Stará radnice v Poděbradech, located on Jiří Square in the historic heart of the city, is a cultural monument set in a rich architectural and historical tradition. Originally a Renaissance townhouse from the 16th century was rebuilt in the late Baroque style at the town hall, which served as an administrative centre from 1775 to 1930. Today it is the seat of the city library and its historical features attract the attention of visitors.

The creation of the old town hall in Poděbrady dates back to the 16th century when the Renaissance townhouse was built. In 1775, the city took over the building from the widow to Castle Purgrave Holfeld and had it altered in the late Baroque style under the supervision of the masonic master Matìj Kalousa. This transformation reflects the architectural transition that characterized the Czech landscape during this era.

The architecture of the Old Town Hall is a fascinating blend of Renaissance and Baroque elements. The original building was preserved by a passage with a valed arch with lunettes, while the other arched spaces on the ground floor are partly older. In 1814 the building was supplemented by a tower with an onion roof and clock, which gave its facade a characteristic character. Other modifications included the location of the commemorative records of František Turinský in 1882 and Jan Husa in 1915, as well as the names of citizens who died in the First World War in 1928.

The ownership of the old town hall has changed over the years. After taking over the city in 1775, the building was the centre of administration for centuries until 1930 when the town hall was moved to the former District House (New Town Hall). Since 1945 it has served as a seat of the local library, which has led to further adjustments for library use. The reconstruction was carried out in the years 2015- 2016 in order to open the Renaissance cellars and add a children's department.

Among the key events in the history of the old town hall are the birth of the literary František Turinski in 1792, which underlines its connection to the cultural life of the city. The memoirs dedicated to Turinsky and Jan Hus remind us of important personalities and events that have affected the history of Poděbrad.

Today, the old town hall is not only a cultural monument protected since 1987, but also a life centre of the city library. Its rich history and architectural importance make it an attractive destination for tourists and locals.
