Pomník Karoliny Světlé Memorial
Pomník Karoliny Světlé is a Art Nouveau monument located on Charles Square in Prague 2. It was created in 1910 as a tribute to the famous Czech writer and is the work of sculptor Gustav Zoula in cooperation with architect Josef Fanta.
Since 1903, women from the Czech Women's Production Association, which was established by Svìlá and where she worked as President, sought to create it. The writer lived in the no-longer-existing Renaissance house No. 550 / II on the corner of Charles Square and Ječná Street with a facade with three shields. The memorial was revealed on 29 May 1910 on the east side of the square in front of the church of St. Ignatius.
Sokl from smooth worked granite stands on a three-stage stone pedestal with side flips. On the front of the plinth there is a black marble plate with a gold name stating the name and life of the writer, followed by a text expressing gratitude for her merit. The main element is Gustav Zoula's bronze bust representing a portrait of an old writer with a plaid over her shoulders.
According to the records in the SAO registration card, large bronze vases with laurel decoration were originally placed on the sides of the plinth, which are likely to be stolen today. In the nearby area there is a commemorative plate on the Art Nouveau New Construction from 1911 marked at the Stone Table.
The memorial is today registered as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It stands in the middle of Charles Square and resembles an important figure of Czech literature, which makes it a historical point worthy of exploring during a walk through Prague building.
