The Old Town Hall in Louny is a classical building built on the site of the original Renaissance Town Hall, which it replaced in 1826. Located on the east side of the Peace Square and its rear tract reaches Hilbert Street. Since 2010, it serves as the headquarters of the city library Louny. This monument is important not only with its architectural value, but also with a rich history that reflects the changes of the city and its administration.

The history of the town hall dates back to the 14th century when Václav IV authorised the Louny to build a new town hall in 1398. The original building was Renaissance and occupies a place in the contemporary classical state. In 1517, the fire destroyed the inner city, which led to damage to the original town hall. In 1550 the building collapsed and a new building was built, which was completed in 1557. This building is captured in several images from the first quarter of the 19th century.

In the early 1920s, the city hall was considered critical, leading local authorities to decide to build a new building according to the design of the regional architect Florián Müller. In 1824 the foundation stone was laid and the new building was consecrated by Dean Pankrác on 22 October 1826. The clock from the original town hall, which was located on the Prague Gate during the construction, was installed on the town hall lid.

After the opening of the new town hall, the town of Louňe became its owner. In 1849, the city transferred the building of the State, which established the district court here in 1850. This institution was located in the City Hall until 2007. Since then, the building is again owned by the city Louny and serves as a seat of the city library.

The Old Town Hall is characterized by a classical style. It has an L-shaped floor plan with attached tracks on Hilbert Street and a rear track. The building is single storey, the ground facade is fitted with shallow rustic. The floor ends with a triangle shield with a modern city emblem Louny and a lid with a central clock. The portal is semicircular, the passage is sealed with flaps and belts.

The building's interesting feature is the town hall cellar, where there was a torture chamber called Brožka. This detail reflects the historical functions of the City Hall as places of justice and power.

Today, the Old Town Hall in Louny is not only an architectural monument, but also a living centre of the cultural life of the city. The headquarters of the city library attracts visitors interested in the history and culture of Louns. Its rich history and architectural value make the city hall an important destination for anyone interested in the heritage of the city.

The Old Town Hall in Louny is a reminder of the past and the present symbol of cultural life. Its history and architecture are indicative of the changes the city has experienced over the centuries. Visit this monument offers an opportunity to explore the rich historical context and appreciate its importance to the local community.

Welcome to the Louny, at one of the most remarkable monuments of our town - Old Town Hall. You're standing in a place where history and architecture intersect into a fascinating whole.

Let's look up. You see the elegant facade of a building with classical elements. This town hall was built on the site of an earlier Renaissance building, which stood here until 1826. Now notice how her silhouettes are blending with the surrounding Peace Square, with the rear wing of the building reaching Hilbert Street.

Let's go into history. In 1826, this new town hall was consecrated by Dean Pankrac. The architect who had the task of designing and implementing this impressive building was Florián Müller. It's interesting to realize that this project wasn't the first attempt at the city hall in Louny. Already in 1398 Václav IV allowed the city to build a new town hall, which was a great honor and proof of their self-administration.

Now let's look at the key stories associated with this building. In 1550 the original town hall collapsed, which was subsequently restored and completed in 1557. The surprising detail is that the clock from the original building - a reminder of the past, which has been held up to this day, was placed on the new town hall lid.

The building was based in the district court until 2007. But it is now a place for the city library Louny, which brings new life and purpose to this historic building.

The interesting thing is that there was a small exhibition in the basement of the town hall. Ensure time to see it - it may contain interesting artifacts and information about the history of this place.

I suggest you look around and notice the atmosphere this building radiates. Her walls could have witnessed many important events.

I hope your visiting day in the Louny was full of discoveries and fun. If you have time, explore the surrounding Peace Square and other historical monuments of our city. Whenever you come back, we'll be glad to see you again!

Seasonal recommendations

Spring - In spring days, soft, scattered light is spread over the old town hall, highlighting historical stone details and the colour of freshly flowered trees in the surrounding park. It is recommended to visit the town hall early in the morning when there are fewer people in the city centre and you can enjoy the scent of flowers in peace. Dress in a light top to protect you from the occasional cooler breeze, and don't forget the comfortable shoes for walking along the stone paths.

Summer - In the summer months the sun throws bright and contrasting shadows on the city hall facade, underlining its architectural shapes. The surrounding gardens are in full bloom and provide a pleasant shade under the trees where you can relax. The best time to visit is late afternoon, when the sun's rays become slightly soft and the crowds in the city centre disperse. Light, breathable clothes, sunglasses and hat are recommended to keep the sun from overheating.

Autumn - Autumn light brings golden shades to the town hall, which contradict beautifully with red and orange leaves falling around. At this time, the atmosphere is calmer, because urban activities slow down. The ideal is to arrive in the late afternoon, when the sun boils to the horizon and creates warm tones on stone walls. Dress in layered clothes - sweater or light jacket - and have an umbrella at hand in case of sudden autumn rain.

Winter - In winter the town hall gains a majestic look under a white snow coat that highlights its solid lines and historic windows. The freezing morning offers clean, cool air and quiet quiet, which underlines the historic atmosphere. It is best to arrive during the morning when the sun occasionally appears and lights up the snowy surroundings. Dress warm - thick coat, scarf, gloves and tight shoes with anti-slip soles so that walking on snowy sidewalks does not cause trouble.
