Kvítkův dvůr is a historical monument located approximately one kilometre west of Český Krumlov in the village Latrán. This former economic court is known for its rococo architecture, which dates back to 1750. Kvítkův dvůr is one of the outer protection zone of the city monument reservation Český Krumlov and attracts attention with its rich history and artistic rendition.

The history of this place dates back to the Middle Ages, when it was originally known as Piedík's Court. Founded before 1347, it served to supply Krumlov Castle with agricultural products. In Hussite war conflicts in 1422, the court was robbed, reflecting a turbulent historical period. Later it became a court and probably went through reconstruction behind the regency of Jakub Krčín in the sixties of the 16th century.

Architecturally Kvítkův dvůr is the result of a rococo reconstruction that took place after 1750. At that time she became owner of Marie Terezie ze Schwarzenberku and according to Josef Fortini's project the eastern wing was modified as a castle. The frescoes, which decorate the hall and cabinet of the Princess Marie Theresa, are the work of painter František Jakub Prokyš from 1757. These frescoes represent various scenes from rural life and give the court a unique artistic character.

Marie Terezie ze Schwarzenberku not only influenced architecture, but also connected the courtyard with the stromorage with the Czech Krumlov castle garden. In 1950, Kvítkův dvůr took over state goods and in 1980 wall paintings were restored, which shows a sustained interest in preserving this cultural heritage.

The key event in the history of the Flower Court is the robbery during Hussite war conflicts in 1422 and the subsequent artistic rendering of fresco by František Jakub Prokyš in 1757. These events reflect both the historical and cultural importance of this place.

Today Kvítkův dvůr is open to the public and offers visitors the opportunity to explore its historical and artistic wealth. When visiting, they can enjoy a view of the red quadrupled ground object with white cracks, frescoes and other historical elements such as windows, doors and vaults. Kvítkův dvůr is not only a monument to architecture, but also a witness to the rich history of the region.

This monument is an important cultural element that deserves attention both for its historical context and for its artistic value. Visiting the Quítkova Court is not only a way to the past, but also an opportunity to appreciate the rich heritage of Český Krumlov and its surroundings.

Welcome, distinguished visitors. Please stop for a moment, take a breath and feel the calm of this place. You are standing right in front of the Flower Court, a monument that carries layers of many centuries of history. Now, if you look ahead of yourself, you will see a structure that at first glance looks harmonious and elegant, but its origin was much more practical and more stringent. This space, which we admire today for its beauty, was once the heart of economic activity to ensure the survival and prosperity of Krumlov Castle. You are located approximately one kilometre west of the centre of Český Krumlov, in the area which is now part of the outer protection zone of the city conservation. It's where the world of noble elegance meets the hard work of farms.

Let us now return together in time, deep into the Middle Ages, to see how long this court has traveled. A year ago, a thousand three hundred forty-seven years ago, the estate was established here, which was then called Piedík's court. Imagine the landscape at that time, where this court served as a key point for supplying the castle with food and material. It was not a residential villa, but a functional space full of stalls, warehouses and working people. But history isn't always kind. If we move to a thousand and four hundred and twenty-two, we're in a period of Hussite war conflicts. It was this year that the court was robbed. You can only imagine the chaos, fear and destruction that passed through here at that time. The economic buildings that were so important to the city became the target of the attack, and the court had to be restored.

But time passed and a new era came with it. Between a thousand and five hundred sixty and a thousand and five hundred sixty-nine, there was another significant change. It is assumed that, at the time of the regency of James Krčín, the court was probably rebuilt. At that time, access to economic buildings began to change, not only functions, but also certain order and representativeness. Nevertheless, the Court remained primarily a place of work.

Now please focus on what you see in front of you today. What dominates the look of the Flower Court today is the result of a much later and very ambitious transformation. After a thousand seven hundred and fifty, the court was subjected to a rococo reconstruction. Rococo is a style that has brought ease, playfulness and softness to architecture. Notice the overall impression of the building. It is no longer a simple economic court, but a building with a hint of aristocratic luxury. The very important figure of this era was the architect Josef Fortini, who helped turn this space into something much more noble.

Please look towards the east wing. This is where the most interesting change occurred when this part was adapted to a small castle. Imagine the contrast that must have been perceived at the time. On the one hand, the still functioning economic court and on the other hand a fine, rococo castle for relaxation and representation. This transformation shows how the needs of the nobles changed in the eighteenth century and how the emphasis on aesthetics began to be placed on places that were originally intended only for work.

There are also significant personalities associated with this time. One of them was Marie Terezie ze Schwarzenberku, which influence the surroundings of Krumlov was indelible. Her presence and taste left a trail throughout the region, including this court. But architecture wasn't the only thing to be decorated. In the year one thousand seven hundred fifty-seven came to the place painter František Jakub Prokyš. His job was to breathe life into buildings using colors and paintings. He created beautiful frescoes here, i.e. wall paintings, which were to please the eye and decorate the interior. These paintings are a silent witness to the time when art entered economic space. In order to admire these treasures even today, in the year one thousand and nine hundred and eighty, a meticulous restaurant of these historical wall paintings was carried out, thanks to which they were preserved for future generations.

Now I want to invite you to one brief consideration, which is essentially the most interesting thing in this place. Think about the incredible transformation Kvítkův dvůr has experienced. He began as a simple Piedík court in the deep Middle Ages, survived the horrors of Hussite wars, served as a workplace for the supply of the castle and eventually turned into a rococo work of art with his own little castle and frescoes. It's a fascinating story about how functions turn into beauty. It is paradoxical that the place that was supposed to be used to store grain and breed animals ended up as a place with fine paintings and architectural details that could be at the heart of any European city.

This building reminds us that history is not only about great battles and kings, but also about how the life of ordinary people changed and how the perception of space changed. Kvítkův dvůr is a bridge between the practical world of agriculture and the dream world of rococo nobility.

Your short trip to the history of the Flower Court is now slowly coming to an end. I suggest you now walk quietly around the building, see its shapes, and try to imagine what sounds sounded like in different centuries. From the screams of the people during the Hussite robbery, to the morning rush of the economic workers, to the silent footsteps of the nobles in the rococo dress, walking through the east wing.

Take a look around, see the atmosphere of this quiet corner west of Krumlov and be inspired by how time can turn an ordinary yard into a jewel of architecture. Thank you for your attention and I wish you a pleasant continuation in discovering the beauty of our region. When you are ready, you can move on and explore other hidden corners of Latrán and its surroundings. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit the Flower Court is in the spring or autumn period when vegetation is full of blood and sunlight contributes to beautiful photographs. This time of year also offers lighter weather compared to winter or summer temperatures.

When visiting, bring a suitable suit according to weather and shoes for walking on uneven terrain. Also remember the sunglasses so that direct light doesn't surprise you during photography.

Photographs of the Flower Court offer many possibilities thanks to its architectural beauty. The best light is usually in the early morning or evening when the sun is not directly above your head and shading is ideal for detailed shots.

In the vicinity of Kvítkova court there is České Krumlov, which can be visited during the visit. The city offers historical architecture and is ideal for walking on the streets with children's playground, which is a great entertainment program for families.
