Měšťanský dům čp. 65 is a renaissance monument protected building in Purcner Street in Moravian Budejovice in Třebíčsko. This corner building from the 16th century represents a valuable proof of urban architecture in the historical heart of the city. It is particularly remarkable with its original atics floor.

The building was created in the 16th century, during the flowering of Renaissance architecture in Czech cities. This expansion in the European context has affected humanism and the development of trade. In the urban environment, this was shown to be representative of the settlements and richer decoration of facades. However, more detailed written reports were not kept on the particular builders or first owners of the house.

The construction is designed as a one-storey corner house on a rectangular plan with a saddle roof. The facade oriented to Smetana Street breaks the Lizard Frames; on the ground floor there are two window axes. The windows are right-angled and set in shambles. The shield wall is asymmetrically connected to the passage with a segmental end, covered by a counter roof. The Attic Floor, also divided by two window axes, carries a low-volume shield.

The house passed a significant transformation in the 1980s during adaptation. The original shingles roof was replaced by metal cover and the original windows were replaced with plastic. The main interference in the appearance of the object was the overlay of the original Renaissance letter sgraffiti on the atician floor with a new smooth plaster, which is still visible on the house today.

The building is located near the former southern city gate and historical meat shop. It is separated from them by a modern annex from the 20th century with the gate of the neighboring house no. 66. The house is currently part of the historical core of Moravian Budejovice.

This building is a testament to the construction development of the city and a reminder of the Renaissance tradition in the region. The visit to Purcner Street offers the opportunity to explore this historical architecture in the context of the urban monument building.

Welcome to Moravian Budejovice, a city full of history and beauty! You're standing in front of one of the most interesting townhouses in the village. House No. 65 on Purcner Street is a real jewel telling us the story of the past.

Let's go into history. The city of Moravské Budějovice was founded around 1500 and this corner building began to be our place. In the mid-sixteenth century, namely around 1550, the house was built in the Renaissance style. This architectural style then spread across the continent and our ancestors chose it for their homes.

Look up, what do you see? The house features a rectangular plan and a saddle roof. The facade is oriented towards Smetana Street and its Lizzy Frames supply architecture with something special. What you're probably most interested in is the attics floor of the house. Even though it was covered with a new plaster and its original Renaissance sgraffiti is no longer visible, you can still feel its spirit.

In the 1980s, the house was adapted. The original shingles roof was replaced by a metal cover and the windows were replaced with modern plastic. These changes have contributed to the preservation of the building, although they have stolen our original form.

Although particular architects and historical figures associated with this house remain unknown, its existence is a testament to our city's rich past. Every stone piece has a story, and every Lizard frame carries traces of the lives that once took place here.

The interesting thing is that despite modern modifications, the house has retained its significance. It's a testament to urban architecture, and every change in it helps us understand how our community evolved.

Allow me to invite you to further explore the Moravian Budejovice. There are many other historical monuments waiting for your visit. Whether you look up at architectural elements or hear stories of the past, you will always find something new and fascinating.

Thank you for your attention, and I hope he feels at home. Now notice the surrounding buildings and get carried away by the history of our beautiful village!

Tips for visitors

I recommend a tour of the house to plan for the morning hours, when the sun pleasantly illuminates the corners and facades, allowing the Renaissance architectural details to stand out. You can easily reach Moravian Budejovice by car or public transport, and you can easily verify the current connection in online search engines. Take with you comfortable shoes to walk through the historical core and the camera, because the best pictures will be taken directly from Purcner Street, where the overall layout of the building will stand out. In the vicinity is located the entire historical core of the city, which offers an authentic atmosphere of the Třebíč district, ideal for a quiet walk. I recommend families with children to join the tour with exploring the history of the city as part of a simple walk through the centre where the streets are safe and clear.
