The Church of Saint Simon and Jude in Bystřice is a historically significant Gothic structure originally built around 1352. Located in the village of Bystřice within the Benešov District of Středočeský kraj, this church stands out for its architectural evolution from its initial Gothic design to Baroque renovations completed in 1666. The church's historical importance is further underscored by its listing as a cultural monument since 1958.

The origins of the Church of Saint Simon and Jude are closely tied to the early 15th century, during which Bohemia was part of the Holy Roman Empire under Luxembourg rule. This period saw significant Gothic architectural developments across Europe, influenced by both religious and secular powers. The church's first documented mention dates back to 1352, suggesting its probable founding around this time. It is believed that the local nobility, specifically the lords of Dubé, played a role in its establishment, as indicated by their coat of arms found within the church.

Architecturally, the church began as a single-nave Gothic structure but underwent significant changes over the centuries. In 1666, it was extensively renovated and expanded into a Baroque style under the patronage of Josef Priam z Rovoratu. This renovation included the addition of a nave and other stylistic elements that transformed its original appearance. Further modifications occurred in 1899 when Vincenc Daňk z Esse contributed three stained glass windows, enhancing the church's artistic features. The building is characterized by an oblong single-nave design with a three-sided closed presbytery and a bell tower featuring pilasters at the corners.

Throughout its history, the church has experienced several dramatic events that have shaped its current form. In 1645, Swedish forces plundered and burned Bystřice during their retreat after the Battle of Jankov, causing severe damage to the church. Despite this destruction, it was restored in 1666 with Baroque renovations funded by Josef Priam z Rovoratu. Another significant event occurred in 1813 when a fire damaged the church's roof and bell tower, although miraculously only one of its five bells was destroyed.

The church houses several notable artistic elements, including a neo-Gothic main altar and a mosaic of Christ as the Good Shepherd by Antonín Klouda on its façade. Inside, it features rococo-style chandeliers under the gallery and two significant bells: one from 1553 with an inscription honoring Simon and Jude, and another from the 15th century with an unreadable Gothic inscription. The side altars contain statues of Saints Peter and Paul, believed to have been relocated from another church due to their larger size.

Today, the Church of Saint Simon and Jude remains a vital part of Bystřice's cultural heritage. It is currently maintained by ThLic. Antoni Kośmidek, who serves as both the administrator and parish priest. Regular masses are held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 5 PM, with Sunday services starting at 8:30 AM. The church was last renovated in 2009, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
