Socha svatého Jana Nepomuckého (Krukanice) Statue

The statue of St. John Nepomucký in front of the castle in Krukanice (the cadastral territory of Pernarc, the district of Pilsen-North) is a Baroque sandstone work from the first half of the 18th century. This monument has since 1964 been protected as a cultural heritage and has attracted attention to its historical significance and artistic processing.

The creation of the work is related to the Baroque period, which affected Czech culture in the first half of the 18th century. This style manifested itself not only in architecture and painting, but also in sculpture, which is clear here. The figura of St. John Nepomuk was originally in the driveway to the castle belonging to the thermal monastery. This underlines its historical function within the former environment.

The design is typical of the Baroque, which is confirmed by a complex polygonal plinth with a graduated sarcophagus base and a profiled ledge. The saint in Canovnik's masonry is depicted in a mild contrast, which gives the character an impression of movement and life. The administration and ownership of the work were in the past linked to the thermal monastery, the owner of the crucible castle. Although specific names and events associated with the fate of the statue are not documented, its origin dates back to the first half of the 18th century. The list of Art Monuments of Bohemia was erroneously mentioned in 1801, which shows the original discrepancies in the knowledge of its origin.

A major milestone was the declaration of a statue for a cultural monument in 1964. This step confirms its historical and artistic value and ensures protection against possible damage or careless modifications.
