Svinná Castle

Svinná, also known as New Castle, is a classical castle located in the village of Svinná near Hlohovic in the district of Rokycany, Plzeňský kraj. This historical object is remarkable in its architectural form and rich history, which dates back to the eighteenth century. The castle with the economic court is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

The castle was established at the end of the eighteenth century as part of the economic court. The original building was started in about the 1960s when it gradually joined the older estate of Liblin. The old castle in Svina served only for economic purposes and the new castle was built as the main mansion. At the end of the eighteenth century, a large reconstruction took place during which the old court expanded and the Baroque building of the New Castle became part of it.

Architecturally, Svinná is characterized by classical style. The castle building has a rectangular floor plan, with a classic facade divided by pilasters on the excellent side and 13 window axes. The center of the facade is highlighted by a three-axis risalite with sealed windows and a balcony, which adds distinctive character to the entire building. The monument protected area also includes economic buildings such as three stables, a perpendicular to a garage with a residential attic, a carriage room converted into a barn and a granary.

The history of ownership of Svina is rich in change. In 1801 she inherited Svinnou Sidonie z Ledebouru, who married Count Wurmbrande. After that he took over the Lebanese estate, including Svina son of Jan Vilém Wurmbrand, who sold them to the Nassav Duke of Adolf in 1857. Some of the Wurmbrands had the classical modifications made to the castle, but the reconstruction was completed. After the land reform in 1924, V. Smooth farmhouse bought the castle and after World War II the castle was taken over by a single agricultural cooperative which led to the decadence of the building.

Key events include unveiling in 2011 of the system of cellars and ventilation shafts near the granary. The basements were flooded with water after the well's mantle collapsed, indicating historical changes in the courtyard level, which is approximately 80 centimetres higher than the original courtyard.

Today, Svinná presents itself as a protected castle with rich history and architectural features. The reconstruction began in the early 21st century, allowing visitors to explore this interesting object. Svinná is worth visiting not only because of its history and architecture, but also as a reminder of the cultural wealth of the region.
