It is a district court with jurisdiction only for the territory of the Statutory City of Pilsen, which decides as a court of first instance in all criminal and civil matters, with the exception of specialised agendas.

Okresní soud Plzeň-město was created in connection with regional and regional reform. Until then, only one District Court in Pilsen worked in Pilsen, whose jurisdiction in addition to the city of Pilsen also applied to the surrounding municipalities. However, only a few closest, since other separate district courts were also active in the territory of the then established counties of Pilsen-South and Pilsen-North.

During the bombing of Pilsen in December 1944, the building was hit and badly damaged in the southwest wing. In the years 1958-1997 there was a Plzeň observatory, which had a planetarium in the former chapel.

The Court building is a three-storey Neo-Renaissance building with high half roofs, located on Railway Street. Its ground plan is the letter H and is protected as a real-estate cultural monument since 1992.

Welcome to Pilsen. You're standing in front of one of the most important building units in this part of town, in a place that carries a serious and dignified touch. In front of your eyes is the building of the Pilsen District Court. Feel the presence of this building dominating the surrounding space. It's a three-storey building that immediately captures anyone passing by with its size and architecture. Now look up and pay attention to her roofs. They have a very specific and high shape of the dome, which gives the whole an unmistakable and noble character. This building is not just a wall and a roof, it is a living witness to the many events that shaped our city and the lives of the people who lived and lived here.

To fully understand why this building looks what it looks like, we need to go back deep into the past together. Let's look at its origins. Imagine the end of the 19th century. It is 1887, and it is this important year that this building was built. But at that time there was no trial as we know it today. This building had a completely different role in the life of the people of Pilsen. Originally there were no rights and laws, but education. This whole building was built as a general and urban school. Imagine those corridors that were once full of children, teachers and students. The place where the fate of people in legal disputes is decided today was once a place where the future of young generations was formed through learning and knowledge. This transition from school to court is a fascinating example of how the needs of society change and how the premises in our city adapt to new times.

Now pay attention to the architecture itself, which you are now observing. This whole building is built in a neo-Renaissance style. This style was not chosen by accident. At that time, it was believed that such shapes and such order express stability, strength and dignity. Notice how the building is divided into three floors, which gives it a feeling of firmness and firmness. If you could see this building from a height now, as if you were a bird flying over the city, you would see a very interesting thing. Its ground plan is the shape of the letter H. This modification of the space was very practical and allowed it to move better in the building and light into all parts. Even today, with the seat of the court, this architecture still resembles the original idea of order and structure.

But the history of this place wasn't always about peace, learning or science. We must remember a much darker period. In 1944, this building was hit during the bombing. Imagine the horror and destruction that affected Pilsen at that time. This building had to bear traces of war and face a great danger. Yet it still stands here. It's a symbol of our city's resilience. Although it was affected, it remained a fixed point in the landscape and was once again ready to serve people in new roles after the war unrest.

And then came an era that might be most interesting to anyone who loves the secrets of the universe and science. After the war, specifically in 1958, there was a Plzeň observatory in these areas. It is absolutely unusual and fascinating that a building that served as a school and later as a trial became a home for scientists and for people who observed the stars. Imagine those quiet nights when people in these rooms, which are now hosting legal processes, watched the movement of planets and distant worlds. The place that is now associated with strict laws and judicial decisions was once a window into the infinite universe. This observatory lived here for a very long time, until 1997, when it had to go to new spaces. This contrast between what is human, legal and earthly, and what is infinite and cosmic, is still felt in this building.

Today, this building is home to a county court with a very specific jurisdiction. It only decides on the territory of the statutory city of Pilsen. It's a first-degree place where a lot of important things are decided. It's criminal matters, civil disputes. The decisions that fall here have a huge impact on the lives of the people who live here. It's a place where different views of the truth and justice are sought. This role of the court was defined by a fundamental reform in 1960, which changed the way our country is divided into counties and counties. Since then, the judiciary has been performing its service for the citizens of Pilsen and maintaining the rule of law in our city.

Thanks to its rich history and importance, this building is now protected as a cultural monument. It's the real treasure of our city that we must protect for future generations. You're standing in front of a place that has traces of children learning here, traces of scientists looking to the stars, traces of war destruction, and traces of justice that rules here today. It's a fascinating combination of different ages and different human activities in one single matter.

I hope that this brief insight into the past has helped you to better perceive the surroundings in which you are currently moving. Every building in Pilsen has a story and this one is one of the most varied. Continue to explore our city and believe that every place you meet has its own secrets and its own history, waiting to be discovered. Thank you for your attention and I wish you a beautiful and inspiring walk along Pilsen.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring brings to Pilsen gradual warming and awakening greenery, which changes the appearance of the surrounding court building. The light is soft and scattered during this period, creating a calm atmosphere suitable for observing architectural details of the facade. Spring rains may be common, so it is advisable to carry a light waterproof jacket and comfortable shoes that can handle any mud. The morning clock is ideal for visiting, because avoid traffic tips and enjoy the silence before the start of the working day. Watch the trees awaken around the building and the first flowers bloom, which gives the place freshness and vitality. Summer offers the longest days and brightest light that reveals the texture of stone and the color of plaster building. Since it is an active office, the surrounding area is busy in the middle of the morning and full of people who come to meetings or to meetings leaving. I recommend visiting the site either early in the morning or late in the afternoon when traffic calms down and the sun shines at a lower angle, creating interesting shadows. Clothes should be light and airy, but keep in mind that in summer there may be sudden storms, so it is good to have an umbrella at hand. Green trees around the building provide natural shade and cooling, which increases the comfort of staying outside. Autumn brings cooler air and golden shades of leaves that contradict the stone structure of the building. The light is lower and warmer, which underlines the historical nature of the monument and creates a nostalgic atmosphere. It is important to dress in layers because temperatures vary significantly between day and night. The morning mist may be a common phenomenon that gives the scene a mystical touch, but it also reduces visibility, so be careful on the sidewalk. The afternoon clock is ideal because the sun lights the facade from the side and reveals reliefs and window frames. Watch the slippery leaves on the sidewalk and choose a shoe with a good heel for safe walking. Winter brings cold and often snow, which covers the surroundings and changes the appearance of the building into a white shade. Short days mean that light is limited and often grey, creating a dramatic contrast between the dark sky and the illuminated windows of the building. Clothes must be warm and laminated, including winter jackets, gloves and hats to make the outdoor stay comfortable. The morning freezing air is fresh and clean, which is ideal for walking, but watch the slippery surfaces on the sidewalk. The afternoon light is short but intense when the sun shines low above the horizon, creating long shadows and warming up the stone facade. The winter atmosphere is quiet and calm, which allows you to focus on architectural elements of the building without disturbing summer operation.
