sun protection, especially if you plan to stay out longer.

Autumn season is characterized by golden shades of leaves and morning fog, which give the memory a magical, melancholy ring. The light is low at this time and very photogenic. For a comfortable visit, it is necessary to wear firmer shoes and warmer clothing because moisture and cold can be felt. The ideal time for a visit is afternoon hours, when the colors of the landscape most excel.

In winter, the church appears in a quiet, snowy environment, which is very peaceful and respectful. A short day requires careful planning of visits in order to be able to see the memory in daylight. It is necessary to prepare for the frost and choose very warm clothes and quality shoes. In advent time, the atmosphere can be particularly spiritual, but you can count on possible accessibility restrictions due to adverse weather.
